Video Transcript for Valterra ABS Solvent Cement Review

Conner: Hey guys. Conner here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the ABS Weld-On Solvent. Now, the Valterra ABS Weld-On Solvent is going to be used so we can fuse together all of our sewer lines on our coach or motor home. Essentially, this differs from normal cement in that this is actually going to form a fusion weld with the ABS plastic. It's specifically designed for this exact purpose. Similar to what we might find for PVC pipes where it's actually cement, this is going to cause a chemical reaction with the plastic and form a nice tight and secure seal.

But please keep in mind, since we are dealing with chemicals here, we always want to make sure we have the proper protection such as safety gloves and our safety glasses.I'm going to show you how to use this, but if we could just take a quick look right here. You can see it's inaudible 00:00:47 of a slimy gooey substance. We're essentially going to show you how to use this. Let's start out with, we're just going to be coating the outer diameter of the pipes as well as the inner diameter of the fitting. That's going to take about three minutes for this to set up and then it will be safe to handle the fittings.

However, it is going to take a full 30 minutes to cure. We always want to make sure before we use this the lid is on nice and tight. We want to give it a good shake to make sure all the materials are mixed around. The Valterra ABS Weld-On Solvent has a shelf life of about three years. It comes in this nice convenient quarter size pint, and today we're going to be showing you how to use this when we install the waste valves on our motor home here.So what we're going to do here is open our can up.

Once we have it open, we're going to take our solvent here and we're essentially just going to try to get it around the outer diameter of the pipe, making sure not to make too much of a mess. Once we have a good coat of the solvent around the outside diameter of the pipe, we can go ahead and press on our first coupler here. And then we want to push that all the way back to make sure we get as much as a seal as possible with the pipe, and then we're going to let that dry for a few minutes and we can move on to the other side. Make sure when we're putting on our ABS sealant that we coat not only the outside diameter of the pipe, but also the inner diameter of the fitting as well. Now we're just going to continue on piecing everything back together. Now that we have everything in place, we're going to want to go ahead and give it some time to let everything seal and cure over time.

I would say around 20 or 30 minutes or so. And then we can go into the RV and pour some water down our sinks and our toilet so we can test everything out to make sure there's no leaks. Upon visual inspection here, we don't see any leaks. However, what you want to do is take a piece of cardboard, set it under the valves and make sure. Let it sit for about five to 10 minutes and make sure you don't see any leaks. That'll let us know that all the fittings in the pipes are secure. However, we do want to remove our bayonet cap here and make sure the valves are sealed as well. As you can see, we don't have any water here, so we know those have done their job. That's going to do it here today for the Valterra ABS Weld-On Solvent.

Parts were fine but would never place an order through them again because it took 4 weeks t get the parts.

by:

received everything I ordered promptly and in good condition. I have ordered from E-trailer several times and have never had a problem.

by:

Great value and lightning fast shipping.

by:

how do you hook you hook up your sewer hose to this part??? There is a piece of pipe adhered to the drain that blocks you from installing the sewer hose.

by:

Product was great

by:

Ready set GO! SETS fast and holds tight

by:

I does the job

by:

Worked great, like we had expected. No leaks.

by:

I had a little mishap this past winter and didn't do a very good job of winterizing my RV and ended up with busted grey water drain pipes. After checking at the local big-box hardware store (parts not available) and a well-known camping retailer ($$$$$) I logged onto etrailer and, "voila" ...there's what I need to do the repairs. After a short conversation with George J. to confirm they were the correct parts I placed my order and even with "economy shipping" my parts were here and installed in about a week without breaking the bank.
etrailer always seems to have the right product at the right price and very fast shipping!

by:

got the coreect items in my order. rec'd items as described. fast service and good communication on order progress.

by:

works the 1st time

by:

This is the cement (glue) you need to use if your sewer pipe on your RV is black and says 'ABS' on the pipe, to glue on new fittings. Works as it should, and on 3" fittings, it only gives you a couple of seconds to push on the fitting with a twist onto the plastic pipe. It will set fast on these hot days of summer so get ready and know just how your fittings need to be BEFORE you put the cement on them! And all will be well; just follow directions on cement container and know that it is going to set fast on a hot day.

by:

This worked great at rerouting pipe and making gray water bigger

by:

I had a broken lug on the black sewer line. Purchased a new adapter and abs cement to replace it. Cut through the old adapter in 3 places and broke it loose using a hammer and screw driver. Removal was straight forward and not as difficult as expected. The new part fit perfectly and the abs glue welded right on. No dripping black water!

by:

Best upgrade I have ever done to my cam per!!

by:

Everything as described, packed well in box. Will be used to connect kitchen grey water drain point to bathroom drain point. Needed as campground will only make one connection to drain trailer.

by:

Works great. Dried fast with very minimal odor

by:

I bought this to glue pipe to change the location of my grey water discharge to a more convenient and accessible location. It was shipped quickly and excellent quality. I'm always very happy with the products and service at etrailer.com!!

by:

Exactly what I ordered. The quality was amazing! Now all I have to do is install! Thank you for your inquiry!

by:

Works great. Despite the other part indicating you do not need this, we used it anyway to secure the gaskets on the black water valve. So far so good.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for.

by:

Product worked as advertised . another good product offered by etrailer. The only place to purchase items for your truck ,camper ,trailer or about anything else you need

by:

I needed to raise the sewer outlet on our camper, everything worked as planned and looks great.it also gave us about 5 in.more clearance from the ground. thanks.

by:

Easy to use and appears to have done It's job of gluing a new sewer hose connection to my fiver as the nubs had broken off and hose could not be secured! This is a great product!

by:

Everything is good. It just took a while to receive the parts ordered. 4 star

  • How to Fix Leaky Sewer Hose Connectors
There is always going to be some degree of tolerance for sewer fittings from and within different manufacturers. It will be best to use the same brands but it is not necessarily a rule. Most of the time, a leak occurs form the lack of a sealant like part # A05-0303 on threaded connections or a bad o-ring inside the spigot or bayonet fittings. The majority of our sewer connectors and adapters are from Camco and Valterra. We have found the two to work well together assuming the above is performed....

