Blue Ox SwayPro Offers Superior Sway Control
The SwayPro is designed to keep your trailer centered behind your vehicle as you tow, no matter what crosswinds or obstacles try to get in your way. To do this, the head on the system is built with a positive caster angle. You might've heard of caster in reference to your car; it's the same technology that vehicles use to stay centered on the road. When you turn a corner in your car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically returns to center. This is caster taking over. Well, the SwayPro functions much the same way. The positive caster angle that's built into this hitch works in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force that keeps your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle.
The trunnions inside the head assembly hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly hold your trailer in line.
At the other end of this weight distribution system, you'll find 2 more points of built-in sway control. Blue Ox's rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible, with the majority of the chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. This means that each chain is held more stable than they are in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed.
This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from swaying - all without the creaking, grinding, and popping noises you get with friction-style sway control setups. Moreover, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage anything.
The Blue Ox SwayPro's No-Hassle Setup
When it's time to install the system for the first time, you might be surprised at how easy it is to do. All in all, you can probably have it done within an hour - 2 at the most.
First, the head. With just the right amount of adjustment angle already preset, it's ready to go right out of the box! No need to fine-tune it with hard-to-access washers or a difficult-to-use thumbscrew! The only thing you'll need to adjust is the height of the head on the shank. After that, to get the trunnion bars installed, just insert them into the sockets, and lock them in place with the included pins and clips.
Quick Tip: If you upgrade to a new trailer in the future, and you end up needing a system for a different tongue weight, you can just swap out the SwayPro's spring bars without having to buy a whole new hitch.
Other weight distribution systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. To get the SwayPro ready to go, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Your tongue weight is the first thing you need to know when figuring out which weight distribution system you need. Most people think that if they get the highest-rated system possible, it'll be smooth sailing. But actually, this will create a rigid ride and a bouncing trailer. On the other hand, if the system isn't strong enough, it won't be able to distribute the weight properly, making it virtually useless.
Once you know your trailer's tongue weight, add it to the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Then just choose a weight distribution system rated for that combined tongue weight.

