Options For Securing Items In Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
Updated 03/12/2025 | Published 01/06/2017 >
Question:
I am looking at purchasing the C18110 cargo carrier to put on the back of my fifth wheel trailer. I am wondering if you have a suggestions for securing items on it to prevent theft. Seems like it would be fairly easy for someone to take items off of it even if it was strapped down. Thank you for your feedback.

Although nothing is completely theft-proof when placed in an open cargo carrier like part # C18110, you can take some measures to make it a lot tougher for thieves.
If the cargo can be placed in one container or bag like the etrailer Cargo Bag, part # e98990, that can deter would-be thieves from taking anything because it is tougher to get to.
Another option is to use some locking straps like part # RRRTD35L. These are 1-inch wide and 11-1/2 ft long and comes with locks and keys to secure cargo. They can also be used to wrap around the cargo bag I mentioned.

There are lockable metal cages for just this reason. I have also taken measurements of different metal dog kennels to lock down on the cargo hitch carrier. Good Luck
