How Many Hub Savers Do I Need and Where Do They Install?

How many of these do I need per hub? Does it go on the outside of the outer bearing? What bearing size does it fit?

Expert Reply:
Jason, you only need one Hub Saver per wheel. Since they're sold in a pack of two, one package is enough for a single-axle trailer with two hubs. If you have a tandem-axle trailer, you'll need two packs to cover all four wheels.
The Hub Saver installs on the outside of the outer bearing. It slides onto the spindle after the outer bearing and sits between the outer bearing and the washer, then the castle nut. In the event the outer bearing fails, the Hub Saver helps prevent the hub from sliding off the spindle by remaining captured behind the castle nut.
This particular Hub Saver is designed for hubs using an L44643 or L44649 outer bearing with an L44610 race, which are commonly found on 2,500 lb, 3,000 lb, 3,500 lb, and some 4,200 lb trailer axles.
Just out of curiosity, are you installing these as preventative maintenance, or are you rebuilding your hubs while you have everything apart?
