Availability Of 2-5/16" High Rise Ball With 2-3/8" Long Shank

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 10/17/2025

Question:

I have an Equalizer 10k hitch. When making sharp turns, the hitch body pinches the trailer safety chains, eventually breaking them. The manufacturer suggested two solutions: relocate the chain mount points, or change the ball with a 1” rise. I’d prefer not to weld on my trailer or drill holes in the chassis, so I’d like to find a ball that will fit. I need a 2-5/16” ball with a minimum 1” rise, 1.25” shank diameter, and a max shank length of 2-3/8”. You have a product that meets these requirements except the shaft length. A longer shaft will block movement of the bars on the hitch. Any suggestions on a hitch that will work? A small diameter shank will move around in the hitch head…

Hey Gary, thanks for reaching out. I am sorry to say we do not have a ball that meets all of your specifications. The closes we have would be the Curt # C40035. This is a 2-5/16" ball, is 10K rated and has a 1.25" diameter shank. The shank is 2-5/8" long though. We do not have anything with a shorter shank. I know its not your first choice to weld, but that might be the most practical option for resolving this issue.

Hey Gary, were you able to find a hitch ball that worked with your Equalizer 10k setup? Knowing what solution you went with could help others dealing with the same clearance issue.
