Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe we're doing a test fit of our Curt 20x48 Cargo Carrier. This part number is C18110. Now, this is designed for both inch and a quarter and two inch hitches and has a weight capacity of three hundred pounds. So the first thing we are going to do here is take a few measurements. We're going to start off with our ground clearance. It's going to be about twenty six and a half inches of clearance there. Now that's not only because we have such a high hitch, but we also have a slightly raised shank here which is going to raise that even higher than our vehicle.

Overall to our vehicle we're adding about twenty eight inches and our closest point looks like it's going to be on our raised shank here at about six and a half inches away. Now with our Tahoe we do have a single passenger side exhaust here, it comes straight down and towards the ground, and since our carrier is so high we shouldn't have to worry about carrying any heat sensitive materials in a specific region. It shouldn't cause an issue. Now, if we open up our hatch here. We're going to see we're going to have clearance to get that open entirely. We're not going to make any contact with our carrier, although we do have a pretty early break over point.

Now, that's going to be the point at which any cargo on your carrier may make contact with your hatch. So that's going to be about eleven and a half inches or so. So just make sure that you have all that moved out of the way so you can get that back hatch opened entirely. Now, I did mention that this works with inch and a quarter and two inch hitches. So, it comes with a sleeve here that you'll see already adapted on there. That just simply bolts in and this also comes with an anti-rattle bolt and clip which is going to keep a lot of the shake and play out of the carrier as you're heading down the road.

So, you'll have an overall smooth ride. So that's going to be our completed look at the Curt 20x48 Cargo Carrier, part number C18110 on our 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe.

I like It. I hauled 2 bug bales of hay on it with no problem. It rocks a little but it seems like it's alright. 572621

Cargo carrier #18110 installed on a 90 mazda miata. ROAD TRIP READY! Happy with the purchase! Thanks etrailers! 475998

This cargo carrier worked great. Used it to move a rototiller, 2 hour trip. No damage or deformation to the carrier despite the tiller being near the top of the weight limit. The hitch bolt held the carrier firmly in place. It doesn't come with the lights, I installed light kit Item # 52014. Just had to drill four small holes (I knew this light kit wasn't specifically designed for this carrier, just wanted something cheap). Works great on a Town Car, lots of ground clearance. I'm very happy with this product. 570243

Considering the price, the product quality was above average from what I've seen. It will serve me well to carry a commercial pop up canopy that won't fit in the car. The instruction were easy to read and follow. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a third item from etrailer. Thanks 433781

I purchased this product to use in the 1 1/4" trailer hitch on my 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The item was easy to assemble, is of high quality, and is exactly as described. Being able to adjust the carrier in and out on the bar allows the carrier to be placed with just enough clearance of the vehicle to provide stability and thus avoiding the leverage effect when used with heavier loads. I ordered this item under time constraints, and etrailer worked with me to make sure the item arrived as quickly as possible, and followed up and kept me updated on the order progress along the way. I just recommended etrailer to a friend of mine and I found out that he was already a satisfied etrailer customer. 107376

First of all etrailer service was speedy and delivery ahead of schedule. Absolutely would buy from them again. Packaging was flawless. Now to the product itself. As a disclaimer I have not used it with cargo on it yet. Assembly was easy and all pieces, nuts and bolts are included, with and adapter for 2" hitches. I decided on this product because the design with an sloped hitch connector allows for more ground clearance than other models. Now when I tried it on the 1 1/4 hitch, it wobbles, it fits somewhat loosely. Curt should made some sort of rubber washer/wedge to avoid this and not just require more strapping. For this I just giving this rack 3 stars. 529027

Perfect. Took some finessing to tighten down the bolts but I did it on my own. I used it to move about 250lbs worth of belongings in containers from NY to FL (Little over 1,300 Miles). 555433

I am so glad I ordered my cargo carrier from E-trailer.The package arrived on time and was exactly what I was looking for in a cargo carrier.I liked the easy to follow instructions as it only took 40 minutes to put together. This is my first order from E-trailer and I would not hesitate to order something again. The good service and quality products have given me peace of mind for my next order. Thanks E-trailer!! 317153

This is exactly what we needed to hold our cooler on camping trips. Is easy to install (note: can only use the threaded screw with the UHaul installed hitch we got) and easy to remove. Not too big to store (we get it in our 1-car garage, along with the car) in the winter. Like many folks, we were concerned about getting the rear hatch open on our Prius V and with the cooler mounted as far back as possible, we can! Would definitely buy again! 392396

Its continued to be a great add-on for our Prius V, allowing us to get the cooler out of the trunk to leave room for the dog.

