Had bought a Reese universal fit from a local pars store….wasn’t a big fan of the way it fit and hung down. Ordered a Curt it was a direct fit, so much better

1996 Jeep Cherokee

Surprisingly fast shipping during this pandemic. Once we got it my son and I had it installed in about an hour. He can't wait to tow our offroad trailer. Thanks for such great service and a great product.

DAVID C - 04/09/2021

Works great. Had it professionally installed because it had to be drilled to fit the hitch mount. A local tire store installed it for $50. I am very happy with it although the hitch insert rattles a bit on rough roads. I normally remove the hitch/pin when not in use. It attaches very easy and removes easy.

Just like new except some chips in paint, its still the same!

1996 Jeep Cherokee

First and foremost; We would like to thank you etrailer! My wife and I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. After careful planning, we decided to order a custom trailer hitch as described by the etrailer. I'm so glad we chose to go this route because the installation was a breeze just like your installation videos said it would be. Thank you so much and we are very pleased with your product. If anyone is unsure about this product, we definitely recommend you try it out.

No issues with installation other than I had to notch the bumber a bit on my 2001 Jeep XJ. The hitch has been on about 9 months and the finish still looks new. Overall I am happy with my purchase.

2000 Jeep Cherokee

this is open a 2000 cherokee sport The back hitch was great went right up and all was nice fit just don't take off the bumpier the hitch hides the nuts and make it even harder to get off and on same with the front hitch and you can't put the bottom piece on but of then that it went right up the times they have are after you take the bolts and nuts off and clean it all then you can put them in at that time I broke two in the front and one in the back I had to weld a nut on to them to get them out

P.S. the wiring harness is a must have very clean instill with it no cut wires I love that

Better than i expected.. And i was very suprised on how quick i recived this towing hitch. I would very much recommend you to someone who is looking for one. Thank you. Tommy m

1997 Jeep Cherokee

This baby fits PERFECTLY. I have never bought a part from anybody else that worked so well. The video showed how to install it, no worries. My little 5'2" wife helped me. The only difference was the nuts. They were not the type shown in the video. I got regular flat washers with lock washers and regular nuts. I figured that out. hahah! I would buy this again. Great product. Thanks.

I received the hitch very quickly and decided not to wait for a second set of hands to help me install it. I don't have access to a lift, so I just back the Jeep up onto a set of ramps, which gave me plenty of room to work. The bolt leader made the install go pretty smoothly and I just supported the hitch on a set of jack stands. Easy enough to line up the bolts. 40 minute install time might be a little misleading... I'd say give yourself a good 90 minutes just in case you run into any snags.
Watching the install video was very helpful as well.
I also purchased the wiring harness and that was also an easy install.
Great product... fast shipping... fairly simple install... one happy customer. THANKS!

1997 Jeep Cherokee

This is my 3rd hitch from etrailer and another great transaction & install. Easily saves 2-3 times of what it would cost to have it done at a shop. The first 2 hitches were installed on newer vehicles, but this recent hitch was installed on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee. The online videos are a lifesaver! The weld nuts on the old Jeep were rusted really bad, but in the video they explain the best way to clean them out and it works. Their wiring kits are fool-proof & super easy to install. I'll continue to use etrailer for all my towing needs.

Thanks for the pictures. The design of the hitch with the 4 bolts was unclear how the 4th bolt went on until your picture of the bolt going thru the muffler hanger bracket, thank you so much.

Hitch has been rock solid for a year now
Steve M - 05/26/2016

Great product, good installation instructions, and excellent customer service!

It was a while before getting the hitch on my Jeep as I decided to get the Jeep painted first. A nice fit, the hitch bolted up easily. (first replacing the 23 year old nuts). I mostly tow a light canoe trailer.

1996 Jeep Cherokee

I'm very happy with this hitch. Shipping was quick, price was great, and the hitch was easy to install by myself. I watched the installation video and followed the process. I was most impressed that the holes on the hitch matched exactly with the holes in my car's frame and the process to pull bolts through the frame worked perfectly. Ready to go fishing??

Hitch is great 1 year later. No rust or loose parts.
Rick - 05/26/2018

1998 Jeep Cherokee

Came with all required hardware and easily installed in my 98 Cherokee. Easier with a friend to help, or using a good floor jack to hold up a side.
Quick ship, well packaged, and working as planned.

The Trailer hitch fit perfectly on my 1988 Jeep Wagoneer. It replaced the old rusted out trailer hitch. The old hitch was awful to get off but the new hitch went on very easy

Fit perfect! Installed almost too easy! Looks great too. Very quality product.

Hitch is working great! I have been pulling everything with ease!
Kyle - 09/20/2021

Great product and service !! Installation video was spot on and everything needed was in kit as shown !! Ordering - shipping - and tracking were all excellent and all anyone could ask for… I’ll be back for sure !

