Peterson 135A Oblong Clearance Marker Light Dimensions

PC-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for PC rated light

A PC-rated light produces a 90-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light, as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side marker light.

Surface-Mount Light

Surface Mount Trailer Light Installation Diagram

Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Video Transcript for Peterson Amber Oblong Trailer Clearance Light Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take a look at the Peterson 00:00:00 amber oblong two bulb trailer clearance light. Part number is 425200.Here's what our light's gonna look like installed. As you can see, this is a dual bulb setup, so it's gonna give us plenty of intensity in our lights. Has a nice acrylic lens here, so even if it gets hit with a few things, we shouldn't have to worry about scratching or chipping.I also like how the lens clips on. It seemed to have a very positive feel as it clipped on, and all the way around, there's that raised edge, so it's gonna seal it and help prevent any moisture or dirt from getting inside. Now, over all, the light is gonna be 4 1/8 inch wide. From top to bottom, it's gonna be 2 inches tall, and from your mounting surface to the outermost edge of the lens, it's about an inch and 1/32nd.Now, in this particular light, they use what's called a vibar 00:00:46 socket.

You can see it allows a little bit of flexibility on our bulb there. That's to help to protect that filament, so we're not gonna have to worry about changing the bulbs as often. Now, this is an incandescent light, and it's gonna act as a standard replacement for most lights of this size. Typically, what you're gonna do is if you're just replacing one light, we're seeing most of our customers just go with a replacement incandescent such as this. If you're revamping your trailer, though, we recommend switching over to an LED style light. They last much longer.

You don't have bulbs that you have to replace. They use less power, so you're not gonna be drawing so much to get all the lights on your trailer lit up. And over all, I think they offer a cleaner and brighter light. So just something there to keep in mind. Now, the installation process is gonna, of course, begin with your old light removed. You'll want to have your wires exposed.

Now, this is designed to work as what they call kind of a single wire setup, so if you're mounting it to metal . This is fiberglass, but if you're mounting it to metal, you're just gonna connect that to your power wire coming from your running lights. This being your two wire system, we'll show you how to hook it up. It's not that much more involved that just a single wire. We're gonna strip the wire on our light back just a little bit. I always like to twist this, just so it give us a nice solid ...

Almost like a solid core wire. We'll place on a butt connector. It's a heat shrink. I like using these, just because it gives you superior corrosion resistance. Once we get it shrank down, there's no chance water or dust can get in there and cause corrosion down the road. And we'll connect that right to our power supply wire, again from the running lights. All right. Now, we'll use a heat source to shrink that down. You can use a mini torch. I just typically use a lighter. Or you can use a heat gun. The key is not to overheat it. You just want to give it gentle heat. Now, if you're gonna do a single wire setup, at this point, you're ready to attach it. Your ground is gonna be connected by your fastener, through this metal tab that sticks out right here. And in our situation, since we're running a two wire system, we want to bring our second wire, which is our ground wire, through. Then I'm gonna add on a ring terminal. That will provide the ground connection we need there. So this light's gonna work out well, whether you've got a single or double wire setup. That crimped on.And we just need to align that ring terminal with our ground holder. Then we can use our original hardware that we removed to reattach our light. Remember, this isn't gonna come with any hardware, so you do need to use your other stuff. Now, with the base securely attached to our trailer, we're just gonna take our lens, get it lined up, and push firmly to snap it into position. Now, to ensure your light's working properly, you'll want to hook it up to your towing vehicle and turn on the running lights. And as you can see, it's working just fine. And that will complete our look at the Peterson amber oblong trailer clearance light, part number 425200.

  • Replacement Clearance Light for Old Horse Trailer
  • On trailer lights the actual part number for the entire light assembly will be found on the light's base. Sometimes the lens will have other reference numbers that are not the actual part number for the entire light. Based on my research the reference 106 15 pertains to an oval red light lens. You can refer to the linked page which shows you all of our oval trailer lights. You can simply click on the filters on that page to choose the light style (a clearance light, for example), the...
