Butyl tape is an essential tool for weatherproofing marine and RV components. This sturdy material creates a long-lasting, weatherproof gasket to fill gaps between your RV's outer hull and the mounting points for vents, windows, and doors.

Features:

  • Butyl tape functions as a gasket for a weatherproof seal when mounting RV or marine components
    • Sticks to the underside of mounting brackets and installation points before pressing into place on your RV or boat
    • Provides for greater protection from the elements than using sealant alone
    • Prevents the intrusion of moisture into nail or screw holes
  • Adhesive works on most nonporous materials including roofing membranes and metal
    • Won't crack, harden, or shrink
    • Can be applied in temperatures from -5 degrees F to 120 degrees F
  • Easy to use - press tape firmly to first surface, remove backing, and then press onto second surface for an even seal
    • Applies best to clean and dry surfaces
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Quantity: 1 roll
  • Dimensions: 20' long x 1" wide x 3/16" thick
  • Application temperature range: -5 F - 120 F
  • Colors may vary
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Butyl tape is used primarily as a gasket for preventing moisture from leaking into your RV around cutouts in the hull for vents, doors, windows, and wiring outlets. Butyl tape is widely used by RV manufacturers because of its high performance and durability. It does not dry out and crack over time, and its strong adhesive quality means it sticks and stays in place on smooth surfaces.

Butyl tape is most often used in conjunction with sealants to create the highest level of weatherproofing to prevent leaks and ongoing damage. It's ideal for use in areas where fixtures need to be drilled, nailed or bolted into place. The rubbery material keeps those openings sealed and free from water damage. While this is great for those who do their own repairs and upgrades, butyl tape is also good to have on hand to make temporary repairs. The tacky material can plug up any problem areas and hold strong, so you don't have to cut your trip short.

I changed out the OEM bathroom fan with a Maxxair variable speed fan and used this tape for sealing the surface on the roof. It worked wonderfully!

by:

Used it under brackets to seal screw holes through the roof when installing a solar panel on our trailer. Does what it is supposed to do. Comes in a 20' roll where we only needed about 8" of it. Oh well, now we have plenty if there is further need for weatherproofing.

by:

Used this tape on some replacement skylights. It’s a little tricky to get on as it is not rigid. I found cutting to length prior to applying worked best for me. I found that in the end it was very forgiving.

  • Where Is Alpha Systems Butyl Tape Manufactured
Alpha Systems Q130 Butyl Tape for RVs # AL28FJ is manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana.

  • Recommended Butyl Tape And Sealant For Installing A MaxxAir RV Roof Vent
I recommend the Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing # AL28FJ as it's 1" wide to fully cover the flange of your vent. Make sure you overlap the ends to form a tight waterproof seal. You can see me doing this at 2:50 mark in the attached video below. As for the sealant, I recommend the Alpha Systems 1021 Self-Leveling Sealant for RVs # AL98KV. One tube of this will be enough to fully cover the screws and layer it down to the roof to ensure you don't have a water leak.

  • Recommended Exterior Ladder For A 2016 Forest River Wildwood M-27RKSS Travel Trailer
If you're wanting to add on a ladder to your 2016 Forest River Wildwood M-27RKSS Travel Trailer then the Stromberg Carlson RV Exterior Ladder w/ Hinges - Aluminum - 99-1/2" Tall x 12" Wide # LA-401 you were looking at would be a great option. This ladder is a universal fit that can easily be cut down to fit the height of your trailer. I do recommend picking up some butyl tape # AL28FJ and some non-sag sealant # AL28KV to ensure that you don't have any water leaking in through your mounting...

  • Recommended Slide Out Awning For An 81 Flange To Flange Measurement
The Solera RV Slide-Out Awning - 7'1" Wide - 48" Projection - Black # LCV000165062 you were looking at already is the correct size for your 81" flange to flange measurement. This specific awning has a fitment range of 80" - 85" so you can expect a total overhang (including the arms) of approximately 4.5" on each side. As long as you have enough clearance on both sides of the slide out so that this topper doesn't come into contact with anything you'll be good to go. If you do have something...

