Question:
I have a walker and probably will need a wheelchair in the near future. Im looking to put a trailer hitch on my 2018 Hyundai Ioniq along with some type of a rack that will accommodate the walker and/or the wheelchair. Is this something your company offers? An idea on pricing if these are available. Thank you.

Hi Dick,
I'm really sorry to hear that you're anticipating the need for a wheelchair soon. I can only imagine how challenging that must be.
For your 2020 Hyundai Ioniq, the best hitch option is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11486. It offers a 200-pound tongue weight, though I’d recommend checking your owner's manual as well to confirm what Hyundai advises for rear cargo capacity.
Here are two carrier options, depending on what you need:
- Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 – Steel, 19" x 47", fits both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, rated for 300 lbs. It weighs about 30 lbs, leaving you around 170 lbs for cargo.
- Erickson Aluminum Mobility/Cargo Carrier # EM34JV – Aluminum, 30-1/4" x 50", rated for 400 lbs. It weighs approximately 68 lbs, so you'd have about 132 lbs of usable cargo capacity. This one has an optional ramp, which can be really helpful but does raise the price.
I’d include current prices, but they tend to change often, we try to stay competitive with other companies.
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s going on that has you looking into a wheelchair setup? My mom is going through something similar, we jokingly call her the “bionic woman” with all her surgeries: knees, hips, spine (more than once), and now they're talking about her shoulder and neck. It feels never-ending at times. I truly wish I could take the pain away for folks like you and her.
