Question:
Hi There. Looking to upgrade my axles. I believe my rear axle is bent. I have excessive wear on my rear tire on the driver side. The trailer is a 2015 Keystone Cougar 33RBK with a GVWR 12445LB AND A GAWR each axle of 5200lb. Why dont they put a bigger axles on these trailers. I want to go bigger.. Can I go up to 7000? or is 6000 my only option? I measured the axle and I get hub face 86.5, spring center 68.5, and the current axle diameter is 3, End Spindle to Spindle 92.5. Im also upgrading the suspension to the road master comfort, and the Moyride cross braces for the front and back shackles. Can you help me pick the correct parts. Etrailer brand is fine. Thank you.. Rene G.

Hello Rene, thanks for reaching out. It is pretty typical for RV manufacturers to use axles that are not rated for the full GVWR. They say this is because 10%-15% of the camper weight is on the hitch instead of the axles. They will put the bare minimum axle on there to save on costs. Very typical in the RV industry these days sadly.
It is possible to use a higher rated axle. For the 86-1/2" axles we have a 6,000 lb option. We offer it fully loaded with brakes and 6-lug hubs as part # e73SR. The spring seats on this axle are pre-welded at 71-1/2" so you will need to take a few loose spring seats # TRSS300 and have them welded on at 68.5".
The Comfort Ride kit to go with this axle would be part # RM-2460-2570, or part # RM-2460 if you want just the shocks.
Then using three of the MORryde X-Factor Crossmembers # MR33WR is recommended for maximum support.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Hit the reply button below and I will get back to you.

Jessie! Great response! Very helpful. Tell me, those spring seats need to be on top for my RV. Any issues doing that? I suspect these axles are straight? Thanks Rene
