Fit up perfectly. Split the old nuts using a right angle grinder with a cutting wheel. Heated the spring enough to soften the plastic bushing and allow the bolt to be pounded out with a hammer. I used an 11/16 drill bit to remove rust and debris from spring end and used a c-clamp to press in the new bronze bushing. Everything else went together like the instructions said. Attached a before and after photo. 673027

Being that these are fully grease able they will definitely outlast the stock ones. I grease them once a month and there is no signs of wear so far 933704

Parts were one day late from perspective date. but did arrive following day pkg a little banged up but all contents were inside. (parts box should have been packed inside another box to protect small parts loss and damage) all parts were in there. Quality of the parts appears to be excellent, bronze bushings and grease-able pins makes this a great choice for long life 911491

I like the heavy duty shackle links to replace the original shackles the original ones are too lite duty for 8000 lb axles 859129

These parts are GREAT. The links are super heavy and the ability to grease them is wonderful. The bronze bushings are very superior to the plastic ones. A few folks complained about having to remove the tires to access the grease fittings. I just installed mine to the inside so all I have to do is crawl under the trailer (or get a kid to do it) and it only takes a few minutes. 858701

Ran these over ice and snow on I-40 from Tucumcari to Albuquerque and didn't loose anything inside. If your shackles are rusted and can't be lubed this is the fix for you. Replaced these on a 2003 Mobile Suites fifth wheel. 727102

Easy to work with, good fit and pleased with quality. Only downside, and it is minor, is that the straight zerks need to be replaced with 90's. The tires do not permit access to straight zerks. Parts are holding up well. 707216

etrailer- I cant say thank you enough Finally, someone sells a product that is done right. Within 9 months of purchasing a brand new twin 5200 lb tandem axle trailer, i lost an axle due to light flimsy spring shackles that wore through ( no way to grease them either) .I have been towing tandem trailers for the past 30 years, always having undercarriage issues (hangers and equalizers by other companies wearing through one being cheaper and thinner than the next. These are truly Heavy Duty... I can now travel down the road feeling confident that my leaf springs and axles are strong, sturdy and over engineered. etrailer was the only one i found that sold truly Heavy Duty Hardware that is truly over engineered and realistically, under priced... Thanks again etrailer 703385

Ask the Experts about this Dexter Axle Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • How To Choose the Correct Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit for Tandem-Axle Trailers
I don't have any information as to what leaf springs are on any one particular trailer such as a 2007 Jayco Jay Flight 29BHS but if they are double eye leaf springs which are the most common then we should have a Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit for Tandem-Axle Trailers that will work. In order to choose the correct one you just need to make note of the equalizer dimensions; part # K71-449-00 for 7-3/4" long, part # K71-448-00 for 6" long, or part # K71-359-00 for 5-3/4" long.

  • Difference Between Dexter Axle Heavy Duty Suspension Kits # K71-449-00 and # K71-359-00
The difference is the length of the equalizers that come with the kit. The part # K71-449-00 comes with equalizers that are 7-3/4 inches from eye to eye whereas the part # K71-359-00 has equalizers that are 2 inches shorter at 5-3/4 inches.

That said, if you are looking for a true upgrade I recommend going with the Dexter E-Z Flex Suspension Kit part # K71-653-00 since the cushioned equalizers will do a far better job of helping to reduce road shock. These options are both designed for the 35" axle spread.

  • Can 3-1/8 Inch Heavy Duty Shackle Straps be Used in Dexter Heavy-Duty Trailer Suspension Kit
All of the tandem axle hanger kits for double-eye springs use 2-5/8 inch or 2-1/4 inch long shackle straps. The length is taken from the center of one eye to the center of the other eye. The overall length of a 2-5/8 model is just under 3-1/2 inches. The overall length of a 2-1/4 model is 3-3/8 inches.

  • Will Upgrading Trailer Suspension Stop Tires from Blowing Out
Before spending a lot of money on a trailer overhaul let's first look at the reasons tires blow. Basically, trailer tires blow from excessive heat or overloading. Excessive heat can come from running the tires faster than they are rated for, under inflating the tires, or because something is off with the suspension. Make sure that you are within the capacity of the tires and that they are inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tires. This is because trailer tires are built with...

  • How Tight Should Shackle Straps and Bolts Be Tightened On Trailer
There is no specific torque rating for shackle bolts. Basically for the middle bolt there should be enough free play in the shackles to allow them to move. Tightening the shackle bolts too much will squeeze the shackle straps against the leaf springs and the whole suspension system will bind and cause problems. The best thing to do when tightening down shackle bolts is to use lock nuts and tighten them until they are snug and then backed off 1/4 turn. Lock nuts should be used because...

Basically the longer hanger compensates for the shackle straps so as long as the leaf spring eyes are level you would be totally fine. In general shackle bolts turning from use over time does not considerably wear out components.
