Troubleshooting No Brake Lights After Curt 4-Way Flat Installation

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/17/2025

Question:

Hello - I wired up this converter to convert my Jeep LED tail lights from 3-wire to 2-wire. FWIW - My Jeep does have a factory trailer harness installed. This Curt 56496 converter is replacing a Tekonsha 119130 converter. Did I get a bad converter? Can you help me troubleshoot my Brake/Turn signals? Thank you! * Tail lights work good * Brake lights do not work at all. * Brake light Input Side = 12v multimeter * Brake light Output Side = 1v * Turn signals flicker * Turn Signal Input = 12v * Turn Signal Output = 1v

Hi James; when you have power running into the converter but not coming out that typically indicates it is a bad converter. The one thing I would check is the ground connection. Make sure it is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. If the ground doesn't make a difference I would see about replacing it since it is under warranty. Also, did you install the # 55151 with the wiring harness? You need the in-line fuse to keep it protected.

Hey James, did securing the ground or adding the in-line fuse kit clear up the brake and turn signal issues with your Curt converter? Your update could make it easier for others troubleshooting a similar wiring setup.
