Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove some interior trim or carpeting to access the harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the wire with the fuse holder to your car battery and connect it to the positive terminal. Then insert the provided fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within the spare tire compartment of your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Bought for a 2005 Toyota Prius. It was very easy to install, and works great. No problems here, and would buy again.

by:

High quality product, quite easy to install. Lays out fairly easily and intuitive;y. Connections snap or screw in tight works well.

THIS HARNESS PLUGGED IN EASILY AND THE INSTRUCTION WERE EASY TO FOLLOW. IT WORKS GREAT, NO CUTTING OR SPLICING OF THE WIRES NEEDED. THANKS

by:
2010 Toyota Prius

... and here is my review of the harness for my 2010 Prius: quick to install, works as advertised, appears to be well-made. Yes...I might complain a bit about the price, but then I would appear petty. In view of the price of competitors, it's well worth it.

by:

Took about 1 hour to install but it was easy. It would have gone quicker but I was not in a hurry. Really like not having to cut into the wiring to make connections.

by:

ordered the wire kit with hitch got the free shipping, order came quick.

by:

Item came as describe and was very easy to install. Haven't hooked up to the trailer yet, but I am not expecting to have any problems. Good Deal all round!!

2008 Toyota Prius

I also posted this review for a receiver I bought at the same time.

Unbelievable response time. I ordered late one evening. Next morning, I had an email stating it was in stock, packed, and ready to ship that morning. I received it in two days! WOW!! Very responsive. After it was delivered, I received another email saying they seen it had been dropped off, and don't hesitate to ask if I had questions.

I installed both on a 2008 Prius. Main purpose is bike hauler. Very easy to install after watching the online videos. Piece of cake!

I would not hesitate to buy from these folks again.....oh wait!....I already did....the bike hauler!

Keep up the good work. YOU'RE DOING IT RIGHT!!!

Considering what the prius system requires, the installation wasn't bad. The directions were good and while it took a little time, it was easy. It is working great, no issues what so ever.

by:
2015 Toyota Prius

This looked complicated, but actual installation was a snap.It took under 15 minutes. The Prius makes accessibility to the wiring easy, and this kit was just right.

by:
2008 Toyota Prius

The package arrived quickly and installs with almost no work. I threaded the cables behind and popped the connectors together. There is a ground screw in the middle rear that I used so I did not have to drill any holes.
Nice product.

by:

I ordered this type because of a recommendation from a friend who works on trailers and said it's simple, fast, and you won't make a mistake. He was 100% correct. It was easy to understand and quick to install. I would recommend this if your looking for an easy right to the point installation.

Thanks
Dan.

This is my Prius with our 1947 Kenskill Teardrop. Thanks to eTrailer for the easy-to-use wiring harness and for enabling us to RV at 38 mpg!

by:

This is actually easier than indicted. There are access panels that can be removed. There is not a need for any kind of tool whatsoever. This installation is an absolute piece of cake.
Then, I really like the fact the trailer lights are isolated from the light circuits in the car. If something goes wrong with the trailer, the car lights are protected.
Darned expensive, but my time has a value.

by:
2010 Toyota Corolla

This works as advertised. With the quick connects the whole thing takes less than 10 minutes to install. It powers the lights on my trailer brightly and correctly. It does not require the rewiring that the factory Corolla kits does.

You need to mount the blackbox on the right near the 12v battery as the wires for the right tail lights are a bit short. You'll need a 10mm and 12mm socket to connect the power and ground leads.

The only improvements I can envision would be the integration of some diagnostic LED so you can quickly verify proper operation, and inclusion of a properly sized grommet for the wheel well drain hole. The printed instructions are hard to follow, but also mostly unnecessary as it only really fits one way.

Otherwise this kit it nearly perfect.

2015 Toyota Prius

Your pics were right on! It took about 15 to 20 minutes to hook up/install. Worked like a dream on my 1959 Elgin /JC Higgins tent trailer. 2008 Prius. Thanks again!

Toyota Prius

Seems a solid harness. Curt was fried because water got into the module (which sits underneath tail light that can leak). This harness has longer wires with better options to avoid that location and wires all come out at the bottom which is well sealed. I expect no issues even if taillight leaks again (design issue Prius 2010). Install was easy.

  • 2011 Toyota Prius Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Ball Mount Recommendations for Towing a Sailboat
Hey James, thanks for reaching out - I'd be more than happy to help you find the best parts for your 2011 Toyota Prius! I currently own a 2009 Prius so definitely get where you're coming from, and there are 2 main things you'll want to consider when choosing a hitch; ground clearance, and strength. The best hitch to address both of these concerns is the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7178 because it has a stronger tongue weight rating than the other options, and it has a...

  • Troubleshooting Hybrid Error Code After Trailer Wiring Install of 2010 Toyota Prius
The video you referenced shows the Tekonsha kit part # 118505 install on a 2010 Toyota Prius like yours which is basically the exact same install as the Curt part # C56147 that you have. If there's a Hybrid Error warning light coming on I would suspect the issue is related to the battery wire of the kit. Make sure it's attached to the positive terminal of the battery securely and no exposed wire on this circuit is making contact to anything metal. It's also possible the battery terminal...

  • Solutions for Towing a Trailer with a 4-way with a Tow Vehicle with a 7-Way Connector
I think I have a better solution for you. I would recommend you get an Adapter 7 Pole to 4 Pole # 47345. You would simply just plug this product into the 7-way on your new tow vehicle and you would have a functioning 4-way. This option is nice too because if at some point you do have a trailer with a 7-way connector on it you would still be able to tow it. If you do really want to cut off the 7-way and install a 4-way you could still do this. You would just need to wire by function. For...

  • Will Water Cause 2010 Prius Curt T-Connector Wiring to Smoke and Blow Fuse?
Yeah, that's not good, Lianne. You're definitely looking at a leak in the back somewhere and you'll want to get that fixed ASAP for multiple reasons, least of all the trailer wiring blowing fuses. The Curt T-Connector # C56147 doesn't have the absolute best converter box, but I haven't heard of smoke coming out of the box (it will usually just fail if something is wrong) so I'm thinking moisture got to the box. Step one is to get that leak fixed. If you aren't able to locate it on your...

  • Adding a Charge Line Circuit To a Trailer With a 4-Way/5-Way Flat Connector
I recommend moving away from the Adapter 4-Pole to 5-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 47515 and going with a Buyers Products Trailer Connector Adapter # 337TC1474P. The wiring and connectors used on the 4-way harness are not designed to be used with the 20amps of power you will putting on the connector. The 4-way/5-way connector cannot handle the additional strain and it will likely overheat with the amperage and risk causing an electrical fire. With the Buyers Products Trailer Connector...

Draw-Tite hitches # 24847 and # 24967 are both good choices for your 2010 Prius but if it were me I would choose # 24847. They share the same 2000-lb maximum towing capacity and both are easy no-drill installations. The only noteworthy difference between them is that model # 24967 will be slightly less noticeable on the car since its main cross tube is hidden behind the rear fascia. I believe I have a solution for you, but it will require you to install trailer wiring on your 2010 Toyota Prius. For trailer wiring you will want the Tow Ready wiring harness part # 118505.
