Butyl tape is an essential tool for weatherproofing marine and RV components. This sturdy material creates a long-lasting, weatherproof gasket to fill gaps between your RV's outer hull and the mounting points for vents, windows, and doors.

Features:

  • Butyl tape functions as a gasket for a weatherproof seal when mounting RV or marine components
    • Sticks to the underside of mounting brackets and installation points before pressing into place on your RV or boat
    • Provides for greater protection from the elements than using sealant alone
    • Prevents the intrusion of moisture into nail or screw holes
  • Adhesive works on most nonporous materials including roofing membranes and metal
    • Won't crack, harden, or shrink
    • Can be applied in temperatures from -5 degrees F to 120 degrees F
  • Easy to use - press tape firmly to first surface, remove backing, and then press onto second surface for an even seal
    • Applies best to clean and dry surfaces
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Quantity: 1 roll
  • Dimensions: 20' long x 1" wide x 3/16" thick
  • Application temperature range: -5 F - 120 F
  • Colors may vary
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Butyl tape is used primarily as a gasket for preventing moisture from leaking into your RV around cutouts in the hull for vents, doors, windows, and wiring outlets. Butyl tape is widely used by RV manufacturers because of its high performance and durability. It does not dry out and crack over time, and its strong adhesive quality means it sticks and stays in place on smooth surfaces.

Butyl tape is most often used in conjunction with sealants to create the highest level of weatherproofing to prevent leaks and ongoing damage. It's ideal for use in areas where fixtures need to be drilled, nailed or bolted into place. The rubbery material keeps those openings sealed and free from water damage. While this is great for those who do their own repairs and upgrades, butyl tape is also good to have on hand to make temporary repairs. The tacky material can plug up any problem areas and hold strong, so you don't have to cut your trip short.

  • Recommended Tankless Replacement For An Atwood GC6AA-10E RV Water Heater
Hi Wes, All newer water heater models are transitioning to smaller sizes as the technology gets better so you'll likely have a gap regardless of which unit you choose to go with. There's typically framing around the water heater so you'll just need to add in some 2" x 2" boards to fill in the gap and give the mounting flange of the new unit something to grab onto when mounting. I've attached a video below where Jake had to do this in order to install the # FR93FR. These units come with...

  • Recommended Butyl Tape And Sealant For Installing A MaxxAir RV Roof Vent
I recommend the Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing # AL28FJ as it's 1" wide to fully cover the flange of your vent. Make sure you overlap the ends to form a tight waterproof seal. You can see me doing this at 2:50 mark in the attached video below. As for the sealant, I recommend the Alpha Systems 1021 Self-Leveling Sealant for RVs # AL98KV. One tube of this will be enough to fully cover the screws and layer it down to the roof to ensure you don't have a water leak.

  • Will The Furrion Tankless Water Heater Be A Good Replacement For An Atwood GC6AA-10E
The Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR48SR would be the correct choice to replace your Atwood GC6AA-10E in terms of size. The unit has a depth of 19-1/4" so you'd have about 3/4" for your water and gas hookups, so you might need to change out your fittings to ones with a 90 degree bend in order to get them in place. These units require both propane and 12v DC power in order to operate. The propane fuels the heat and the 12v powers the electronics that control the heat output. You power...

  • Troubleshooting A Leaking MaxxAir MaxxFan In A 2021 Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite Travel Trailer
The inner shroud of the vent is for looks only so it's very concerning that you're getting water through the cracks in it from overtightening the mounting screws. This would be an indication that you have a leak originating somewhere up on the roof. This is typically caused by a damaged lid or poor sealing job when installing the vent. If the lid is the issue then I would need to know the specific model to find the correct replacement lid. There's also covers like the # MA86JR that can...

  • Parts Needed To Swap To A 21' Awning On A Forest River Forester 2861DS
Hey Ken, In order to go larger you'll need the extrusion rail (top rail the fabric slips into at the wall) to cover the length of the awning, mounting hardware, butyl tape # AL28FJ, non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1, and some extra wiring to run from the new awning to either the existing switch or to install the new switch included with the # LC75FR. I would also recommend reaching out to Forest River and seeing if they'll give you a diagram of the stud layout so you can measure and make...

  • Recommended Replacement For A Suburban SW6 DE RV Water Heater
Hi Michael, To replace your Suburban SW6 DE water heater you'll want the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR98SR. This tankless water heater is one of the most efficient units on the market, producing up 144 gallons of hot water per hour. The dimensions I'm seeing for your Suburban show it being roughly 12-3/4" tall by 12-3/4" wide so the # FR98SR with its 16" x 16" door would be a great fit. During the installation you're going to want to use some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the back...

  • Slide Topper Needed For A Grand Design Imagine 2250RK Travel Trailer
Hey Jonathan, The Solera RV Slide-Out Awning - 103" Wide - Black # LCV000168108 would be the correct size for your 103" slide out as long as you don't have anything next to it that could interfere with the arms of the awning. Awning arms will stick out 2.5" so if you don't have anything within 3" of either side of the slide out you shouldn't have any issues. The consistency of the butyl tape is the bigger factor here when choosing the best one. Some are VERY thin and a nightmare to...

  • Can The High Pointe Microwave # HP94ZR Be Vented To The Outside
The High Pointe Over the Range RV Convection Microwave # HP94ZR can be vented outside but you'd need to pick up a bit of ducting and duct tape from your local hardware store to connect the vents on the top of the unit to an exterior vent. If you don't already have an exterior vent then we currently offer one in white # V2111-13 and black # V2111-55. You'll want to pick up some butyl tape # AL28FJ and some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 for a waterproof connection to the trailer wall.

