Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large, aftermarket tires - may require Class S chains.

SAE Class S Clearances

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.

Installation

Installation Step 1

1. Drape the chain over the tire, making sure that the side chain with the lever is on the outside. Drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)

Installation Step 2

2. Reach around behind the tire and fasten the ends of the chain together.

Installation Step 3

3. Move back to the front of the tire and fasten the ends of the chain together using the built-in lever.

Installation Step 4

4. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed by moving the hook to the next link.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Titan Chains Ladder Pattern Tire Chains Installation - 2014 Ford Fiesta

On this 2014 Ford Fiesta we're gong to review and install Titan snow tire chains. Part number TC 1126. This is a class S chain. It is designed for vehicles that have limited clamp between the tire and the body work, and the suspension component behind the tire. Can you see a little bit of a twisted link here. A little bit more detail when it's on the tire, and again this is great for snow and also it gets a good grip on the ice as well. This is a great chain to keep with the vehicle such as when you're on a highway to get yourself out of a jam.

Now this chain does meet DOT approved standards. Now it's a good idea to test this. What we're doing here to make sure you are familiar before you come to Uneel 00:00:44. First of this hook always sits on the outside of the tire, and the smaller hook always goes towards the end of the tire. When you put it onto the tire make sure these two ends are facing towards the front of the car. End of the hooks right here will just point towards the ice and snow, and this side facing towards the tire. These 2 ends right here always stays towards the back of the vehicle when you first put them on.

If you look at this section here called the crossbar. You see the links are twisted, this twist is intentional. It is designed to work in ice and snow conditions. Let's go ahead and put it on our tire now. Let's go ahead and drape it across the top of the tire. Make sure the crossbars are even across the thread of the tire.

It doesn't have to be exact, you can go by feel. Make sure your ends are not tangled up and clamp them down towards the end of the tire. Our first connection probe will be on the inside edge of the tire. It's a good idea to go ahead and turn the tire to one side. Make it easier to have access to. Now we make a connection on the inside, our hook will just clip to the chain like that.

Now I want to take slack, but not too much. Basically we're going to follow the edge of the rim. So let's get into a few links. We'll have a bit of leftover. It's a good idea to keep a few zip ties around as well to secure this to a chain down the road so it's not flying around. We'll do an outside connection, just like we did on the inside, but this long hook actually works as a tensioning lever as well. We'll go ahead through the link here. You want to use the link on the outside as plus 1 and minus 1 on the same link you used on the inside. Anything more than that and you'd probably want to readjust it. Make sure the hook is away from the tire and we're good to go. Now our chain fits really nice as it is but there is a little bit of room for improvement. Manufacture does recommend a separate tensioner to take up the slack. We're gong to use part number TCMA2. This rubber tensioner basically connects to the chain with 6 points of contact. Make sure your hook is away from the tire. Just make sure they're even, all the way around the tire. With the tensioner in place you can see how it pulls down on the links here and here in comparison. This allows the chain to sit as snug as possible to the tire, and with that all finished with a tightened snow tire chains. Part number TC1126 on this 2014 Ford Fiesta.

2015 Honda Fit

Bought for 2015 Honda Fit which I often take places it wasn't meant to go. Shipped and arrived very fast. As advertised. Neatly packed in plastic box easy to store in car. Instructions in box for those of us who don't regularly use chains. Happy with company and product.

My tire chains arrived on time, in good condition. I was able to use them a few days later. I already had the bungie cord tensioners and the directions were fine for me. They worked well. I only wish the shipping was cheaper, but I guess it was a heavy package and i did pick a faster service because I needed them soon.

by:

I used the chain once last year since there were lots of snow at Big Bear Mountain at that time and chain was required first time. Unfortunately the chain was cut off on the way downhill, so we needed to stop immediately at the side road. I thought this chain is the best, yet it was not strong enough I guess... I don’t know why I received an email to review this product a year later. Anyway, I cannot use the chain anymore. I only used once, so this product was bit price for me.

2016 Nissan Versa

Arrive just in time for a snow filled weekend.. looks great and should work out well on my small car (nissan versa). They are thin and lightweight so may not last forever, but that is what you get when you have a small car.

I will update after I actually use them.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I know iron. 17 yrs trucking, mostly doubles across Montana into the Dakotas. Chained up a lot.
Pictures show what you get with this set I bought for my 2005 Tahoe. Heavy gauge chains w/triple cam locks w/long wrench for excellent leverage to get cams tight. Tight cams mean links don't "slap" pavement which causes increased wear. They arrived today so not used yet. However, for my application they will last a lot longer than those cheaper; light gauge, "disposable" chains, use once and throw away after you pay a tow bill.

