Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring RM-146-7 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number RM-146-7. This is the RoadMaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit. It's going to allow you to easily and effectively connect your motor home to your towed vehicle. The adapter cord can be used for multiple towing applications but it is going to be perfect for running power from your RV with the 7-blade plug to your towed vehicle or trailer with the 6-pole round plug. You can see here that the plugs have the easy grip, finger-pull tabs on it. It's going to make for very easy disconnecting. The Flexo-coil cord can expand more than 8' yet it's still going to contract to prevent dragging and tangling. The coil feature of the cord also makes it very easy to put the cord into storage.

It's going to have silicone-injected plugs that are going to prevent corrosion. The electrical cord is resistant to water, oil and chemicals. It's got a nice protected coating that goes around the wires. Now internally it's going to feature 14 and 16 gauge internal wires. It's going to come with a socket to mount to the towed vehicle side. You can see here all you got to do is remove the rubber sleeve and see the connections that you can make and then it's going to mount to the towed vehicle. It's got a spring-loaded lid on it that way it's going to remain close when not connected to prevent any dust or moisture from being able to affect the connection points.

It's going to come with the socket to mount to the towed vehicle side, as well as the mounting bracket. It also comes with some hardware. The hardware is going to be designed to mount the bracket to the towed vehicle. Also keep in mind that Flexo-Coil cords are not intended for use with RoadMaster All Terrain tow bars or any other tow bar that includes cable channel guides. Only straight cords should be used with those models. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RM-146-7. This is the RoadMaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit. .

Wired up the 6 wire receptacle in place of the flat 4 plug and mounted to the base plate. Looks great. Checked that wires from MH match this for proper operation. 619331

The coiled cord is a much better product than the straight cable supplied with my tow bar assembly. This allows for a straight run from the RV to the towed vehicle. The original had to be routed through channels and when being moved could easily pull the wires out of the connection. 481737

Product Review: This is my second set of this kit. Setting up another TOAD. Very easy to install. Nice screw terminals with big enough holes for appropriate cable gauges. Everything you need is included. Even nuts/bolts. Yes, I could have just ordered the receptacle for my second TOAD, but having a second cable as a spare is not such a bad idea ;) Site Review: E-trailer is super easy to navigate. Easy to check out via CC or paypal...and you get follow up emails. No chasing after tracking numbers or order status' ... All diagrams and product data is available. If it isn't they'll get it for you ASAP. Top notch service IMO. 107293

Came in within a week (Value shipping) The only thing was the 6 wire female plug was very difficult to fit into the male end the provided for the vehicle and require having to force it on and off a couple of times to work it in so that it would go far enough to have the catch on the cap retain it in place. As for the wire it self, it is a little lighter weight than most but works just fine. 382696

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector or Tow Bar Wiring Harness to Charge Battery on a 1994 Ford Mustang
If you are looking for a tow bar wiring harness for the front of your 1994 Ford Mustang that plugs into a 7-Way then I have a solution though there are no custom fit wiring harnesses available. You can use a magnetic kit such as # C-ATL20A. But instead of using the 4-Way flat at the front you would need to instead wire in a 6-Way using # RM-146-7. The 7-Way end will plug into the RV. The other end will plug into the 6-Way that you will mount at the front of the Mustang. The wires from...

  • Does the Battery Have to be Disconnected to Flat Tow a 2015 Chevy Suburban Behind a Motor Home
The battery should be disconnected because your 2015 Chevy Suburban has some feature that draws power when the vehicle key is in the towing position indicated in the owner's manual. If you leave the battery connected then what will happen is the battery will drain unless you stop frequently enough to let the Suburban motor run so the alternator can charge the battery back up. But there is a way to provide a maintenance charge to the vehicle battery when flat towing it with the battery...

  • Is the Roadmaster 7-Way to 6-Way Connection Cable Waterproof?
The Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit # RM-146-7 is a water resistant cable, but it is not waterproof because of the electrical connections. The connections will stand up to extreme rain without issue, but are not designed to be completely submerged. Using dielectric grease like # 11755 will help keep moisture and debris out of the connections as well, but won't allow the connections to be submerged. Many people that use this kit will also use the Roadmaster Battery Charge...

  • Tow Bar Wiring Recommendation for Roadmaster All-Terrain Tow Bars
For the all terrain tow bars the non-coiled wires are recommended since the arms telescope and the all-terrain bars come with guides. But if you really wanted to use the # RM-146-7 with an all-terrain bar you can technically still do it. A better recommendation would be the # RM-98146-7 as this is a straight cord. However, I attached a picture that shows the # RM-146-7 being used with the Falcon 2 Tow Bar part # RM-520 which is an all-terrain tow bar.

  • Connecting 12 Volt Power From RV to Battery on 2010 GMC Sierra through 7-Way to 6-Way Cable
I can explain how to attach a wire from the 6-Way connector in Roadmaser kit # RM-146-7 to the battery on your 2010 GMC Acadia. The center pin on the 6-Way is the 12 volt circuit. Attach one end of a wire to the back of that 6-Way, center pin. Then route the wire in such a way that it does not make contact with any hot or moving parts under the hood. Route the wire over to the positive battery terminal and attach it to a free stud with a ring terminal. For wire you can use # 12-1-1,...

Yes, it is possible to use a 7-way to 6-way coil cable to connect between your RV and your 2016 Ford Focus Hatchback. You will need the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit, # RM-146-7. Once you have the Roadmaster Universal Diode Wiring Kit, # RM-154, installed, the front 4-flat plug can be cut and removed. The 4 wires are then wired into the 6 pin connector. The connector is installed on the front of the focus. The Flex-Coil cable can be installed between the 6 pin connection...

  • Can Battery on 2015 GMC Terrain be Charged While Flat Towing it Behind a Motor Home
Check the owners manual for the vehicle you intend to flat tow because you may or may not have to disconnect the battery to flat tow it. If you do not then it is possible that there is some feature that could drain the battery while in tow. And of course if you do have to disconnect the battery it would not drain. You can definitely use the Roadmaster # RM-146-7 over the Blue Ox # BX88206 even if you have a Blue Ox base plate kit/tow bar setup. The only time that you need to use specific wiring is when the wiring is built-in to the tow bar.
