Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub-and-drum assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs and drums undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub with Integrated Drum - 8-219-50 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter 12" galvanized trailer hub-and-drum assembly for 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles has an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. Now, this is a marine grade hub and drum assembly that'll fit axles with drum brakes. It does include both the outer and inner bearing races already pre-installed, does require the inner and outer bearings, the grease seal, the grease cap and lug nuts for installation, those we do sell separately on our website and are listed on this product page with the correct part number that you need. This hub-and-drum assembly has a nice galvanized zinc plating to it, has a 500 hour salt spray rating. It's ideal for use on a boat or snowmobile trailer, and it is durable enough for saltwater applications. This is designed to work with 12" by 2" electric and hydraulic brake assemblies. The application on this, again, is 5,200 pounds, 6,000 pound and 7,000 pound axles.

Weight capacity on just one of these hub-and-drums is 3,500 pounds, so when it's used with one on the other side of the axle it'll meet your 7,000 pound maximum trailer axle capacity. Bolt pattern, again, is an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. The wheel stud size is a 1/2" by 12". Just want to measure the drum inside diameter just to give you an idea. Inside diameter is 12", and the width on it is 2-1/4".

That should do it for the review on the Dexter 12" galvanized trailer hub-and-drum assembly for 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles with the 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

  • Recommended Electric Brakes For Timbren Axle-Less System And Dexter Trailer Hub/Drum
The electric brakes I recommend to use with the Trailer Hub/Drum, part # 8-219-50 and the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension, part # ASR35HDS02 is the Dexter 12 inch Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, part # 23-459 for the right hand side. For the left hand I recommend part # 23-458. The mounting hardware for the brake systems is not included. You will need part # 38LW, part # 38N, and part # 7-5. For each brake you will need 5 of each.

  • Recommended Brake Assemblies and Hub/Drum Assemblies for 7,000 lb Axle
With the 7,000 lb axle capacity and the bearings you gave, I can give you what will fit your trailer regardless of brand name. For your trailer brake assemblies, I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA. These assemblies will need adjustment only at initial install and then will adjust as needed to optimize your braking performance. For your hub/drum assemblies, I recommend the Dexter Trailer Hub and...

  • Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System with Lift for Single 5200-lb Axle Trailer
Timbren axle-less trailer suspension # TASR5200S03 is rated for 5200-lb applications, has 4-inch lift spindles and includes brake flanges. With this kit you can use 8-on-6-1/2 bolt pattern hub/drums that use inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123 or # LM67048. You can use galvanized hub/drum # 8-219-50. For electric brakes you can use left- and right-hand kit # AKEBRK-7-SA which are self-adjusting and that work with 14-1/2, 15, 16, and 16-1/2-inch wheel diameters. Some trailers...

  • Fit and Compatibility of Drum/Hub on # 42 Spindle
The # 14125A bearing has different applications than a # 15123 bearing. The outer diameters are different. Which is why the # AKHD-865-7-2-K will not work on your #42 spindle. If you have a # 15123 bearing then you would need that same bearing as a replacement. The only hub and drum with a 8 on 6-1/2 bolt patter that will work for an inner bearing of # 25580 and outer bearing of # 15123 is the # 8-219-50. This hub and drum will be compatible with 12x2 inch electric and hydraulic brake...