No opportunity to use them yet.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

Needed these chains for a snowboarding trio this December. Installed them in my yard to make sure they fit, and figure out which link worked best. Now that i know what link to use, next time it should only take sbout 10 min to put them on. I really like how they stay away from my wheels so should not scrstch them. My yard was very soft from recent rain and you can see how well the chains dig into the mud. Should be really good on snow/ice.

Good chains!

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I used these on a 2wd open diff F150 with a camper. The traction difference is amazing! I never lost traction! If you’re on a pass that warns “chains or AWD”, don’t go without chains or off road tires. I puttered along at 30 in the unplowed lane watching a clown in an AWD BMW slide everywhere in the plowed slush, holding up traffic.
Anyway, the chains themselves. I’ve used diamond pattern chains with a cable on the inside and fancy nonsense on the outside before. The cable always collects snow, and the multiple connections on the outside is confusing. These ladder chains were easy and simple to put on and take off. I used tensioner bungees also. You will get a bumpy ride, but it smooths out as you speed up. Anyone that claims ladder chains don’t have lateral grip hasn’t used them and doesn’t understand the physics of why chains help.
Great for going up a pass periodically, but not something I’d use daily.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I've had very positive experience with this company. Last winter I ordered cable-chains from another provider. They weren't up to the task I needed and one set broke pretty quickly. I then ordered a single set (two tires) of chains from etailer to replace the cable-chain that snapped. The purchasing process was seamless, they arrived quickly and they were of very high quality. They took me through the rest of a challenging winter season.

With another winter now approaching, I just ordered a 2nd set so I can install them on all four tires. I won't bother to try to use the cable-chains.

Good company, good product.

All is good so far. Will be going into a 2nd full season with these changes

These chains worked perfectly . Used them on my Tacoma and was able to drive some snow and ice covered non-plowed state forest roads without issue. They were easy to install and remove.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I used it 1 time for roughly 15 miles on I70 in Colorado when required by law and found I had several links broken. I called etrailer about this and they said there was nothing they could do because they sat in my toolbox to long and were out of any warranty timeline.

Comments
These chains do have a 30-day limited warranty time frame. Breakage can happen with the chains if they hit bare pavement or if driven over 25 mph while installed. If you hear or feel anything off like a chain hitting your vehicle, for instance, immediately pull over and address the issue. Also avoid sudden starts and stops, which can cause your wheels to spin or lock up.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

We had previously purchased chains from etrailer that worked great, but we upsized the wheels/tires of the plow truck and needed larger chains. So we bought these chains and used them to enlarge the four previous chains. The new ones did exactly what we wanted them to do! I have always had great success ordering from etrailer and highly recommend your company. Great service and great value!!

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

Chains don't fit on 245/75/17 like the part details claims!! I had to cut 1 cross section and 6 links on the longer ends for them to fit!

Comments
This product fits tire sizes between 15 to 22 inches. Once you fasten the end of the chains together and use the cams to tighten, you drive forward a little bit then keep tightening the cams as needed. They will still fit a little loose but the good news is that you can get chain adjusters like item # TCMA2

They look to be some pretty durable chains. Bummer they didn’t come with the reusable canvas bags, but that’s not really make-it or break it for me. I can find a box at [online] to fit in my truck. Fast shipping time too!

These chains do come with a canvas bag. I will have our customer service team reach out to you.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

Chains seem to be made top quality. Only test fit them so far with perfect fit on a 35x12.5 r18 tire. Hopefully I dont have to use them but the security of having them and knowing the quality and fit is great is worth it.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

Delivered fast, popped these on to get gamiliare with them and actyally tested them out on a road that was snow packed solid ice, my truck would not spin... i tried to make it, but the chains would not allow it in my situation. Yes chains ride rough.. real rough to be honest, but its better than not making it to your destination. They are heavy ( a big pro) feel like excellent quality and would recommend them to anyone who lives in a state that allows them.

Comments
I have only used them twice since i bought these, how ever they have held up great in storage, not a single spot of rust, or anything. They are still in brand new condition

The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains # TC1126 measure 58.4" long x 11.56" wide. I confirmed this with my contact at Titan Chain. If you have the 185/60-15 size tires on your Honda Insight then these will fit your vehicle. • Can Same Chains be Used on 265/60R18 and 245/60R18 Size Tires
It sounds like you are asking if a set of tire chains for a 265/60R18 size tire will also fit a 245/60R18 size tire. Looking through the available chains for each of these tire sizes, it does not look like the same set of chains will be able to fit both tires. The size difference between the two is just enough to require a smaller assembly for your 245/60R18 tires Just for reference a 245/60R18 tire will be about an inch smaller both in diameter and width than a 265/60R18 size tire.
