When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Excellent product. This was almost an exact replacement for the original one that was on my boat trailer. I had the boat out about once a week this summer and the actuator worked perfectly. Braking was smooth and it locks down easily on the hitch ball. I highly recommend this actuator. 702842

Direct Bolt on, better than welding. Surge Brake Line connected just fine. Bled Brakes. Test drive was successful. What more could you ask for. I chose the hand tightening knob over the Lever because it was more assuring to me that it was tight on the ball and the locking mechanism has never failed. I have used Titan surge actuators for 40 years. I am using this actuator on a 4,000 lbs. boat and trailer. On my way to the lake! 552824

Ask the Experts about this Titan Brake Actuator

  • Replacement for Atwood Surge Brake Actuator 82541
It sounds like you have free backing braking assemblies on your trailer so a lockout at the trailer coupler is not needed. In order to replace the Atwood Surge Brake Actuator 82541, I recommend using the Titan Leverlock Brake Actuator part # T43397007K although the Brake Actuator with Manual Lockout part # T4500600 would work as well. The Leverlock is more cost effective and has an easier to use latching mechanism in my opinion. The mounting bolt holes on the Leverlock are 3" apart...

I have attached an install video to this page for you to check out that you can use as a guide for installing the Titan Model 60 actuator part # T43397007K that you referenced. The video shows a very similar Demco coupler part # 8605001 but the couplers install in basically the exact same way.

  • Recommended Replacement Coupler for Atwood 83000 Surge Brake Actuator Coupler
The Atwood 83000 was a 8,000 lb drum brake actuator for a 2 inch hitch ball that has been discontinued. For a replacement I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Drum - Zinc - 2" Ball - 8,000 lbs # DM8669112. The only other option for that 8,000 lb capacity is a channel mount like the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator - Drum - Zinc - 8" Adjustable Channel Down - 8,000 lbs # DM8759131 which will allow you to use a coupler like the Demco Trailer Coupler - Adjustable Channel...

My contact at Fulton confirmed that the A50 series is now obsolete and they don't make replacement parts. For a replacement, I recomemend the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - Multi-Fit Ball - Bolt On - 7K # T43397007K with lockout # T4748800. This surge brake actuator will help make your 2007 EZ Loader Trailer functional again. This has an emergency lockout cable as well.

  • Replacement Actuator for Atwood Actuator part # 82543
The closest option we have to replace your Atwood 82543 actuator is part # 8605001. However, it doesn't have the lockout like your Atwood does. For one with a lockout use # T43397007K and # T4748800 but it's an electric lockout. It wires into the reverse light circuit on your truck through the trailer connector. I've attached videos of both actuators for you to take a look at.

  • Titan Model 60 With Lockout for Drum Brakes
Titan offers a bolt-on Model 60, # T43397007K with lockout # T4748800 for trailers with drum brakes. It works with trailers that have a 3" wide channel tongue and a 7,000 lb. weight capacity. I've attached a link to our article on trailer couplers as a courtesy. I also recommend purchasing a coupler lock like # ML389DAT to secure trailer and boat when not hitched to your vehicle.

  • Replacing Atwood Weld on Actuator on Trailmaster Boat Trailer
Since your coupler is welded on there won't be a way to replace it without removing the welds and then welding a new one in it's place. Since the Atwood couplers were so unique there isn't a similar one that would easily replace it either or have internal parts that could swap like a master cylinder.
