What is the difference between the tube hitch and the straight square hitch and would this be the best choice for my truck?

The difference between the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch part # 13019 and the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch part # 13138 is strictly aesthetics. The square tube option is a bit more cost effective and it matches the body lines on your 1992 Ford Ranger so this is what I recommend.