Product came with clear directions to assemble. Seems to be of good quality. Was hoping it would be made in the USA (did not check) like the Curt hitch I bought, but it was not. Not the end of the world. Only reason I am taking it down a notch is the mesh metal in the center bends a bit, not much but with ~155 lbs. on it I can get it to bend. But I will never have more than ~250 on it so it will work. Good for the price. 516758

Quick delivery. Purchased for small receiver sizing. “Basket” is lighter than my Harbor Freight aluminum platform, hardware for this unit preferable. Added flat washers under all nuts, think they should have been provided for the off round holes on the cross braces. Hauled an exercise bike which weighed well under the 300 pound weight but was not balanced and noticed after unloading balance is important to the use of the basket. Hitch on vehicle was etrailer buy, believe it is also a Curt manufacture. If I had see this unit prior to purchase would have bought it. Project it to be reasonable value for the price. 586268

I just returned home from a beach trip with my new cargo carrier. Overall it performed as needed. Having installed this on my 2006 Toyota Corolla I am happy I purchased a carrier with a rise in the shaft (raises the platform approximately 3" above the hitch insert). The carrier lightly scraped the ground a couple of times when pulling out of steeper parking lots onto the main road. Assembly took about 45 minutes doing this alone. Make sure you follow the directions and don't tighten the bolts the entire way, but make sure you tighten them enough that the square part of the bolt head will not fall out of the square hole or you run the risk of not being able to properly seat the bolts as you begin tightening all of the other bolts. I was slightly disappointed by the hitch pin. This does not use a standard slip through hitch pin and a standard pin will not fit. It instead has a threaded pin (included) that you need a 19mm socket (or box wrench) to tighten. I was hoping to use my Master Lock locking hitch pin, but was unable to because it was too large to fit through the threaded part of the carrier. There is a hole at the end of the threaded hit pin for a cotter pin so you may be able to put a small luggage zipper type lock in there for added security. The other disadvantage to the need for a socket is you need to take one with you on your trip if you plan to remove the cargo carrier, which I did for daily driving during the week around town. So again, overall it performed as needed and I would recommend this to a friend, but would make sure I pointed out the hitch pin setup as I don't think most people would expect this. 145659

Its threaded so you dont have to watch your cargo bounce side to side and it makes for a quiter ride because the rack is on with the hitch. You can get a threaded hitch pin with lock too.

The carrier has worked very well and I use it regularly. I recently purchased a new vehicle with a 2 receiver so it was nice to be able to just use the included adapter and not have to buy a new carrier. I mentioned the hitch pin as a downside, but after use it really is not. I purchased a cheap luggage lock to minimize the chance of theft. I also picked up a really cheap 19mm wrench to keep in the car so taking the hitch pin in and out is no problem. I would definitely recommend this product. It has held up very well despite my frequent, rough use.

Began shopping for a cargo carrier with 3 things in mind (a 2 inch shank, folding and have rails). I got none of the above with this carrier, however after doing my homework and using some common sense what I thought I wanted and what I needed were pretty far apart. I got this carrier primarily for a 2012 Honda Pilot 2WD. After reading many reviews here is why I decided on this model. 1. At 48 inch width, it fits nicely between the tail lights and doesn't obscure visibility of them. 2. The 3.75 inch shank rise puts the platform about level with the rear bumper and well above the tailpipes where heat seems to be an issue for many reviewers, especially if using a cargo bag which I am. 3. The shank rise also increases ground clearance which is not as important on the Pilot but is on our 2000Toyota Sienna and 2002 Winnie RV. The platform also rides about bumper level on these rather than riding below it as would a straight shank carrier. I didn't measure the height but these are med to light duty vehicles so passenger and cargo weight is a BIG factor in ground clearance. 4. The 300 lb cargo capacity is more than enough for our vehicles as none of them have tongue wt cap. >250 lb. I'm not sure about pushing the 300 lb. carrier capacity but it does take an evenly distributed 200 lbs. pretty well. 5. Despite the threaded hitch pin, I wasn't thrilled with the 1.25 in. shank as I have a bike rack with the same hitch connection but after viewing the cargo carrier review video I realized I had been putting the nylon insert between the shank and the receiver which left a bit of movement in the connection (not to mention squashing the insert). I flipped it around, now with the shank against the hitch (metal to metal) this is really solid. Thanks etrailer!! A couple of the features I thought I wanted, foldability, didn't seem to get favorable reviews on the models in my price range and rails (with the cargo bag is not really necessary) I believe are available for this carrier, if not would be very easy handyman project. Overall, very happy with the product so far. Its well built and the cargo bag fits perfect. I will be adding some reflector tape for sure, maybe lights if necessary. The best way to get what you want is to know what you need. Glad I did the research! 268025

This cargo carrier is sturdy and works well on a Mazdaspeed 3. The rise and slight angle make it so clearance is not an issue. The carrier is very easy to put together. I did install the 8 bolts through the connecting plates in reverse of the instructions so cargo would not be scratched or torn. It adds so much cargo space for our growing family. The only drawbacks are a lack of license plate frame and reflectors which are easily added with very little cost. I used a Cruiser license mount plate with zip ties and Reese DOT approved reflectors. I don't plan to use the carrier at night but there are many license plate lights that can be added as well. I also purchased the Rola carrier bag for hauling luggage and other indoor items. 409245

This did great on a 5500 mile roadtrip and 150lbs of camping equipment. It held up well and the raised hitch made it nice for the steep inclines on trails so there was clearance. I did add amber reflectors on the side and red on the back from walmart for extra visibility. 738084

So to prevent Class II only accessories from being used in a Class I hitch they put that nub in the hitch and then only Class I hitch accessories have a cut out portion in the shank which...