The product is constructed for heavy duty long life. The welds are perfect with attention to detail. I purchased the Curt brand because of the added weight rating and tongue weight rating. I had a problem with a weld nut on the passenger side and Rebecca in customer service was outstanding with her support! George and Rebecca shipped out additional parts to me right away and provided me with a video on how to work around the problem. I have nothing bad to say about my experience. This is the second hitch that I have purchased from eteailer and I will be getting a third for our Volvo XC real soon. Even with the weld nut issue if you have an air compressor and impact sockets you can install the hitch in under an hour. I did not have an extra set of hands, I am disabled so I built a rack out of scrap 2x4's and plywood and used my floor jack to raise the hitch and hold it into place.

1998 Jeep Cherokee

Easy to install I ran into a problem with the bolt on the exhaust heat shield it was seized up had to use a cheater bar to break it loose and back it all the way out.

Jeep Cherokee

I'm a repeat customer for a reason. Great products, excellent instructions, and no hassle installation. The wiring harnesses are plug and play. I'm please with the products I bought for my Ford F150 and Jeep Cherokee.

The Curt trailer hitch still looks and Ive had no issues with the wiring harness.
Gregory H - 11/22/2020

1996 Jeep Cherokee

When I bought my 96 XJ it had everything I wanted, except tow package. The Curt receiver & Curt wiring harness are excellent products. Thanks

This is my second hitch from etrailer. Simple installs with the instructions and supplied mounting hardware. This time I got a hitch and ball mount kit and it couldn't have been any easier. The different ball mount drops fit my trailers nicely.

1998 Jeep Cherokee

I ordered a trailer hitch and accessories for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. The product came the next day. Never expected the hitch to be here so quickly.
Thank you.

Great. No problems. A very useful item.
Melinda - 12/12/2020

Everything fit as described! The hitch arrived a day earlier than promised. The product was cheaper than Uhaul apples to apples. Would recommend etrailer anytime

2000 Jeep Cherokee

The product was delivered and assembled as advertised. It was very helpful to have the video instruction in addition to the paper instructions. My wife and I just moved across the country and carried 2 bikes on a bike carrier off the hitch and we had no complaints.

Very solid product.

  • Installing Curt Class lll Hitch On 1997 Jeep Cherokee
Per the instructions for the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13084, you should use the existing bolts and reinstall them with the included washers. That method is for vehicles equipped with frame mounted, closed sided, steel skid shield. This is noted as Type A in the instructions. For Type B which is 1997 and newer vehicles with the frame mounted, closed sided, steel skid shield. You would reuse the existing M12 bolts but you need to drill holes in the skid shield. If your Cherokee is NOT...

  • Why Would Trailer Hitch Install Bolts Not Thread Into Vehicle Frame Weld Nuts
This is a fairly common problem on vehicles that have seen a few seasons. What ends up happening is that the weld nuts on the vehicle frame end up developing corrosion or collecting dirt and this prevents the bolts from threading in. What you will need to do is clean the threads of the weld nuts and they hardware will thread right in. I attached a help article and video that details how to do this for you to check out.

Curt trailer hitch # 13084 is a custom fit trailer hitch designed specifically to fit certain model year Jeep Cherokees and Wagoneers. I have included a link to a video showing installation of the hitch and the instructions for you. I went out to the warehouse and measured the holes on the hitch. • What is the Tongue Weight Capacity of Curt Trailer Hitch 13084 for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee
Yes, the Curt trailer hitch # 13084 is rated for 500 pounds tongue weight. The hitch under went the standard SAE testing procedures that all hitches go through and has received its rating based on that and its design. Being right at the 500 pound capacity could be trouble. If there is mud on the bike or a miscalculation you would be over the capacity. Easiest way to lighten the load would be to drain the gas in the main tank and remove the battery. Every little bit helps and its better...

  • Tip for Retrieving Lost Bolt in Jeep Frame When Installing Hitch
If you leave the bolt in the frame you most likely wouldn't ever notice that it was there, but there's a small chance you could hear it rattle around. If you have one of those telescoping magnet tools for retrieving lost bolts that may be helpful. It's hard to say what kind of frame access you'd have if you took the bumper off since we've never had to do that.

  • Troubleshooting Difficult to Thread in Hitch Install Bolts
Trailer frame weld nuts notoriously end up with rust in them which makes installing hitch hardware pretty difficult. Often times it seems like the solution is to use smaller hitch hardware but the real solution is to clean out the weld nuts so that the hardware can fit like it needs to. I have included a few links on hitch installation tips, cleaning weld nuts, and a video on cleaning weld nuts for you. Typically the most efficient solution is to get a thread tap to clean the weld nuts.
