Why Does Module Need to Get Moved to Install Hitch on a 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT
Updated 04/29/2015 | Published 04/28/2015 >
Question:
I received my hitch yesterday and ran into a problem. On Step 2, Remove nut using 12mm socket... I was unable to move that module after removing the nut. So I loosened the second nut and tried to lower the module the module appears to be spot welded in place. Question - am I removing the correct nut? It is 12mm, in a vertical position, directly in front of the module. Looking at the instruction sheet, Im removing the nut on the bracket directly in front of the module as depicted in the left photo, under step #2. Question - What is the purpose of expanding the hole on the module bracket? Question - Is the module bracket the only hole that needs to be expanded? Question - I do not have access to vehicle ramps. Can I install by lifting the frame patially with standard jacks on the two rear lift points?

I spoke to my contact at Curt and he said that the reason you remove the nut of the module and enlarge the hole is so that it can be moved out of the way to allow the hitch part # C11400 to fit.
I attached a picture that points out the correct nut that you would need to remove to allow the module to be moved so that you can access the hole to enlarge it. You should note that you won't be removing the module. Just loosening the nut so that you can move it out of the way.
This is the only hole that needs to be enlarged.
You can use a jack and jack stands to lift the rear of your vehicle so that you can work on it. Please be sure to use jack stands as well as your jack.
