Solution for Trailer Hitch Bolts that Seem to Big to Thread In

Question:

Finally got around to trying to install this on my 2008 Matrix. It included 4 M12-1.25 30mm bolts. They will not thread into the holes. I have cleaned out the rust and oiled the holes. It appears that they should be M11-1.25 30mm instead. Please advise

We get this question pretty often and while it may seem like the threads are too small the real fix is to use a thread tap with the M12 size and they'll thread in. This happens frequently on vehicles that have a few winters on them.
