Removing and Installing Valterra Eccentric Tank Reducer # T1041-1

Updated 09/24/2024 | Published 07/10/2018

Question:

How do I remove the old one in order to install the new one? It looks like it uses glue to connect on to the tank. How do a break that glue to remove the old one. I do also see a hose clamp behind this part, but I dont know that is the only thing holding this on. I also see what looks like plumbers putty. Both the putty and the hose clamp look like theyre well behind this part. Will the glue just break out without breaking the tank? Ive attached a picture for reference.

The Valterra Eccentric Tank Reducer, part # T1041-1, is installed with cement. When you reinstall the new one use # A05-0303.

The cement is permanent so you're not going to be able to break it up. Instead you need to cut the pipes after removing the hose clamps. Then replace it with the new one and apply the new cement.

The same cement can be used on other plumbing parts as well.

I have the same problem and the same question and I'm confused by the answer given. Charles says we "need to cut the pipes after removing the hose clamps..." but that's the confusing part because I don't think the picture conveys to Charles where the metal clamp is at. On my rig, and where I'd like to install a replacement reduction valve, is right up against the gray tank. If I have to cut the cemented portion off, then I will literally be cutting flush to the gray tank. How am I supposed to replace that section of pipe if I cut it off? I have a plastic insert or round cut plastic piece clogging up my gray tank and the only way to get it out is to remove the reduction valve and then to replace the valve with a new one or replace the gray tank entirely. No the plastic piece cannot be grabbed and bent...it has depth and thickness to it that prevents it from being grabbed easily with pliers or anything like that.

@David For the average DIYer it's easiest to just cut it off and add the new connection on. It looks like you can potentially hit the connection with a lot of heat and try knocking it loose. I don't have any experience with this though so I recommend having a professional come and look into it as well.