  • Slide Out Topper Extrusion Rail Placement When A Rain Gutter Is In The Way
The C-Channel of the extrusion rail that your Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000168106 is going to slide into needs to be placed 3-inches above the slide out flange. If you can get close to 3-inches by butting the C-Channel up against the gutter then you'll be fine. If you're only getting 2" then I personally would remove the gutter and raise it to give your slide topper enough room to mount correctly. Make sure that you place some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the back of the interior brackets...

  • Recommended Stainless Steel Door Holders With A 1 x 2-1/4 Mounting Pattern
The T-Style Hook and Keeper Door Holder for RV or Enclosed Trailer - 6" Hook # 37210525 and 4" # 37210515 both have a mounting pattern of 1" x 2-1/4" (seen below) so you should be good to just reuse your current mounting holes. I do recommend putting some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the bracket to help seal up those mounting holes so that water doesn't leak through.

You can upgrade your A and E manual awning to an electric awning by using The Solera 12V Electric RV Awning Conversion Kit # LC434724. This kit has a simple bolt-on installation with included hardware and will wire into your RV's power supply. A 2-1/2 inch minimum clearance is needed between the awning rail and the top of the entry door. The power switch will mount inside or outside your RV for a easy convenient access. • What Do The Mounting Screws For Solera Awnings Screw Into On An RV
The four bolts placed in the top of the awning arms like the # LC405523 typically hit a brace while the rest just connect with the backerboard for the wall. I do recommend using some butyl tape # AL28FJ to help prevent any leaks through your mounting screws and it will also help hold it to the wall while you bolt the arm in place.

  • Can Solera Slide Out Awnings Be Mounted To RV's With Aluminum Siding
Yes, the Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000163285 is capable of being mounted to aluminum sided trailers. I've attached a picture below of this awning being attached to aluminum sidewalls from a customer review. I recommend grabbing some butyl tape # AL28FJ for your brackets to ensure a nice watertight seal.

Yes, the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - Gas - Automatic Pilot - 60,000 BTU - 16" x 18" Door # FR48SR is exactly what you're looking for. I recommend picking up some butyl tape # AL28FJ and non-sag sealant # AL28KV to use along the mounting flange to form a proper watertight seal.

The ladders we carry like the Surco Exterior RV Ladder # SP501L are all universal fits so the mounting holes will most likely not line up with the mounting holes from the factory ladder. If you do choose to go with a universal fit ladder then I recommend also picking up some butyl tape # AL28FJ and Self-Leveling Sealant # AL28KV to prevent any water from leaking in. I've attached a short video below where I installed a similar style ladder to help walk you through the process.

My recommendation is the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - Gas - Automatic Pilot - 60,000 BTU - 18" x 18" Door, part # FR68SR. This water heater comes with a wall thermostat to adjust the water temperature down to the degree. I recommend using the Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing - 20' x 1" x 3/16", part # AL28FJ, to seal the area around the backside flange area and holes. You will not have to enlarge the door area, but you will have to anchor the new door to the flange...

  • Slide Topper Awning Ordering Widths
If your slide out, at its widest point (measured at the outside of the flanges/T-molding) is 12'-1" then I would recommend the next size up. Having a couple of inches on each side is helpful. In this case I would select the Lippert/Solera # LCV000177334 (black) or # LCV000163298 (white) which measures 12'-6" wide. If it were me, I would install the Alpha Systems # AL28FJ butyl tape between the awning rail and camper body.

  • Troubleshooting Limited Side Clearance When Installing A Slide Out Awning
The arms of a slide out sit approximately 2.5" past the fabric. The Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000177334 goes up to 145 so if subtract 140.5 from that you're left with 4.5" that would be divided in two and added to the 2.5" from the arm, which would mean that your awning sticks out roughly 4.75" on each side past your 140.5" measurement. The # LCV000168328 fits a flange measurement of 134" - 139" so you would only have to worry about the 2.5" on each side which would shrink as well...

You will need to make sure your trailer roof is capable of holding this unit(94 pounds) and the people who will be installing it. In the area it will be installed it will need a roof thickness of at least 2-1/2 inches to mount and a 14x14 inch hole. You will see in the videos attached how to accomplish this.
