Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.I ordered the "visible" Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2003 Mazda B2300 (2003 Ford Ranger Clone). I had read elsewhere that some people may have had a problem with the Curt "hidden" receivers getting in the way of the spare tire and I really don't mind the visible aspect of the receiver at all and I figured this would clear the spare tire easily, which it does. It fits the 2003 Mazda perfect and I didn't have to drill any holes. I installed it by myself so in the course of trying to figure out the best way to get it bolted on first I unwound the spare tire to get it out of the way. No big deal there. It became apparent that the weight of the hitch receiver in addition to the bumper itself was going to be to much to for me to hold up at the same time while I got the nus screwed onto the frame bolts so I first removed the bumper mount brackets completely and then bolted the hitch receiver and bumper bracket to the frame and torqued that down to 110 ft/lbs and then bolted the bumper to the bumper brackets. The whole installation took about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Half of which was just figuring and fiddlin. Shipping time was good. I received the it 3 days past the order date. All around happy with the new solid hitch receiver. The step bumper tongue load capacity on these vehicles are weak to say the least. This frame mounted hitch receiver solved that problem.
Exact fit. The difference from a bumper mounted ball to a frame mounted hitch is amazing. No more bounce, solid ride, and sometimes forget the loaded trailer is there. Allows me to adjust the height, and now my trailer rides flat and level. This is not a paid review, I am a scrapper and I haul tons of heavy metal all week long. You can use any part of this. I believe in word of mouth advertising.
Having installed more than a dozen trailer hitches throughout my life I can say that this was the easiest to install that I have done! Perfect fit, easy to attach with no issues. The hardest part was removing the J-bolt from the frame, and that wasn't that difficult really. I wish all of the hitches I have installed in the past were this easy! Big plus was how fast I got it, a day earlier that expected.
Excellent fit for my 1997 Ford Ranger (6' bed 4cyl). Package arrived in TWO days. Received hitch at 1300hrs and had it installed within 2 hrs! ... and I had to drill the two holes in the frame as mine didn't have the pre-drilled holes. easy-peasy. Bought another brand drom etrailer several years ago for my 2010 Subaru Forrester and it was almost as easy as thisd install. happy camper.
Great hitch. Solid and compact. The hitch was slightly bent on arrival. Could have happened during shipping. I used a bottle jack and some blocks to spread the forward arm. Toughest part was drilling two holes in the pickup frame.
This has been a great add to my 2003 Ford Ranger. I added this at the same time I put on a new rear bumper, and the truck rear is a lot more appealing and usable. Heavy duty hitch receiver, maybe too much for this old Ranger. Very satisfied.
This hitch fits my 96 Ford Ranger quite well. As per the instructions, I had to drill two holes in the frame. It fit and it works. I use it quite often to pull a 5 x 10 ft trailer and large zero turn mower.

Fine. Use it a lot.
I watched videos on [etrailer] YouTube ahead of time and it was a breeze to install. 2 people would be the easy way but I used a floor jack and did it myself.
The hitch installed without a hitch. It took me alone, less than 45 minutes to get it on. Im very happy with my purchase the shipping time and etrailer as a whole. I'm only towing a 10 foot single axel but the stock bumper hitch was already bending my bumper. The new hitch seems very sturdy and will handle my small trailer just fine.
The fit was perfect. Hardware was included and all the bolts lined up easy. Had it installed 25 min.

i am 78 years old cancer survivor with arthritis in wrists and shoulders. My wife is 75 with 2 knee replacements and arthritis in hands and shoulders.
Together we installed the tow hitch on a 2002 Ford Ranger in 1 hour and 10 minutes yep we tightened the bolts to 110 ft lb and this included selecting the tools and stowing them after the job. Great hitch, fast delivery, and great price. Thanks and God bless.
Hitch arrived in 3 days. Directions very clear. One hour start to finish as I did it alone with the help of the truck bottle jack. Much faster if 2 people. Perfect fit and spare tire cranks right back into place.
I purchased this hitch from Curt because I believed they were a high quality manufacturer. The quality of these welds are extremely poor. Bad enough that I’m worried about them. Luckily I purchased this hitch for my ranger before I needed to purchase one for my F350. Learned my lesson. I won’t be buying any more Curt products from this point forward.
It showed up slightly bent (i blame fedex) so I had to do some percussive adjustments with my 8lb sledge but it fit great and tows no problem! It's not particularly heavy but pulled the 2500lbs of gravel no problem!
I have bought 3 or 4 hitches from etrailer, they are a custom fit and very easy to install. Great product at a great price. Very fast shipping, got mine in two days.

Very nice , heavy duty hitch fit my truck perfectly - did not even have to do any drilling . Rigged up a carrier on my Jack and braced my bumper with 2 - 2 ' stepladders, pulled old bolts and lifted hitch into place and bolted on , piece of cake one man operation.

Excellent receiver, easy to install even with having to drill two holes. Only reason I gave a less than excellent review is due to the bolts provided. I would have liked the bolts to be of a higher grade and better manufacture. Bolts made in the USA would have suited me better although the ones provided are of good enough quality for the majority of installations. It only took me about an hour to install the hitch on my 1991 ford ranger and it looks good.

one year later it is working well.
The hitch fit perfect. I bent my bumper up trying to tow a friend out of a mud hole. Looking on line for used bumpers most were pickup only no shipping. It was cheaper to get a brand new trailer hitch. I have a 2002 Ford ranger supercab stepside. this bolted right up to the stock holes in the frame I did not even have to drill any holes. 20 minutes it took me to put on. I call

I got this for my 2005 Ford Ranger. It's just like the hitch they used to put on Rangers as standard equipment. Easy to install once you drop the spare tire. The spare will go back up just fine once you are done. It even fit with an aftermarket dual exhaust system.

I installed this on the front of my 2001 Ranger for using with a Snowbear snowplow. It has worked well for that, but also turned the truck into an invaluable trailer mule. I can now push trailers around when I need to rather than trying to back them into place. If you don't know what I mean, put one of these on the front of your truck and hook a trailer up--you'll see very quickly how handy it is.

Still working great. Use it almost everyday. Bolts have never needed tightening and finish is still good with no rust or discoloration. Very pleased.
