Transom savers are designed to protect your boat's transom from road shock, vibrations, and other undue stresses while the boat is being towed. This is particularly important for boats with heavy motor-to-boat weight ratios like johnboats, bass boats, and other small vessels. This type of support will be more effective than your boat's standard tilt-lock feature, which wasn't specifically designed to deal with the stresses of road travel.

Installing the Transom Saver

This transom saver can be installed on your trailer in 2 different ways. It comes with both a quick-release bolt-on adapter for your trailer's frame, and an over-the-roller attachment.

Roller Mount Bracket

If your trailer has a center roller mounted on the frame at the rear, you will want to use the over-the-roller attachment. Simply attach the mount to the support and place it over the roller. Once the transom saver is in position, the weight of the engine being supported will apply enough pressure to stabilize and hold it in place.

Quick Release Adapter

If you don't have a center roller, you will need to bolt the quick-release adapter onto your trailer's frame. Once the bracket is in place, you can easily attach the support to the bracket using the included bolt. To install the bracket, just drill a hole in the center of the frame and bolt the adapter in place.

Setting Up the Transom Saver

Once you have the trailer-end attachment of the support mounted, you can set up the support to prop up your boat's motor. The V-shaped end of the transom saver is what will cradle your boat's motor. It fits around the lower portion of the motor. To get started, remove the pin in the support and telescope it out until it spans the area between the trailer-mounted bracket and your motor. If your motor is equipped with a hydraulic tilt and/or trim, you will want to have it raised while positioning the transom saver.

Once the support is in position, reinsert the pin and lower the motor to ensure that there is enough pressure on the transom saver to hold it in place. Then hook the included rubber strap around the motor to hold it in place in the V-shaped cradle. This will help ensure that movement during travel won't cause the transom saver to slip or lose its position. Be mindful to remove the transom saver from the motor once you have arrived at your destination to prevent damage to the trailer, motor, or other equipment as you launch.

Video Transcript for Tourney Pro Transom Saver Feature Review

Hi, Steven here with etrailer.com. Thank you for joining me while we look at today's Tourney Pro transom saver, which is adjustable from 24 to 36 inches long, made out of aluminum. So I wanna go ahead and show you a closeup here real quick while I talk about the product a little bit. The support brackets on, you know, these particular support brackets are gonna protect your transom, your motor, your steering components from your boat from the shock and vibration while it's being towed. And this type of support's actually gonna be more effective than your boat's built-in tilt lock feature that comes on the motor, which really wasn't specifically designed to deal with the stresses of the road at such big levels. This particular unit's gonna come with two different ways to attach it.

It's gonna come with a quick release bolt-on adapter. So you can take off this part here and bolt this in place, or you can use the roller attachment. It does come with a 24 inch long by one inch thick rubber strap. And like I said, it does telescope from 24 to 36 inches. Collapsed, it's gonna be 24 inches long.

And extended, it's gonna be 36 inches obviously. It weighs about five pounds and it does have a two-year warranty. So it's really nice. And like I said, if you don't have a center roller to attach it on your boat, you can use the supplied quick bolt bracket as well. Well, I wanna thank you so much for joining me today.

That's been our look at the Tourney Pro Transom saver extendable from 24 to 36 inches long. Thank you and have a great day.

The transom saver was easy to install. It prevents the motor from rocking on the boat taking pressure off both the transom and the tilt/trim system. I am pleased with the product and it's function.

by:

I used the transom saver during the entire 2023 summer fishing season. It did the job very well. Initially I was uncertain on sizing and on fit for my boat. I did adapt very slightly install by using 2 of my own bunji cords: one around the motor, and one around the roller of the trailer. I have 14 foot Naden aluminum fishing boat, with a 25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke motor. This modern 4 stroke is about 80 pounds (?) heavier than the original 25 HP Mercury 2 stroke. This transom saver has worked very well to remove weight from transom of boat when hauling on trailer.

Easy installation. Used the included trailer crossmember bracket to mount as I do not have a stern roller.

Had a transom saver years ago that was not built half as well as this one.

It’s worth the extra cost over less expensive transom savers they don’t hold up. I’m very pleased with this product!

by:

Was just what we needed. Fast delivery and great customer service.

by:

Installation was a snap and the support that it provides to the transom of my boat is very obvious, especially when riding over rough roads.

by:

Quality is fine. Would be complete if it included one more short strap for securing yolk to my roller.

Pretty big unit... Hardware is kind of chinsy.

  • Transom Savor Recommendation For Small 8 Plastic Boat With 2.5 HP Motor
I recommend the Tourney Pro Transom Saver # 315-FXJ for your 5'x8' plastic boat. The transom saver is definitely recommended with the lightweight plastic boat you have. With this transom saver you can mount it to the trailer by sliding it onto a Keel Roller # YR12244-125EC or attaching the quick release adapter onto your trailers frame. It can extend from 24" to 36" in length by 3" increments.

  • Replacement Motor Support Toggle For Old Transom Saver
The Replacement Motor Support Toggle for Jif Marine Transom Saver # 315-FXL is designed to fit Jif transom savers # 315-FXJ, # 315-FXH, and # 315-FXI. If you have any of those transom savers, then # 315-FXL will work for you. Alternatively, if you have the Tourney Transom Saver # 315-FXK, then the correct replacement is # 315-FXK-1. I wouldn't be able to confirm or deny that either of these will work/not work for you without a little more information.

  • Why Would Stoplights Light Up all The Time After Install of New Trailer Wiring Harness
Sounds like maybe you have the running light circuit ran to the stop/turn light circuit so you are getting the brighter illumination all the time. Best option will be to check and make sure everything is connected properly. Standard trailer wiring colors are white for ground, brown for running lights, green for right turn/stop, and yellow for left turn/stop.
