If your 2001 Jeep Cherokee had the factory 7-Way wiring the Brake Control Wiring Adapter, # 3020-P, would be the correct harness. If your Jeep did not come with a factory 7-Way you could still try it and in the event it doesn't work all you would need to do is cut off the end that plugs into the vehicle and hardwire the wires to the vehicle wiring by function.
On the harness the white wire is ground, black is 12 volt power in, blue is output to the trailer brakes and red is input from the brake switch.
The best option for a 2001 Grand Cherokee without a factory 7-Way is to use 4- and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation.
The 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee without the factory tow package/7-Way trailer connector might have the plug under the dash from the factory. But if it is there it most likely is not fully functional.
And if there is or was no factory 7-Way at the back of the Jeep then the blue brake output wire from the factory plug is terminated somewhere in the factory wiring harness. Since the wire terminates in an unknown location the best option is to do a complete hardwire if the vehicle did not come with a factory 7-Way.
