Smart diodes are our favorite option for getting brake and turn signals on your towed car. They are really well-made and reliable, plus pretty easy to install. This kit is for variable voltage/multiplex incandescent tail lights.

Notes:
"Don't be intimidated by diodes: if you can strip and crimp wire, this installation will be no problem."
A variable voltage tail light (also known as multiplex) uses the same wire for both the brake light and the tail light, sending a 12-volt signal to the brake light and a 9-volt signal to the tail light. This works fine when you're driving, but when you are flat towing, the RV will send a 12-volt signal to both the brake light and tail light, making them the same level of brightness and impossible to distinguish from each other. The drivers behind you won't be able to tell the difference between your tail lights and your brake lights, which is a huge safety issue.
These smart diodes solve that problem by simply converting the signal from the RV to the lower voltage needed for your car's tail lights. They install permanently, but don't worry; everything will work as normal when you're not flat towing.
This kit is designed to work with incandescent lights only, so if you have LED variable voltage lights, you'll need kit RO44FR (sold separately) instead.
If the engine is off and your car's brake lights illuminate when you press the brake pedal, you need to install a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) with this kit. Without a relay, your car's brake signal will override the turn signal sent by the RV when you are slowing down to make a turn, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Other drivers will see that you're slowing down, but not that you're making a turn. With a brake light relay, you can signal both and travel safely.
A combined lighting system, or 2-wire system, uses the same light bulb to signal both braking and turning. (In other words, the car signals a turn by flashing the brake light.)
A separate lighting system, or 3-wire system, has the brake signal and the turn signal light up independently of each other. Typically, the turn signal is amber.
If your motorhome has a separate lighting system, add a tail light wiring converter (RM-732 - sold separately) to keep your setup functioning properly.
To complete your flat tow setup, you will need either a 4-way or 6-way round electrical connector on the front of your vehicle and a power cable to plug into the RV. Pick up a Roadmaster kit (RM-164-7 or RM-146-7 - sold separately) if you're still missing these important components.

very nice unit. Easy to install and top quality product
Good advise, Ordered...delivered on time..the best
Locally shop installed. It just works. Boring, and boring is good.
Easy install, even easier to hookup, and looks great when not in use / barely know it's there.
Video (2020 Equinox) easy to follow. Passenger side wiring was TIGHT after making the butt connection from the light wiring TO the diode pack. I suggest adding additional wiring to this junction before connecting to the diode pack. Good use of GREEN wiring in kit, pay attention to video.
This was purchased as a gift and he LOVES IT
Video explained well how to install. Very happy with install. Works!

Same as my first review: It was professional installed. It works as describe no issues
Very fast and free shipping.
Installed on my MK7 VW GTI that I tow behind my coach. Took about 2 hours and worked as expected. The instructions are comprehensive but easy to follow.
Very good installation it does an awesome job
I installs this in a couple of hours. Your videos are great help in making installing easier.
Nice wiring kit. Running the wire through the Chevy Spark took a bit of time, but it works nicely.
Extremely impressed I ordered a wiring harness on a Thursday afternoon expecting it it be delivered on Monday we had changed our travel plans to delay our departure untilTuesday However almost miraculously the part was delivered by 8 am the next morning allowing it to be installed the same day I could not believe it and am extremely impressed at their efficiency
Smart diodes worked well with my 2023 Chevy Trailblazer. Only two diodes required vs. four that were required in my previous setup on an different vehicle.
The staff at etrailer, talked thru and helped put every part I needed into my cart to install my Blus-Ox tow bar…thx
Great prices and even better service.
Installation is Easy & Clear. The most challenging part is getting the Fascia Quarter panels to separate from the clips. I found that there is an additional identical screw a little deeper behind the one that is instructed to remove. If both screws are removed - fascia doesn't have to be tugged on and it easily releases itself without breaking any clips. The Safety Cables are not easily routed away from the belt on the passenger side but there are three factory holes in the body that they can be secured to help keep clear from the belt.
Have not installed yet, but everything is as described. Very fast and efficient shipping. Outstanding company to deal with.
This kit worked out great for my 2022 Chevy Equinox. I like how it has separate side plates, which make it easier to attach the main bar. The points where it attaches to the frame seem plenty secure. It is important to watch the videos provided by etrailer as Ryan is very thorough and has good tips for installing. I would also recommend installing additional wiring while having the front end off. Overall, I was able to complete in my driveway. The hardest part was sorting out the wiring for whatever braking and tail lights you decide on. William S helped me pick all the necessary components needed for flat towing behind my Jayco RV. I am looking forward to a summer of camping and having more freedom to explore the area, now having a car.
2018 Chevy Equinox LT, 1.5L Turbo. Product works perfectly and has for the last year. Always use etrailer.com to get it right. Tried to get the right products as a kit, but that was a total mess as the kits didn't even come close to what I needed. Called etrailer to get their expert opinion and it was great! For example, just for electric it took 3 different packages for the wiring. I also ordered the Blue Ox towing hardware including the car install and the tow bar. Used their videos for all the installations. Would not have gone well at all without their knowledge. Thanks etrailer!
The order was processed and delivered in a timely manner in good shape. Wiring will be installed during the installation of the base plate also ordered from trailer.
The installation videos were great and made the install on my "23 Equinox much easier.
The exchange of diodes, which was my mistake, was a smooth transition.
Thanks for great sevice!