  • Curt 18110 compared to 18140
First lets talk about a hitch for your 2007 Toyota Prius, I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 24808. The reason for this is that Curt recommends you use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 when you use a non-supported load on the hitch like a cargo carrier. Draw Tite doesn't have that requirement so I think you would be happier with the # 24808. Now the differences between the Curt Cargo Carriers part # C18110 and the # C18145 are pretty substantial. • Selecting 1-1/4-inch Hitch Cargo Carrier to Transport 200-lb Scooter
Before choosing a hitch-mount cargo carrier to transport your 200-lb scooter, you will want to confirm the tongue weight (TW) rating of the upper receiver on your motorhome's hitch. This upper receiver (and the motorhome itself) must be rated to handle the combined TW of the scooter itself plus the weight of the particular carrier you select. For example, the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 will fit into a 1-1/4-inch hitch receiver and it has a 300-lb cargo capacity, plenty for your 200-lb...

  • Light Kit and License Plate Bracket Recommendation for the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier
For the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 I recommend using the Light Kit # 20174 with 2 of the Mounting Bracket # BK70BB and the Optronics LED Trailer License Plate Light with Bracket # LPL56CB. You will need to connect the black wire from the license plate light to the brown wire of the wiring harness that comes with the light kit. You may also need an extension like part # 9653P to reach the 4-Way Flat connector on your vehicle. Please note that there isn't a light kit that is designed...

  • Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Recommendation for Rear of Casita Travel Trailer
The hitch mounted cargo carrier I recommend for use behind your Casita travel trailer is the Curt 20 x 48 Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4 Inch and 2 Inch Hitches # C18110. This cargo carrier offers a shank rise of 3-3/4 inches to help you maintain ground clearance behind the trailer. I recommend using a fixed cargo carrier, like the # C18110, over a tilting carrier at the back of your trailer. The solid shank of a fixed carrier is much better for use on a travel trailer due to the rougher ride...

  • How Much Does the Curt Trailer Hitch Mounted 20x48 Cargo Carrier Weigh by Itself
The Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18110 has a shipping weight of 42 pounds but the actual carrier weighs approximately 38 pounds. That would leave you with 162 pounds you could put on the carrier loaded on the trailer hitch on your 2013 Mazda 3. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

  • Why Won't Cargo Carrier Shank Fit Into Class I Trailer Hitch On 2019 Subaru Impreza
It sounds like you have a Class I Trailer Hitch like the Draw-Tite # DT24959 installed on your 2017 Subaru Impreza. Certain Class I trailer hitches like this one feature a tab inside the receiver that prevents higher class accessories from fitting properly. This was done by the manufacturer to prevent the trailer hitch and vehicle from being overloaded with higher class/heavier carriers or bike racks. Your existing Cargo Carrier is most likely a Class II or higher accessory, which is why...

  • Can I Use the Curt Cargo Carrier on a John Deere Gator?
Yes. The Curt 19" x 47" Cargo Carrier # C18110 will fit in the 1-1/4" hitch receiver on your John Deere TX Gator, but you'll need to verify the tongue weight capacity on that hitch when attached to your Gator to determine how much weight it will actually carry. On a standard vehicle with a Class I hitch receiver, the Curt # C18110 has a 300-lb capacity, so you'll want to consult your owner's manual to determine what the tongue weight capacity for a hitch on your Gator is capable of carrying.

  • Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier with Rise Recommendation for a 2002 Mazda Miata
Since there are no folding hitch mounted cargo carriers that will fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch like what you have on your 2002 Mazda Miata your best option would be to go with the Curt Carrier, part # C18110, as it has a rise of 3-3/4 inches and would work well for you. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Cargo Net Recommendation for Use with Curt Cargo Carrier C18110
For use with your Curt hitch-mount cargo carrier # C18110 I suggest their Cargo Net # C18200 which is sized to work well with this basket. Depending on the size and shape of your cargo items you might prefer a different net. For example, if you were to load several tall cartons you might prefer a larger net, but this is certainly up to you. Virtually any net will work with the carrier; the nature of your loaded cargo items may suggest using a different net, but that is entirely up to...

  • Replacement 1-1/4 to 2 Adapter Sleeve for a Curt Cargo Carrier
I do have an option for you but the 1-1/4" to 2" adapter sleeve that is included with the Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18110 is not available for purchase separately. I called my contact at Curt to confirm this. However, a 1-1/4" to 2" adapter sleeve is a fairly universal part so I do believe you would be able to make the Hitch Adapter part # 853-7489 work for you.

  • Recommended Hitch Cargo Carriers with Rise in Shank for Better Clearance
Curt 2-inch hitch cargo carrier # C18110 offers a 300-lb load capacity and a shank with 3-3/4-inches of rise. The side rails are 2-3/4-inches tall. This is a fixed carrier that does not fold up against the vehicle. Rola folding carrier # 59550 offers a 450-lb load rating and has taller side rails plus 4-1/2-inches of rise in the shank. The two linked articles on hitch cargo carriers will help you decide on your best option and show how to measure to confirm compatibility with your...
