How do I Convert My 6 Round to a 7 Way, and Have a 4 Flat on the Back of My 1997 F53?

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/17/2024

Question:

I have a 1997 f53 motorhome that has a 6’pole round plug. I have 2 trailers that I tow, 1 with 4 flat and the other 7 spade plugs. Do you offer a kit to get rid of the 6 round and rewire in a multi plug for those 2 plugs? I have been using adapters but I don’t like using those. Thank you

Hello Ryan,

Yes, we do have some options for you. It really depends on how the 6 round is wired in. The Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way to 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # C57672 will get the 7 blade, and 4 flat connectors on the back of your 1997 Ford F-53. If you look at how it installs you have to connect it to the 4 flat, I am not sure if your 6 round has the same kind of installation. So if needed, you might need to install the Curt 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector with Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter # C56496 as well. You will need to go back and see how the 6 round is wired in and look for that 4 flat connector.

Hey Ryan, what did you find when you checked how the 6-round plug on your F-53 was wired? Once you had a look, were you able to get the Curt adapter and converter working for both trailers? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with mixed trailer plugs.