  • How Are Old RV Waste Valves Removed
You have to cut off the old valves when replacing them like with the Double RV Waste Valves - Sanitation Tee - Rotating # T18A since the solvent used to install the valves creates a permanent connection. For solvent to install the new valves we have the Valterra ABS Solvent Cement # A05-0303.

  • Can I Use PVC Cement with Valterra Waste Valves
The Double RV Waste Valve part # T80 is more than likely correct for your 2010 Casita Spirit Deluxe. In order to be sure you will just want to take a quick measurement of the black and grey water lines. The black water line should be 3" diameter and the grey water line should be 1-1/2"diameter as this is standard for RV's but a quick check would confirm this. The PVC cement you have cannot be used with the Double RV Waste Valve as it is made of ABS, not PVC. The Valterra ABS Solvent Cement...

  • How To Attach Fittings To The Valterra RV Water Tank
The Valterra RV Water Tank # R8042 being solvent weldable simply means that you can glue the fittings onto to the tank using the Valterra ABS Solvent Cement # A05-0303. To install a valve or hose on this tank you would simply need to use the existing opening or pop out a different one to fit your application and use the Solvent to glue it into place in the opening.

  • Valterra Double RV Waste Valve Inner Diameter Dimensions
For the Double RV Waste Valves - Sewer Wye - 3" Fixed Hub and 1-1/2" Rotating Hub # T38 the internal dimension of the black tank hub is 3.5" to allow for a 3" pipe to slide into it and the internal dimension of the gray water tank hub is 1-15/16" to allow for a 1-1/2" pipe to slide into. The bayonet end that has you would hook up a drain pipe to has a 3" inner diameter. To attach these hubs to their respective pipes you'll need some Valterra ABS Solvent Cement # A05-0303 as well.

  • Replacement 3 inch Waste Valve to Replace Bristol Waste Valve
Yes, the Valterra RV 3 inch Waste Valves, like part # T50, are designed to fit standard waste fittings. The part that I referenced is just the regular waste valve. If you are looking at a specific design, you can find a variety of designs on the linked product search page. You will want to make sure to use Solvent Cement, like part # A05-0303, for a complete and secure installation.

  • Replacement Double RV Waste Valve for Older Travel Trailer
The Valterra # T38 Double RV Waste Valve isn't travel trailer or valve brand specific. As long as the existing black water drain is 3 inches and the gray water drain is 1-1/2 inches in diameter, the Valterra # T38 would be compatible. The ABS solvent cement is available separately as part # A05-0303.

  • Can The Valterra Double Waste Valve Hub Replace Current Valves On A 2010 Coachmen Freedom Trailer
Yes, you could just simply swap out to the Double RV Waste Valves - Sewer Wye - 3" Fixed Hub and 1-1/2" Rotating Hub # T38. You will probably find it is put together with some ABS solvent cement # A05-0303 which will require you to cut the old pipes. I recommend keeping the cut as close to the valve connection as possible and then you won't have to add on additional pipes to add length.

  • Is Sealant Required When Installing Valterra Fixed Y Double Valve
You need to use a sealant like our Valterra ABS Solvent Cement # A05-0303 to seal the connections when installing the # T38. Without doing that you most likely would get leaks. You current setup will be glued too so it would require you to break it loose.

  • How to Remove Old Sewage Drain Assembly to Install Valterra Double RV Waste Valves
Yes, when replacing sewer parts that have been installed with ABS Solvent Cement like part # A05-0303 you will need to cut the pipe right where the old valve is installed so you can install the Valterra Waste Valves # TR38. If you think this will reduce your sewer pipe by too much then you may need to cut most of the old pipe off and add a new piece that is about the same current length. We don't carry any replacement pipe but you should be able to find some at your local hardware or home...

  • Is Glue Used to Install the Valterra Fixed Y Double Valve T38
You will need to use a glue to attach the part # T38. The part is ABS plastic, so you could use an ABS sealant or glue. The glue is not included though. Part number # 0160297 will seal plastic parts and would work well for you.

  • 3" Hub Fitting On Black Water Tank Valve
Yes, this will fit over a 3" line from your black water tank. You will not need anything between the black water line and the hub except for some Valtera # A05-0303 solvent cement. This assumes that this will put the outlet of your valves where that you need it. Otherwise you may need some PVC parts (nipple and coupler) to extend the location.

I do have an option for you but the Double RV Sanitary Tee part # T1013 is not offered with two 1-1/2" hubs. However, you can obtain a 2" to 1-1/2" ABS Reducer at your local home improvement store in order to make this sanitation tee work for you but we unfortunately do not offer this fitting at this time because the 2" fittings size is rather uncommon. The Valterra ABS Solvent Cement part # A05-0303 can then be used to attach everything once you get the reducer that you need.
