Can I Flat tow The 2024 Ford Edge?

Yes! Provided you meet one specific criteria. You may only flat tow your Ford Edge if it has a 2.7L Ecoboost engine. If your Edge has a 2.0L Ecoboost engine you cannot flat tow your vehicle. Each vehicle will be different than the next, so it's best to double or triple-check to be sure you're okay. The owner's manual doesn't give explicit instructions for flat towing in particular. It does however say that in order to flat tow, you have to follow the manual park release procedure, found elsewhere in the manual. It is worth noting that this procedure requires some manipulation of a tether underneath your steering wheel. So it may require some trial and error. Please be sure to follow these instructions carefully to prevent damage to your vehicle:
  • Apply the parking brake
  • Attach your vehicle to the tow bars of the towing vehicle
  • Remove the access cover located underneath the steering wheelWarning: Do not pull the tether yet
  • While sitting in the driver's seat, start your vehicle without pressing the brake pedal
  • Once your vehicle is running, press and hold the brake pedal
  • With the brake pedal held, pull the tether toward you and move it to the lower-right corner of the housing until the bead locks into the pocket. Make sure to continue to hold the brake pedal down throughout this and the next stepsPro tip: Take your time to make sure this is done correctly, each of these steps is very important if you want to avoid damage to your vehicle. A message will appear when your vehicle is out of P (Park), repeat this step until you receive the confirmation message
  • Release the parking brake
  • Turn the vehicle off
  • After all of the previous steps are completed, release the brake pedal
  • Open your hood, and disconnect the negative terminal (this is the black post) from your battery
You're all attached! The owner's manual suggests limiting your speed to 65 mph (105 km/h) in order to be as safe as possible. The setup seems like a lot, and it can be intimidating the first time, but it really does get easier the more you do it. Thankfully the process for removing it from this mode is a bit simpler.
  • Park your vehicle on an even and level surface
  • Reattach the negative battery terminal (remember this is the black post)
  • Take a seat in the driver's seat and apply the parking brake
  • Press and hold the brake pedal, and continue to do so for the next few steps
  • Pull the tether toward you, moving the bead out of the pocket and allowing the tether to return to its normal, stowed position
  • Start your vehicle and confirm that the display says P (Park)
  • If your vehicle display says P (Park), then shut off your vehicle and release the brake pedalWarning: If you have followed the steps until this point and your vehicle does not display P (Park), the owner's manual suggests contacting an authorized dealer for service
  • Re-install the access cover and remove the tow bars from your vehicle
Congratulations! You have successfully flat towed your 2024 Ford Edge (or at least you know how to). Now you're all ready to take it out on your adventures. Be safe and happy towing!