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Blue Ox SwayPro weight distribution system with sway control. This is going to help level out your trailer so that all its weight isn't pushing down on your hitch ball at the back of your vehicle, which oftentimes can cause your vehicle to kinda squat and the rear end, which can bring up your front end. Your headlights shine in at other people's eyes. Your steering becomes kinda light.
Your tires wear unevenly. So this is going to solve those problems. It's going to help distribute that weight across all the actuals of not only the trailer but the tow vehicle as well. So everything's gonna be riding nice and level. It's gonna give you a lot more control and comfort as you're going down the road.
It's also got the built-in sway control. So it's going to help minimize your trailer's sway. So if a big gust of wind comes along or a semi-truck passes you while you're on the road, it's gonna help try and keep your trailer in line. So really nice system here for you. The is going to be designed for your underslung couplers.
So as you can see on the screen there, the difference between an underslung and an overslung, and underslung coupler is gonna be at the bottom of your trailer's frame. So because there is that height difference between the two, you do want to make sure you're getting the right kit for you. So this is going to be for those people who have underslung couplers like that. If you have an overslung, this isn't gonna be the best option for you. It's gonna cause it to ride unevenly.
This does have a max weight capacity of 3,500 pounds. That's, of course, the weight of the trailer plus the load included. But the more important measurement is gonna be your tongue weight. This has an optimal tongue weight range from 150 pounds to 350 pounds. So you want to make sure that your tongue weight is gonna fall within that range, and that's just so that our system is going to function properly to evenly distribute that weight across your tow vehicle and your trailer. So this will slide into your two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver on your vehicle. You do want to make sure that your hitch is rated for use with weight distribution. Not all of them are, and obviously you don't want to overtax your hitch. So this will slide right in. They include your standard 5/8 inch pin and clip to hold it in place. The distance from our pinhole here up to our adjustment holes is right at nine inches. The distance from our pinhole up to our gusset here is gonna be about four inches. So again, make sure that's gonna work for your hitch, but it will work for almost all of them out there. So just a little bit of extra numbers throwing out there for you. Now, this is an adjustable shank. So you can see we could loosen these nuts here and move this head up these holes. So we have adjustability to make sure that our trailer's gonna be nice and level. So this is, we have it right now in the drop position. So the head is at its lowest possible point. We have it like this. We're gonna have a max drop from the top inside edge of our receiver tube to where our coupler's gonna a sit of only about two inches. So not a whole lot of drop, but we could flip the shank upside down from the way I have it now and use it in the rise position. And that's gonna give us a rise of eight inches. So if your trailer sits quite a bit higher than your hitch on your vehicle, that rise could be a very important factor for you. Very easy to switch that out. And these holes are spaced an inch and a quarter. So it gives you a lot of adjustability within that range between a two-inch drop and an eight-inch rise to get it just right for your trailer's height. So our head here is going to have this 2 5/16 inch hitch ball pre-installed. So that's one less thing that you're gonna have to worry about purchasing separately. It's also gonna be one less thing that you have to worry about torquing down. So it's gonna be nice having that included. And one thing that really sets the SwayPro apart from other weight distribution systems in my mind is that with all weight distribution systems, you are gonna need to have a little bit of a tilt in order for it to engage properly. With most systems, they use like a bolt and washer setup. So you're gonna have to kinda guess how many washers you need, put everything together, test it out. If it's not right, you'll have to take it apart, add more washers, or take more washers off. That can be a hassle. So with the SwayPro, they actually have that tilt built in. So it's gonna be a much easier setup for you. I really like that they've done that. Makes it a much, much easier application and use of the weight distribution system. So that required tilt is built in. You're not gonna need to adjust it at all. On the backside of our arm connections here, we do have these grease zerks that are going to make it very easy to maintain, get lubricant put in there so that everything's gonna work properly. Very easy to just hook up your grease gun there, squirt a little grease in. Our trunnion spring bars easily lock into place, into the head with these pins and clips, so very easy to take those out. Pull out the bars, if we're wanting to disassemble it. And then put them in, slide the pin right through, and then that's gonna ensure a nice secure connection for us. We do have trunnions in the head assembly that are designed to help hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. So that's part of our sway control system. It's gonna make sure that our trailer stays where we want it to. And then the spring bars are going to flex appropriately for a nice controlled, even ride. And this is where our lift and weight capacity are gonna come from. So these spring bars are where the tension is gonna ride. So as we set our trailer down, these are going to kinda flex, and that gives us the lift to ensure that our trailer is gonna be nice and level. These spring bars can be changed. They are interchangeable with other SwayPro bars. So very easy if you ever need to haul a different trailer, if you've got a different setup that you're wanting to use your weight distribution system with that has a higher tongue weight, you can switch out those bars. Instead of having to buy the whole system, you can just get new bars, and it'll be very easy to interchange those and apply it to a new system. And then our spring bars are going to be connected to our trailer with these unique rotating-latch lift brackets. So these are going to ensure that the chains are nice and tight and secure to help keep the spring bars from moving. Very quick and simple to use. Basically, all you have to do is raise up your tongue jack on your trailer, making sure that your weight distribution is attached to your towed vehicle. The first time, you'll probably have to do a little bit of guesswork and fine-tuning to see which chain link will work best for you. But after you've got that one figured out, just mark it, so the next time you can very easily know which chain you're wanting to hook up to. So once you have this bracket attached to your trailer, then you'll just put the chain in the appropriate link like so. They do include this wrench, and you can put in place there to give you a little more torque. And then you rotate that back until it clicks into place. So very, very easy to do. And then you can lower your trailer's jack, and that's going to put that pressure on your spring bars so that your trailer stays nice and level. One thing that's really nice about this chain system is that it is going to be lot quieter than, a lot more quiet than other weight distribution systems that use kind of a steel-on-steel bracket that's using that friction to cause the trailer to stay in line, which steel on steel obviously can be very noisy. So having these chains, it's gonna be a much quieter ride for you. And because it does live in this channel here, it is going to still provide that sway control, unlike other systems that use chains that are kinda loose and don't allow that sway control. Because we have it living in the channel here, we're still gonna be able to keep that trailer in line. These brackets are a clamp-on design, so we're not gonna need to worry about drilling into our trailer's frame. These will fit frames up to 2 5/8 of an inch thick and from three inches to six inches tall. These will mount about 29 inches back from your hitch ball. So you want to make sure that that's gonna work for your setup, you're not gonna have anything that would obstruct these from being mounted onto your frame there. So this kit is a nice durable steel construction. It's got a powder coat finish to it that's gonna help resist corrosion. So it is gonna last you a nice long time and do a great job for you for a long time to come. It is made here in the USA. Haven’t done a long trip to compare away control. Just installed. Cons first: On an Airstream Globetrotter 25 FBT, it is impossible to get a socket in between the A frame and the battery box to use a torque wrench to measure 40 lbs when tightening the jam bolt. Plus it’s a square bolt head. But it’s only 40 lbs, so we hand tightened hard. Also, when tightening the jam bolt, the chain latch thingy (I’m tired. It’s hot out there!) moved a bit so either hang onto it really well or move it a bit before tightening down and it will move right back to its 29 inch place.
Now the pros: The whole assembly weighs far less than the equalizer we replaced. Installation was easier. No washers so once the hitch head height was determined, we only had to torque once. If we need to adjust weight distribution, we move the chain. My husband compared the two installations like this: “This was junior high math while the equalizer was like college calculus."
And, FWIW, the front and rear end difference in height for our truck and trailer was way more accurate than we could get with the equalizer. Well, maybe we could have, but we would have had to adjust the hitch head and the washers.
The cherry on top was that it was very quiet turning and backing up.

