Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring - Trailer Connectors - PK11700 Review

Today well be reviewing part number PK11700. This is the Pollak Heavy Duty 7-Pole Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector. The 7-pole plug is going to connect the trailer to the socket on the tow vehicle. Its going to feature round floating solid brass pins. Its going to ensure that minimum voltage drop is attained. They are coded with dielectric nonconductive grease thats going to prevent corrosion and resistance.

Theyre also going to offer easy alignment and maximum contact. Its also going to feature solid brass terminal screws. Now the housing is made from a die cast zinc housing so its going to provide a lot of strength, a lot of durability. Its also going to feature a tapered design with jumbo finger pull grips. Thats going to allow easy hand position and its really going to allow you to get a nice secure grip to disconnect from the connection point. Its going to feature a cable lock system.

You can see that little retention plate in there. Its also going to have a retainer screw. The interior upfront is made from a high impact ABS thermoplastic material. Its going to include the extended lip for easy removal and replacement and this will accept the wide range of wires from 16 gauge to number 8 gauge. This does meet and exceed all standards of SAEJ560. Its going to be interchangeable will all competitive ATA types.

Its going to offer us a volt rating of 6 volts to 28 volts and a current rating of 40 continuous duty amps. When it comes to the wiring configuration, we want to recommend the gauge wire. Were going to give you the color, the circuit and the recommended wire gauge. For the white, thats going to be our ground. We recommend 8 gauge.

Black is for clearance side marker or identification lights. Thats going to be 12 gauge. Yellow is for left turn and hazard signal. Thats going to be 12 gauge. Red is for stop lamps and anti-lock devices, 10 gauge. Green is right turn and hazard signal, 12 gauge. Brown is for tail and rear clearance marker and license plate lamps, 12 gauge. Blue is for your auxiliary circuit. We recommend 10 gauge. To get your screws in there, you do need to loosen up the retainer screw here at the back, thats going to allow that plate in there to get some room so you can get your wires through. To run your wires through, you need to undo the set screws on the side of the plug at the front, thats going to allow the insert to actually remove from the housing. Then you can make your connection points, place this portion back into the housing, reset your screws and then set the retainer screw here at the base and thats going to allow the insert here to push up against the wires. Its also going to help limit the amount of dirt and moisture that can get in there to your connection points. Thats going to do it for our review of part number PK11700. This is the Pollak Heavy Duty 7-Pole Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector. .

The way the connector comes apart & goes back together is very sensible. The terminal connections can accommodate large wires - up to 12 gauge on all except for 1 that can go up to 10 gauge as far as I can remember. They could possibly handle larger but I didn't check since I didn't need the wires that large. They're labeled for standard 7-way trailer wire colors, which is useful for most people but I couldn't go by it. Mine was a custom application. If a spring strain relief came with it that would be awesome but I wouldn't expect it for the price I paid. Hope that info helps. 749531

Haven't wired up the connector yet. Would have been nice if the standard wiring diagram used through out the USA would have been included. Then the trailer would be wired correctly to any vehicle that was using it. Mine didn't have the trailer brake or back up lite shown. 667026

  • Vehicle Side 7-Way Round Pin Connector for a 2015 Nissan Frontier
If you only need the vehicle side 7-Way round pin connector and already have all the wiring to attach to it on your tow vehicle you can use connector # PK11720. If you do not have the wiring already available on your 2015 Nissan Frontier then you will need a few parts. If the truck did not come with any kind of trailer connector you will need to start by adding # 118525. You will cut off the 4-Way end and attach the wires to the back of the new 7-Way round pin, see diagram. If the trailer...

  • Which Pin On a 2018 Ford F-150 Trailer Connector Is For Reverse Lights
Yes, the center pin for the 7-way trailer connector on your 2018 Ford F-150 is for the reverse light circuit. If the vehicle is placed into reverse then the pin will become active and send power to the trailer. I have attached a selection of our backup lights for you below. I recommend the Hot-Line LED Trailer Backup Light Bar part # 328-003-6017W because its's easy to install and has LED bulbs. In order to run the power wire from this light to the trailer connector you can use part # DW07550-1.

To convert the 7-Way on your 2018 VW Atlas to a 4-Way, I recommend using the Pollak Adapter # PK12716. This will plug right into the Pollak 7-Way on your vehicle and provide you with a 4-Way flat on the other end. It also features a nice tethered cap to protect the connector from debris and corrosion. I have attached a short video demonstration on this adapter that you can also check out.

A 7-pole round to 6-pole adapter, the Hopkins Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47445 will not actually require any wires - including the brake wire - to be connected to the adapter. You simply plug one end to your vehicle's 7-round connector and then plug in your trailer-end 6-round to the adapter. For the wiring you can use the Deka Jacketed 7 Wire # DW04914-1 which is a jacketed 7 wire sold by the foot that will allow you to connect to your trailer's wiring and the plug. Either would work well for you if your tractor has trailer wiring setup for combined turn signals where the blinkers and stoplights are on the same circuit. If they are separate then you would need to install a second 7-way blade as that would be the easiest way. For that you would need a 7-way like part # 37185 and a signal converter like...
