Features to know about

Smooth Backing-Up: Electric Reverse Lockout

Backing up your trailer can be a hassle, especially if your brakes engage every time. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator comes equipped with an electric reverse lockout feature, allowing you to reverse without triggering the trailer's brakes. It works seamlessly when you shift into reverse, making backing up smooth and stress-free.

Corrosion's Worst Enemy: Zinc-Plated Protection

Don't let corrosion ruin your brake actuator. This Dexter actuator is zinc-plated, offering excellent corrosion resistance. It's designed to withstand harsh outdoor environments, ensuring a longer lifespan and reliable performance, whether you're braving salty marine air or winter roads.

Suppress Jerky Stops: Hydraulic Surge Activation

Say goodbye to jerky stops and starts. The hydraulic surge actuator system activates your trailer's brakes in synchronization with your tow vehicle's braking. As you decelerate, the actuator seamlessly engages your trailer's brakes, leading to a smoother and more controlled stop every time.

Versatile Coupling: Fits a Wide Array of Trailer Applications

Whether you're hauling a utility trailer, travel trailer, or boat, the 2-inch ball coupler and bolt-on design of the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 ensure it fits 3-inch wide trailer tongues with ease. It's engineered to accommodate a variety of applications, making it a versatile choice for all your towing needs.

Lift and Latch: Low-Profile Coupler Latch

Secure connections have never been easier with the low-profile coupler latch. This design ensures a secure latch that won't get in the way, giving you peace of mind that your trailer hitch is safely and properly engaged. Perfecting the coupling process one latch at a time.

  • Help With Installing Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator On Boat Trailer
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Actuator # DX56FR you have is designed to be mounted on the end of the trailer frame as seen in the image below. Based on how your actuator was mounted the Actuator # DX89FR would best install like your current actuator. If you choose to continue with the actuator you have you will need to slide it onto the frame as seen in the image I attached and drill for all 4 holes.

  • Option For Replacing Swing-Away Actuator On A 2005 Mastercraft Boat Trailer
We do have a potential solution for you. Unfortunately, the swing away actuators like the one on your 2005 Mastercraft trailer have been discontinued, so I am afraid there is no direct replacement, or anything that will fit inside the current swing away. At this point we would have to recommend replacing the tongue of the trailer entirely, all the way down to the swing away. For a replacement option I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX89FR. This has...

  • How Do I Hook Up the 2 Wires on My Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout?
Hello Mike, Your old brake actuator only had one wire because it grounded through the trailer frame, which was pretty common back in the day. Your new Dexter DX7.5L actuator # DX89FR has two wires coming off the electric lockout solenoid no worries, it’s super simple to hook up. The blue wire connects to your reverse light circuit (usually the center pin on a 7-way plug), and the white wire just needs to go to a good ground on your trailer frame. That way, when you shift into reverse,...

  • Difference Between DX99FR and DX89FR
Hey Dan! The only difference is that sleeve you referenced on the # DX89FR. The # DX99FR is actually part of the # DX89FR and acts as a replacement inner member. Are you asking because of the difference in cost? I'm not sure what our pricing model is thinking right now but I would get the # DX89FR and pull out the inner member to save some money if that is all you need.

  • Marine Grade Surge Brake Kit Recommendation for a 16' Boat Trailer
Hey Stephen, thanks for reaching out! I believe you have a 3,500 lb axle so I'm going to base my recommendations off of that, but it would be best if you verify this on your own. You can see the axle rating either on the tag near the tongue of your trailer or on the tag in the middle of the axle itself. We have some drum brakes with a dacromet finish, but there aren't any hub/drums with a marine coating so I recommend going with some disc brakes; specifically the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit...

  • Replacement For A Reliable ACT 7.5 KS Brake Actuator
At this time we do not carry a compatible inner member for your Reliable ACT 7.5 KS actuator so I recommend replacing it with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX89FR. This hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops and electric reverse lockout lets you back up without actuating trailer brakes.

  • Recommended Replacement For A UFP Model A-70 Brake Actuator
Hi Charles, While we don't currently offer the inner member that you're needing for the UFP A-70 we do offer a compatible replacement with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR. This is the entire actuator assembly along with the mounting sleeve. If you have an electric lockout out to back up without having to manually lockout the actuator then I recommend picking up the Solenoid Valve # T4748800 as well.

  • Marine Grade Brake Recommendation for a 5K Axle and 6 on 5-1/2" Bolt Pattern
Well first of all, Doug, you get a gold star for the information you provided. Thank you! We've got some drum brakes like the kit # AKFBBRK-7-D that have a Dacromet finish, but none of the hub/drum kits for a 5K axle have that kind of a finish so only like half of your brake system will be what we would consider marine grade. What I recommend doing is going with the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE28YR instead. Not only is the whole kit covered, but the Maxx coating is rated for over 1,000...

