Replacing TDE 70LP On Swing Away Tongue

Published 12/18/2025

Question:

I have a 2007 Ranger trailer. TDE swing tongue, and LP70 actuator I would like to replace it with Dexters a-60 actuator. As it is currently a TDE swing away tongue product, it is not compatible with DEXTERs A-60, so I understand that the swing away tongue needs to be replaced as well. Which swing away tongue should I buy? I currently have a picture of the trailers tongue, but its not attached here. And how do I know if my tongue is 4 inches or 5 inches?

Hi Jeong-Won; the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX89FR fits a 3" wide trailer tongue without a specific height requirement. To add a hinge back onto the tongue you simply have to measure the height.

If you have a 3" x 4" trailer tongue you can use the SwingKing # TD53FR (galvanized) or # TD33FR (black powder coat). If you have a 3" x 5" tongue then # TD93FR (galvanized) or # TD43FR (black). If that was the old integrated design I would expect to have to buy some stock steel to replace the portion of the tongue that had the actuator and housing.
