How to Replace Just the Converter Box of a Curt Trailer Wiring Harness

Question:
I have a 2014 Ford Escape, Titanium that has a dealer installed hitch and wiring harness Curt 56164 over a year ago... Tried to use it for the first time last week with weird results right tail light is on when harness is connected and right tail light works when left signal is initiated, nothing else lights up This is a 3 month old new boat trailer that works fine on my other vehicle.. Since this is an out of warranty item, can you suggest a suitable replacement relay/converter box only that can be substituted for the 56164 since all the wiring is already in place. thanks

You could cut the old converter box out of your # C56164 and then install the converter box of part # C56496 in it's place.
Normally we recommend to check the trailer wiring for any shorts and fix as necessary before connecting new trailer wiring so that the new box doesn't short as well. But since your trailer is brand new and works with your other vehicle you would most likely be fine.