  • Recommended Replacement For A Dometic CareFree Latitude Awning On A 2017 Thor Windsport 34 P
You can definitely replace your Dometic CareFree awning with the Solera 12V XL Power RV Awning # LCV000335015-362241. You'll just want to ensure the length is correct to replace your current awning since the arms are a bit different between the two awnings. Solera awnings have vertical arms that will mount to the wall of your motorhome. The # LCV000335015-362241 has 78" long arm brackets so you'll need to ensure that these won't get in the way of anything else (windows, door handles,...

Hey Wayne, Yes, the MaxxFan Mini Plus Manual RV Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # MA00-03801 does have just a black power wire and white ground wire. You'll want to pick up some buytl tape # AL28FJ and self-leveling sealant # 34427034145-1 to waterproof the vent. I've attached an installation video below where I'll walk you through the process.

Hey Daniel, We unfortunately do not have a vent in a larger size to fit your trailer. I would look at your local hardware store for a plastic range hood vent that matches your sizing. You'll also want to pick up some butyl tape # AL28FJ and some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 to properly waterproof the vent.

  • Can The Stromberg Carlson Folding Handrail # AC-544 Be Mounted To A Trailer With Aluminum Siding
Hey John, You're likely going to run into an issue with the aluminum siding regardless of what railing you choose. The bases would need to fit inside the grooves of the side and match the spacing in order for you to not have to trim or alter the siding. I've seen people either trim out the siding just enough to fit the bases of the railing or place some sort of weatherproof block to push out from the siding for the bases to mount to. With either installation method you'd obviously want...

  • Replacement Control Panel For An Atwood GC6AA-10E RV Water Heater

We unfortunately no longer carry this part since it's been discontinued but you can check to see if anyone else might still have one. If not then you'll have to replace the entire water heater. Hey Ben, We unfortunately do not offer crossbars long enough to fit tracks spaced 94" apart on center. You could remove the tracks and place them closer together to fit bars like the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack # Y01-140B-NT you were looking at. • Are Replacement Control Boards Available For An Atwood RV Water Heater Model No. GCH10A-3E
Hey Ron, Since the Atwood line has been discontinued for some time now we no longer offer the correct control board for your GCH10A-3E model. At this point all we can recommend is replacement of the entire system. If you want to go that route then I recommend going with a Furrion tankless water heater. These are a bit smaller so you'll need to frame in the cutout hole in order for the new unit to have something to mount to. Some 2x2's or 2x3's would likely be more than enough to fill in...

  • Parts Needed to Install Solar on 2016 Jayco Pinnacle 5th Wheel
Hey Paul; the answer to your question depends on what you want to do exactly. It also depends on what your trailer already has on it. I'm going to assume the 2016 Jayco Pinnacle you put in our fitguide is the trailer you have. I'm also going to operate off of the assumption that it has the solar prep in place. If it doesn't, you will need additional wires to run to everything. If you just want to charge the batteries you will need your 200W solar panel # 34282182 and feet # 34272708 and...

  • Recommendations For Replacing RV Water System Components
I drew up a little diagram of how RV water systems are typically designed and attached it below to make it easier for you to see each component. I believe what you're referring to is simply just the fresh water tank drain, which you could use part # CAM22243 to tie into your tank and allow it to drain. The Anti-Siphon valve # A01-0141VP you were looking at simply connects to a Valterra Hydroflush # F02-4100 for you to hook up a garden hose and clean out your black tank. For the fresh...

Hey Jarrod, The dimensions I'm seeing for the Suburban SW6DE are showing as 12.69"h x 12.69"w x 19.19"d for the body. The access door will be a bit larger so you'll want to take a quick measurement to see which new size you'll need to fully cover any gaps and make the overall finish nice looking. You'll want to go with a Furrion water heater since they're the best performance-wise and have the least amount of troubleshooting issues. The SW6DE can produce about 10 gallons of hot water per...

  • Recommended Furrion Tankless Water Heater Replacement For An Atwood GC6AA-10E
The dimensions I can find online for a GC6AA-10E show it needing a 16" x 16" door, but there are plenty of outliers out there that can require different sized doors so it's best to measure what you current have and then find the corresponding fit. The # FR48SR comes with a 16-1/8" tall x 18-1/8" wide access door, so if your measurements are 18" wide by 14.5" tall then you'd be fine with this door. If not then you could go with the # FR68SR, which has an 18" x 18" door, to fully cover...

  • Recommended Solera Slide Topper For A 150" Flange To Flange Measurement
Hi Donald, For a 150" flange to flange measurement you'll need the Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000163299. This slide topper is designed to fit 146" - 151" flange to flange measurements. Going a size larger than this could potentially sit the mounting brackets out too far to be able to mount them to the wall of the slide out. This would have roughly 3" of overhang (fabric and arms) so it's important to make sure the arms won't come into contact with anything near your slide out. To...

For a 138-1/2" flange to flange measurement I recommend the Solera RV Slide-Out Awning - 139" Wide - Black # LCV000168328. This will have approximately 2-3/4" of overhang past the slide out so you'll want to make sure that there's enough clearance on both sides of the box. If not you can size down to the # LCV000184673 and would need to play with it a bit to get it centered on the box. You'll want to pick up some butyl tape # AL28FJ to waterproof the mounting brackets as well. I've attached...
