Updated 03/09/2026 | Published 03/01/2026

Question:

I am replacing my TOAD, which is a 2015 Jeep, with a 2025 Bronco OUTERBANKS and would like a detailed list of what I need for the new car, reusing as much of what I currently have. I plan to remove as many of the reusable components from the jeep, but not the wiring. Current setup: 2013 Jeep wrangler with base plate and adapters see picture Blue Ox: Blue Ox Avail BX7420. Brake: Even brake with remote All car to RV cables. New Car: 2025 Bronco Outer Banks

Hey Don, thanks for the detailed parts breakdown and for the pictures. That really helps, and I can definitely help. You already have a good bit of gear, and we'll be able to re-use most of what you have.

You'll need a new base plate for your Bronco. That and a diode wiring kit for the taillights with a 6-pin plug and charge line kit.

It looks like you have all the pieces of the Even Brake system. I don't see anything missing but definitely let me know if you don't have all the cables wires and such. You should be good there though.

You're good on tow bar and safety cables too. Here's a full list of everything else you'll need:

- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BLU23XR

- Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RO44FR

- Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25

- RoadMaster 6-Wire Trailer Connector - Vehicle End # RM-910030-7

Keep in mind, the diode kit I mentioned is for vehicles with LED lights. If you have incandescent lights you'll need part # RO94FR instead. Depending on the base plate height and the height of the hitch on your RV you may need a drop hitch like part # BLU28XR. A height difference of more than 3" will require a drop hitch.

What kind of motorhome do you have?

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

I believe there tow systems where you can use the existing tow hooks rather than having to cut out the bumper. In regard to towing the Bronco be sure to follow the instructions in detail. I did not and it cost me $8k for a new transmission.

@JayJ Using the tow hooks for flat towing is tricky because there usually isn't a good way to attach a tow bar to them. Also, tow hooks typically aren't rated for long-distance towing. They are really for recovery only. I have heard of people using them on older trucks where there isn't a custom base plate option. If there is a custom base plate available, that's definitely the way to go.

I installed the BO base plates on a 2023 Big Bend. Removed the bumper and stock tow hooks. Holes didn’t exactly match so had to do some drilling. Cut a hole in the plastic trim for BO removable arms. Ran wires from the 7 pin on motorhome to a 6 pin on toad including lights, signals, power and brake. Ran wires from the 6 pin to magnetic lights and to Delta Force brake. Ran power to toad battery from the 6 pin through a diode. The motorhome 7 pin is connected through a stock coiled cable to the six pin on the toad. The wires from the 6 pin to the magnetic lights, power and brake are a homemade wire harness that is removable when I get back home. I’ll share a wiring diagram if interested.

I have a '22 Bronco with the Modular Bumper and I'm using the BLU23XR Baseplate Kit. It's easy to use and works great. Originally, I thought I might be able to use adapters on the tow rings, but don't try it. Those things are not bolted on very good at all. Spend the $$ & time installing the BLU23XR. I also have the Blue Ox Avail tow bar, and it works perfectly with this base plate kit.

@Steve Hey Steve, good call going with a custom base plate and not using the tow hooks. A lot of times the tow hooks aren't actually rated for flat towing. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Don- I installed the BlueOx base plates on my 2023 Outerbanks in Nov 2023. Much easier than the BO baseplate I installed on the Grand Cherokee that I traded for the Bronco. As I recall, you must remove the OEM tow hooks (not reuseable on your Bronco) and then cut a rectangular opening in the OEM tow hook mounting plate. Using a vice, drill holes at the 4 corners and then cut hole-to-hole with a cutoff saw. It's mild steel and cuts like butter. The BO baseplates slide thru these holes, into the Bronco frame and easily bolt in. Install the base plate safety cables to the frame also. I was a bit leery about the Diode install for my LED tail lights but no problem. The battery charge line is essential as the Bronco brakes are electronically controlled and require a constant 12V source (rather than vacuum operated). Your are smart to work with E-Trailer as they are the best supllier to work with- super helpful. I see that Jesse has already provided great advice. Love our Bronco compared to previous Jeeps; very easy to put in Tow mode; (Make sure you never forget to put it in Tow mode). We have towed it from NM to Maine and to CA with zero issues. Easy hookup and disconnect. We also use the Blue OX Shield that mounts on the tow bar. Safe travesl!

@ZaneA This is awesome, Zane. Thanks for taking the time to share all that detail. That’s super helpful info for anyone installing base plates on a Bronco. Sounds like you’ve got the setup dialed in perfectly, and I’m glad the diode kit and charge line worked out smoothly for you. I love hearing you've towed coast to coast without issues, that's what I'm talking about! Also, thanks for the kind words. They are appreciated!

I resear hed the existing tow hook vs baseplate a lot. You definitely want the baseplate kit as the factory tow hooks are only using part of the frame horn for support. The baseplate kit comes with additional bolts and another hole must be drilled to utilize the entire frame end

@WesC Hey Wes yes you are absolutely right. The tow hooks are really only for recovery and aren't rated for flat towing. A base plate is definitely the best call.
