Question:
I need to weld a brake flange onto my spindle. What is the critical dimension I must hold for proper location of the flange? I am installing 10 electric brakes onto a 3500lb axle. Thank You

Welding a brake flange on a spindle is not something we recommend most people doing. Most spindles have these welded on at the factory with specialized jigs and higher precision welding equipment that what even experienced do-it-yourselfers have.
The flange needs to be welded on concentric and square. Square meaning the flange must be a true 90 degrees from the spindle and concentric meaning the gap around the spindle must be the same 360 degrees around. If not, the brakes will not wear evenly and will cause reduced braking performance. If not at the right depth the brakes will not be as effective and again, wear unevenly.
We usually recommend replacing the spindle with a new spindle that has the flange welded on from the factory. We do have a spindle for 3500 pound axles with a flange welded on, part # TRU74FR. You would need to make sure to have the proper drum and bearing kit.
