Question:

Can I flat tow a 2015 Chevy 2500 HD 4WD truck? As I read the manual, it says yes but the dealer says no. I'm not going to buy it until I can figure this out.

It all depends on how the truck is equipped. For a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4 you can flat tow it only if it has a 2-speed transfer case that has a Neutral and four-wheel drive (4 down arrow) setting. I would go to the dealer and flip to that page of the manual and perhaps they have the exact same truck that fits that description (if the one you are looking at does not).

To flat tow the truck you would need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For base plates you can use Blue Ox base plates # BLU22QR. For a compatible tow bar there are several options depending on the gross vehicle weight.

The Alpha, # BX7380, is rated for 6,500 pounds and includes safety cables. The Avail, # BX7420, is rated for 10,000 pounds and also includes safety cables.

For lighting you have a couple of options. If you will not be towing the truck often I recommend a simple magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. If you will be towing it often then a better solution is a diode kit, # RM-154. It also appears that the battery will have to be disconnected to flat tow the truck. Please research GM Technical Service Bulletin 13-00-89-007 for info on disconnecting the battery.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the best to set up and use is the SMI Stay-IN-Pay DUO proportional system # SM99251. It will apply the truck brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. Once it is installed and set up you will not have to touch it again.