Works as advertised. Havnt been in crosswinds, but trucks passing and meeting, hitch has good control. Load leveling works excellent.

The weight distribution hitch that this one replaced wouldn't transfer enough weight to the front axle. This Blue Ox hitch does this perfectly, leveled the truck/trailer combination by taking weight off the rear axle and transferring it to the front axle. We pull a 28' trailer, approximately 12,000# with about 1,800# of tongue weight. We are midway through our 2nd season and it seems the bars may be getting weak. Probably will need to replace them for next season. I would recommend to the manufacture to incorporate a positive detent lock for the spring loaded cam lock pin. It's hard to keep unlock when adjusting the bar tension. Other than that it's a great system and works very well. Would buy again.

It really does prevent sway. On windy days it can be jerky but the trailer stays put. It took a little to set up and get my rig level. The amount of links to put in the latches will take of few trips to get to your liking but they do have a "base" setting to start from. Also, a great tip from a dealer I bought my trailer from, extend the jack and lift the hitch with the truck still attached to take some torque out of those spring bars to make them easier to set or remove the chains from the rotating latches. I am happy with this purchase.

After I had ordered my hitch I decided I ordered to heavy of one. I called customer service and they were top notch. My order was corrected, shipped and delivered quickly. I’ve pulled my camper twice more and am happy with it. I’m still figuring out the best link to use for the best ride but the starting point they give you in the instructions is a good starting point. Setup took approximately a half hour

The Blue Ox WD hitch has been great for me. What I like is 1. No hitch head angle adjustment needed. 2. No greasy trundle bars. You can store the clean bars in your outside storage without messing up your compartment 3. The large auto style lug wrench provides high leverage for pulling the chains up. 3. Unit is quiet around corners.

The sway bar is awesome and it works great. I gave it a 4 star because I’m somewhat disappointed with how the racket assembly mounted to my RV is rusting. The powder coating did not hold up. I do not live in a salt environment.

I have used my Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item #BXW1000 now for the past year towing our Airstream 27FB with a Ford F150 over 5000 miles and six weeks of road trips.
For comparison, I had used Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control hitches on three prior travel trailers over eight years - including a prior 27FB.
For comparable levels of weight distribution, I have found:
1. The sway control with the Blue Ox is more of a dampening of sway - making it tolerable, while the Reese seemed to eliminate the sway from starting in the first place. A noticeable difference with crosswinds and passing semis at highway speeds.
2. Tightening and loosening the torsion bars with the supplied wrench and rotating cam of the Blue Ox is more stressful and unpredictable than using the lever pipe and lift bracket for the cam of the Reese. I bought a longer torsion bar and socket to replace the supplied wrench which helps (see photo).
3. While the Reese torsion bars and cams require routine topical application of grease, the Blue Ox torsion bar swivel attachments (see photo) require a grease gun to keep lubricated which is a nuisance.
4. Routine wear on the paint of the Blue Ox cam (see photo) adds rust as a maintenance problem that I didn't have with the Reese systems.

