A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Today we're gonna take a look at the Peterson oblong trailer clearance light with reflector in amber. This is going to be a great replacement or upgrade to your current trailer's clearance light. It's going to have that amber lens, so it's going to act as our side marker or clearance light, and this is going to have an easy-to-replace lens that also acts as a reflector. So it's gonna help to reflect the light as well as allow our light from our bulb to come through. And to remove the lens, it's pretty easy, you just take a flat-bladed screwdriver, place it into the little slot there that's going all the way around the edge, turn it about a quarter to a half turn, and it pops right off. So pretty easy to remove. Now we do have replacement parts for this, so if this ever becomes damaged, you can pop that off and replace it with a new one. Inside, you'll see are bulb and housing.
This is going to be a single-wire design light, so that basically means we just have one wire that we need to run to our power source. And then the light is going to sit on this plate that's going to act as the ground. That plate runs to one of our mounting holes, so when you put your hardware through there, mount it onto the frame or your trailer or wherever you're mounting this to, it will ground-out the light. So one wire for our power, the ground is gonna come from one of our mounting screws, so pretty easy there. We'll have our bulb already installed. That's going to be a 149 type, 12-volt power bulb.
This is rated for 2,500 hours, so should last for a long time. Whenever you need a bulb replacement, it's easy to place that bulb, as well. You just pull it out of its little housing carefully, and you can replace that bulb. We also have replacements for the bulb as well as the lens available here at etrailer.com.The housing just snaps back into place, so pretty easy to install. Again, we'll have our two mounting holes in the back.
Those are gonna be 3 inches apart, from center to center. The light overall is going to measure 4-and-an-eighth long, and it's gonna be 2 inches wide. And measure 1-and-one-32nd of an inch deep.I'll show you what it's going to look like whenever we have it hooked up. Hook up our power wire, and then we can place here our ground to that mounting hole where we have our plate. Turn on our power.
You'll see we get our power there. Go ahead and turn off the lights in the studio so you can get an idea of how bright that light is going to be. As you can see, we get good, constant light. It's gonna be a very bright light, but also you see that reflecting capability of the lens, so it's gonna help to keep us safe, even in the dark. This is gonna be compliant with all DOT standards, and we do have a couple little notches in the light to allow our wiring to go through so it can sit flush against the trailer, or wherever you choose to mount it.And that's gonna do it for our look at the Peterson oblong trailer clearance light with reflector in amber.

4-1/16" x 2-1/16" Oblong. Incandescent trailer ligth serves as a clearance or side marker light. Built-in reflex reflecor. Durable molded plastic base. Surface mount - hardware not included. 1-Wire design. P2 rated. (1) 194 bulb. The pop up trailer I purchased was missing the amber light covers. I had to purchase the whole light for the lens but it beats rewiring the trailer.
I just received the products. I am trying to decide what size rivets I need, for each item. I wish I had asked you this before I bought them. For the clearance lights, I believe I will need a 5/16 " head, 9/16" length, and 5/32" width rivets. For tail lights I believe I will need 3/8 " head, 5/16" length, and 5/32 to 6/32" width rivets. What do you recommend?
I hooked up my trailer which had been sitting for a year to get ready for inspection. At first only 5 of 22 to lights came on. They were dim. If I put flashers on one of 2 came on and the other lights were flashing also. I tried to clean light bulbs and moved them around. Some times if I moved the wires the lights would come on for awhile. I also cleaned the trailer connection. Finally got 6 of 8 inside lights to work, none of the 8 side clearance lights would work. 3 on the rear did work, along with the license plate light. The tails lights would come on and flash, but brake lights would not come on. Thus I decide to replace all the outside Adam horse trailer lights. To see if this will resolve all the issues.
If replacing the lights does not work, I will need hire someone to rewire the trailer. I have had it since 1994.
The last three years I have had to replace a few light bulbs or wiggle a few light bulbs or wires. Got them to work.
I will let you know when I get the lights replaced, if this resolves the issues. Please let me know the rivet sizes I need. It appears I need 2 different widths for clearance lights. The ground hole seems to 1/16 " smaller in width then the other connection whole.
I presume I will need to drill the old rivets out or grind them down.
I can not submit a rating until I get them installed.
Thanks.
Replacing vintage RV trailer lights no longer available. These are a close match but needed to add a 2nd wire with terminal to mounting screw to complete connections. Do not want to rely on mounting screw for grounding.

This has been a long term, part-time restoration project and has not been made roadworthy yet.
Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. If I need to replace any more I now know where to go to. Thanks!
Good service Excellent shipping
We actually only needed the lenses, but the price for the entire light was reasonable and worked as needed on our boat trailer.
We appreciated the precise dimensions and sketch of the lights when selecting the right ones for our application.
Took me only a few minutes to order and a few days for it to arrive!! It fits perfectly and I know where to come each time one of our employees breaks a light on the trucks!! Great products!! Fast shipping!!

Still I’m great shape! No fading or cracks! Awesome product!!
This is the same light I have on another trailer. This is a good size for a marker light and the price is very reasonable.
I had four side marker lights on my travel trailer broken one night in an RV park thanks to some useless scum teeny-slimers with apparently nothing to do but destroy other peoples property. The side markers I ordered were in hopes the existing screw holes would match. When the ordered parts arrived and compared to the existing Optronics lights, a perfect match! So much so that I felt inclined to pull the broken lens off the Optronics light and try the Peterson to see if it would fit. Viola! It does. Did not have to change/wire anything! Just popped off the remains of the original lens and pop on the magnificent part received from etrailer! Now I have spare light fixtures AND lamps! And enough spare time to finish off the bottle of wine I had reserved for this effort.
Lights have one wire and use screw to ground to body. Difficult to find these.
Lenses were real good quality. Fast shipping. Good place to get your trailer supplies!
Exactly what I ordered and fast to ship
Just what I needed and at a better price than all the others.
Couldn't find these anywhere, easy to order fast delivery.alot of companies only have newer lights.i have a1993 allegro bay rv.

Thank you for your review. The holes in the light for mounting are a quarter inch inside diameter. That should help you get started with finding the correct rivets. The length of the rivets depends on the thickness of the trailer wall. Since the light grounds through the hardware you will need metal rivets.