  • Can Brake Actuator for Trailer Drum Brakes be Used with Disc Brakes
Hey Thomas, the reason you can't use the Dexter DX7.5L with disc brakes is because drum and disc brakes require different pressure ratings. Disc can be as high as 1,600 psi whereas drum is more like 1,000. So the part # DX33FR is drum brake only but the disc brake compatible equivalent is the part # DX89FR which is the correct rating.

  • Replacement for TDE LP85 Surge Brake Actuator
Hi Chris; I believe the LP85 was integrated into the tongue of the trailer. Unfortunately, that means it won't be an easy swap to replace it since other actuators won't fit inside the trailer tongue and line up with the holes from your old actuator. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX93FR you looked at will work as a replacement as long as a 7,500 lb capacity is high enough for your trailer. This is designed for disc brakes which I believe you have since the LP85...

  • Comparing Dexter Surge Brake Actuators DX29FR And DX89FR
Hello Jarrod, thanks for reaching out. The main difference between the Dexter # DX29FR and # DX89FR is how they attach to the trailer tongue. Each will fit a 3" wide tongue. The # DX29FR is designed to bolt onto the end of the tongue, whereas the # DX89FR is intended to sit on top of the tongue. Both use the same 3" bolt spacing, you will just want to pick whichever one installs the same as your current actuator. I have included a few pictures with examples below. I hope this helps, and...

  • Can The Dexter DX7.5 A-60 Brake Actuator Replace A UFP A-75 Brake Actuator
Hey Mirko, The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX89FR can replace the UFP A-75 actuator. The square head on the coupler would give less clearance than the rounded coupler of the A-75 but it's such an insignificant difference that you shouldn't have any issues. The # DX89FR will come with an electric lockout to allow you to back up without having to purchase any additional components.

  • What Brake Actuator will Replace My Dexter Model LP75 Disc Brake Surge Actuator?
Hello Chris, Yes, it would be quite difficult to find a replacement master cylinder for your Dexter model LP75. The brake actuator was actually a Tie Down Engineering part that Dexter took over as Tie Down Engineering is no longer in business but from what I can tell is no longer made, sometimes you can find somewhere with some old stock. For a replacement I would go with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX29FR. It is rated at 7,500 pounds, electric reverse lockout lets you back...

  • Coupler Lock Recommendation For Dexter DX7 Coupler

This will allow you to lock the coupler to the ball. The picture below shows it installed on a similar Dexter surge brake coupler. If you are looking for a lock for while the trailer is in storage, I recommend the Blaylock EZ Lock Trailer Coupler Lock # BLTL-33. We have confirmed that this will fit on the...

Hey James, thanks for the information! To replace the inner member of your Dexter actuator we've got a couple of options depending on which one you actually have. The Model A60/A75/XR84 you have stamped on your is three different styles of brake actuators that work with disc or drum brakes. • Replacement Surge Brake Coupler Recommendation for a UFP A70
Hey Jim, The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator with Fill Cap # DX33FR will work as a replacement for your UFP A70 actuator if you have drum brakes. For disc brakes you're looking at part # DX89FR instead. The titles say "A-60" but these will work for both A-60 and A-70 actuators. Previously the A-"number" was for the weight capacity of the coupler; an A-60 was rated for 6K and an A-70 was rated for 7K. In the recent past Dexter consolidated everything to be rated for 7.5K so all of the...

If you have a 3" wide trailer tongue and use a 2" hitch ball, the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout item # DX89FR would be a great replacement option. • Replacement Coupler for Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator
Hi Sean; so you're looking for a standard coupler? There are different bolt patterns within the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 but I don't think any standard coupler will match. For example, the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 # DX89FR and # DX56FR are the same line but that housing has a different bolt pattern for each. Since it is a full actuator the bolt pattern/design needs to be different compared to a standard coupler like the # T4845000 you were looking at. At the very least I would need some measurements...

  • Switching An Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Set Up To Surge Brakes
Hi Scott! You can do either! The brake controller option would be the way I would go though as you wouldn't have to bleed the brakes (which is a pain in the butt) and it can be used with other trailers that have electric or electric over hydraulic brakes (plus it works better than surge brakes). For that, you will only need a few things, but I wanted to ask a few things first. Are you sure it's a 6-pin plug? They aren't used very often, but will still work. I included a picture showing...

  • Does The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout Have A Manual Lockout Option
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX89FR unfortunately doesn't have a manual lockout option so you wouldn't be able to reverse without activating the brakes on the trailer. To solve this issue you can either install 5-pole wiring on each tow vehicle to connect to the electric lockout or you can swap out the brakes on the trailer to free-backing brake assemblies. If you didn't hook up the electric lockout solenoid then you wouldn't be able to reverse with the trailer...
