Video Transcript for Curt Wiring - Trailer Connectors - C56496 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take a look at the Curt Upgraded Circuit-Protected Powered Tail Light Converter, with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now, this will adapt separate turn and stop lights, which is a three-wire system that's on your vehicle, to a combined turn and stop signal, which is a two-wire system on your trailer. It does include this powered converter, this black box here. This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a powered module, so it does connect directly to your battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Now, to install this, it does require a powered converter wiring kit, part number 55151. We do sell that separately on our website, and it is listed on this product page as a related product.

That is needed to complete your installation. This will work with domestic and import vehicles, virtually eliminates the draw on your vehicle tail light circuit. Does have a potted enclosure to resist water and vibration. And this will protect against over-voltage ESD, which is electrostatic discharge and short circuit. No heavy duty flasher is required, and again, the black wire connects to your vehicle battery so it is battery-powered and it is circuit-protected.

They do use SMT technology in this converter, which is surface mount technology. That's a method for constructing electrical circuits where the components are mounted onto the surface of printed circuit board, and it'll give you a consistent, reliable performance, and it'll help maximize your trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat. Now, this kit will work with vehicles that have LED tail lights, and it will work with trailers that have LED tail lights. Includes everything here on the table. It also includes a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install everything, four quick splices to make your connections, piece of double-face tape; this converter box is pretty heavy, so you do want to attach it to the flat surface so it doesn't move around. They do include a couple cable ties to take up any slack in wiring, and they even include a grounding screw.

The white wire with the eyelet on it needs to be grounded, so they do give you a grounding screw that you can make your own ground.A few specs on this: The pigtail length on these is about 17 inches long. The four way that's connected here, the connector length on that is about 58 inches long from the converter box. Now the amperage allowance on this kit is 3 amps per turn and brake circuit, that's per circuit, or 6 amps for the tail light circuit. If you notice, it does have this integrated cover, so when you're not plugged into your trailer, you can put that cover on there to protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements. And basically, if you look at the top of the converter box, it'll tell you where all those wires go. Basically, the red wire will connect to your brake.

The white wire we mentioned is the ground. The yellow is the left turn. The green is the right turn. The black was the power wire that'll go to your vehicle's battery. And then the brown wire is for your tail light circuit. But that should do it for the review on the Curt Upgraded Circuit-Protected Powered Tail Light Converter with the four-way flat trailer connector.

Have purchased a number of hitches and wire harness for a number of different vehicles I have owned. All products were easy to install and worked perfectly . The instructions were clear and quality of their products is top notch. I have used their customer service to ensure I was ordering the right product for a older vehicle (75 Toyota Landcruiser) they were patient and ensured I got the right set . Their customer service is matched by their pricing and that would be hard to beat . Delivery (Canada) was exceptionally fast. Probably not my last order and I have recommended this company and their products to my friends. If your considering a purchase I don't think you will be disappointed and you will be saving lots of money doing it yourself. 680861

  • Replacement Powered Converter for Curt Wiring Harness on 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • I do have a solution for you, however the included powered taillight converter from the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56150 is not currently available as a separate item. For a cost-effective way to replace this converter, I recommend going with the universal Curt Circuit Protected Powered Converter # C56496. You can simply cut the input wires on your existing harness and connect them to this new converter. I have attached a video demonstration on this product for you to...

  • For your 2005 Subaru Baja there is a trailer wiring option confirmed to fit, but not a T-connector type that would plug inline. Instead you would need to use the hardwire kit part # C56496 that is a universal fit kit that will work on your vehicle. This is the best priced option we carry as well.

The only real time consuming part is running the power wire to the battery. The power wire must be connected to the battery, no other power source has been tested and approved. • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that the Turn Signals Activate with Blinkers
  • The issue you are experiencing is due to the fact that your trailer has separate trailer wiring circuits, meaning the turn signals and the brake lights are on separate bulbs and the trailer wiring harness # C56496 you installed is designed to operate combined trailer taillights, meaning the turn signals and brake lights are on the same bulb. What you are going to need to do is install the taillight signal converter part # 118158 on the wiring of your trailer. Once installed the red wire...

  • If the trailer wiring was working properly why do you need to run that additional wire to the converter? It sounds like that is the problem. Only one source for the right turn and stop light circuit is needed. What you will want to do is test the wires going into the box of the converter box for voltage with a circuit tester like the # 3808 to see if there is voltage going into the box when the taillight functions of your vehicle are applied, and then test the output side of the box...

And, we do have a wiring harness that will work for your vehicle, but it will have to be hard-wired. Don't let that scare you, we have detailed instructions and a video of the installation on a Nissan. A popular wiring kit for the CrossCabriolet is Curt # C56496. • How to Replace Just the Converter Box of a Curt Trailer Wiring Harness
  • You could cut the old converter box out of your # C56164 and then install the converter box of part # C56496 in it's place. Normally we recommend to check the trailer wiring for any shorts and fix as necessary before connecting new trailer wiring so that the new box doesn't short as well. But since your trailer is brand new and works with your other vehicle you would most likely be fine.

  • Will Curt Trailer Wiring for a 2015 Acura TLX Short Out
  • The only people that have problems with the Curt trailer wiring part # C56496 burning out are the ones who do not properly secure the converter box. If the box comes loose and starts banging around it will eventually burn out. Aside from that it is an excellent option that has been confirmed as a fit for your vehicle. We don't have any confirmed fit T-connector style harnesses for your vehicle so I am not sure if they have your vehicle confused with a different one like a regular TL.

  • Why Is Trailer Wiring Converter Harness Needed for 2007 Cadillac SRX
  • In a lot of vehicle the turn signals are separate from the stop lights which is different from how trailer lighting works. That's why a converter is needed to match the circuit styles. Also a lot of vehicle't taillights can't handle the amperage draw of the trailer taillights so the power has to come from the battery which is what the # C56496 also allows.
