Published 08/29/2017

Question:

It is a 2013 and does not have a trailer hitch, We live in the country and some of the roads aren't real level. May need something that is a little higher.. The car itself doesn't have a lot of clearance.

The highest capacity trailer hitch for the 2013 Ford Fusion is the Curt hitch # C12091 which is rated for 350 pounds tongue weight. That means the combined weight of a cargo carrier and the power wheelchair cannot exceed 350 pounds. For a light carrier I recommend 20x48 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs Item # C18110 which weighs 30 pounds. It has a rise in the shank which will help with ground clearance. What I recommend is to attach some plywood to the top of this carrier to make it a flat surface. Then you can make your own ramps out of wood using ramp kit # 288-07400. Secure the chair to the carrier using some ratchet straps # IMF12636. For the trailer hitch Curt requires the use of stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch with anything other than a trailer. This is a good idea in general because it will help to stabilize the load and take some stress off of the hitch.