This is a good system, though it can require some tinkering when hitching up. Sometimes it's super easy (connect the bars to the receiver, loop the links to the clamps, and rotate until it clicks into place, done!) while occasionally as the ground varies one bar may resist getting loaded and you have to find a level spot to adjust it. We have found the need to change frequently which link its cranked to. In fact, a couple times I've gone to our standard setting but later had to pull over and crank a couple extra links tighter to keep the sway down. That said, it fit all the criteria for the weight range, frame mount points, etc. and has worked over multiple trips and several hundred miles so far.
I would say the powder coating has been pretty durable, there is a bit of rust developing on the clamps where there's been contact with the chains for one year. But the bars, links, and receiver are looking fine overall.
Overall, it wasn't the first model we had our eye on but it fit the situation and we are fairly happy with how it all turned out.

I have been using the Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch for 1,500 tongue weight on our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer for one year now. No regrets as this hitch has been an easy to setup and use and it seems to do it's job nicely. Due to the height of our trailer's hitch I ordered a Reese Titan Weight Dist Shank to use with the SwayPro and the pair work great together.

I’m not very happy with my purchase. The weight distribution hitch I purchased does not fit on my trailer. There is a welded support bracket right where the hitch bracket is supposed to go 29 inches back on my trailer. Can the bracket go further back or does it need to go right above the chain? I’ve attached a photo of my issue.

I love this hitch. So I did a lot of research online A lot of people complained about their Weight Distribution Hitch(WDH) making noise or hard to install. This hitch went to Yellowstone with me (about 38 hr drive each way) with 7k cargo. Worked perfectly. The only time it made any noises is when I had to turn a tight turn. We all know WDH do not like tight turns. This one is no exception but when I say tight, I mean where the trailer tongue is inches from my bumper. It helped with sway. And it def put the weight on the front. Easy install (def watch some videos) and I recently took it off and installed on new trailer. Easy swap. Be warned. Hold that lug bar with both hands when tightening the bars. Do not allow that thing to slip. I broke my arm and was trying to use the bar. Dumb move on my part.

Is is our 2nd blue ox swaypro. Used the 1st one 10 years with our Airstream and it went with the trailer when sold. On our 2nd Airstream and bought another sway pro as the first was easy and worked well. I like the minor design improvement using pins.

After much research, I chose this Blue Ox. Liked this style over the others for it's simple use and less clips to lose. My issue was the rear of my KIA was sagging allowing the camper nose to drop. Which in turn made the camper sway. Very simple installation. The object is tweaking it to get both the tow vehicle and camper level and to line the chain up with the bracket mounted on the frame of the trailer/camper. We've taken it out on 1 short trip so far and it has definitely been an improvement. It is quite heavy, but just about all brands are. Read others that said the ball was not included..... mine was! Very pleased with my decision.

The Blue Ox SwayPro 1500 arrived today. Ordered online from eTrailer on Tuesday and delivered to West Michigan on Friday. FAST! etrailer service and support is always First Class. While heavy, the Blue Ox WDH was in perfect condition. The quality and appearance of the Clue Ox is great. The hitch is powder coated and very clean. I was impressed that Blue Ox has totally upgraded the chain latch wrench. No longer that flat piece of metal. The new wrench is a plated, heavy duty socket wrench. Much like a wheel lug nut wrench that is made especially for releasing the latches. Our new TT was delivered to our dealer while our state is in lockdown. There it sits until May 1. I will update review after install and first trip.
With all the changes in the world... very happy to purchase a product Made in U.S.A.

The Blue OX weight distribution hitch is the way to go. With the sway control built in it makes the system more manageable and easy to use. The bars are straight instead of an L for easier storage and the chain tensioner is much easier to load then the typical system that requires going over a high center. I bolted the tensioners to my frame but the standard mount works fine.

The hitch came very quickly and was well packaged. I was surprised to find an upgraded chain tool and 20k lbs ball already attached to the hitch. The reason I have four stars was there was not option to select a longer shank length. So, $[XX] dollars later I was able to get an extended shank for my 3/4 ton truck.
