How to Wire in a New 7-Way to a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500

Updated 04/14/2015 | Published 04/12/2015

Question:

I have a 1997 dodge ram 2500, SLT with 5.9 gas V8 engine. My connector was damaged when the previous owner backed into a telephone pole. It broke into several pieces so I started to replace it and I found that several of the wires were broken. These are the color wires I have: 1. Green with red stripe 2. Brown with Pink Stripe 3. Blue 4. Black 5. Brown 6. Red 7. Purple

We don't have a wiring diagram that details what your trailer connector wiring would be based on color but I can give you an easy way to determine this.

You will need a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and you will want to test each of the wires for voltage when the different turn signals are applied. You might use masking tape to label each wire to make this easier.

Once you have all of the wires sorted out you will then want to wire them to your new connector using the diagram I attached as a guide.
