Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

If you're looking for a way to get traction in the snow without scratching your rims, these K-Summit chains are your best option. The chain only sits on the tire tread and is fastened to one of the lug nuts on your wheel with an easy-to-use fixing key. There are no attachments behind the wheel like typical tire chains, which ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well. You won't have to stop and readjust these chains either - they self-tension, self-center, and conform to the tire perfectly as you drive, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. These chains are ideal for use in light snow and ice.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow cables that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Because these chains are customizable, the first fitting could take a little time but after that, it's simple. The included instructions will let you know if you need to adjust the chains based on your tire size.

Remove lug cover if present

1. To begin installation, you'll need access to your wheel's lug nuts. If you have a plate covering your lug nuts, pop it off using either the included Allen key or a flathead screwdriver.

Determine size of lug nuts

2. Determine which lug nut adapter you'll need to fit over the nut on your wheel. Attach that adapter to the included fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included.

Lay chains over tire thread

3. Fit the chain over your wheel, getting it as far onto the tire as possible.

Tighten lug nut adapter

4. Using the fixing key, thread the included bolt into the adapter. The other end of the fixing key will attach to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

The adapter secures over your lug nut to hold the K-Summit base in place on your wheel. You might need to use the included spacer to get the chains to sit properly.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2023 Rivian RS1 275/50 R22
Hey Julie, thanks for the information and the picture! I checked with Rivian and we've only got one set of tire chains that are going to be compatible with your 2023 RS1 and your 275/50R22 tires. They are the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains item # KON24FR. To avoid damaging brake lines and suspension pieces on the inside of your Rivian's wheel wells you'll need to use the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains item # KON24FR. The reason you can get away with using these is because they have a unique design...

  • Recommended Tire Chains For A 2020 Ram 1500 With An LT275/70R18 Tire Size
The only option we currently have confirmed to fit a LT275/70R18 is the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR. This chain set is Class S compatible and mounts to one of the lug nuts on the wheel for a quick and easy installation. The Titan Chain # TC2326 unfortunately would not be a compatible fit for your Ram's tire size.

  • Tire Chains That Fit 2021 Infiniti QX80 with Size 275/60-20
Our tire chain fitguide is based on tire sizes that we know fit the chains we offer and also based on tire sizes we know are available for vehicles. So while I don't know what tire size you have on your 2021 Infiniti QX80 I'm fairly confident that the # TH00023050 will not work as it fits tire sizes for wheels that are between 14 and 15 inch in diameter and your vehicle would have 20 inch wheels. Most like your vehicle has the tire size of 275/60-20 which the part # PWE3231S are a fit...

I have a set that will work however your 2023 Chevy Suburban's owners manual says not to use tire chains because of clearance issues on the inner part of the tires. You can find this information on page 370. To avoid damaging brake lines and suspension pieces on the inside of your Suburban's wheel wells you'll need to use the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains item # KON24FR. For the Escalade with a 275/50R22 tire size you'll need the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR. Unfortunately we don't currently have a compatible fitting K-Summit tire chain set for the Ram so the closest option would be the Konig Tire Chains # KON74FR.

  • 2023 Chevy Tahoe Tire Chain Recommendation for 275/60R20 Tires
Since your 2023 Chevy Tahoe has clearance issues the only tire chain/traction device I recommend using are the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR as they mount using the lugs nuts on your wheel and the chain only sits on the tread of the tire so there isn't a chance for it to come into contact with things on the backside of the tire (like the brake lines). The manual states to only install the chains on the rear tires so if you install some of these on the front tires you'll run the...

No, they will not. I checked with Titan an their Chain Cable Tire Chain item # TC751DC you were looking at do not fit the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning with 275/50R22 tires. Additionally, your owner's manual says not to use tire chains because of clearance issues on the inner part of the tires. Which means the ones we do have for your Lightning's 275/50R22 like item # KON64FR won't work. With this in mind, I only have one set that will work and it is not an inexpensive option. Based on what the owners manual of your 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 says the only option we have for tire chains would be the Konig K-Summits part # KON24FR as they are only option that does not drape over the inside of the tire so your brake lines and suspension would not possibly be affected.

  • What Snow Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 275/50-22 Tires on My 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
I have a great solution for your tire chains. Unfortunately, if you have 275/50-22 tires on your 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, your owner's manual recommends not installing tire chains on this particular size. Manufacturers often do this because they want to wash their hands of any liability for any damage sustained in the wheel well components. For this reason, it is critical that you have tire chains that have plenty of clearance in the wheel wells. With that being said, I have a great...

  • What Snow Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2021 GMC Yukon Denali?
Yes, you are correct that your owner's manual for your 2021 GMC Yukon Denali says that you shouldn't use tire chains on your 275/50-22 tires. The reason why manufacturers have this listed is to wash their hands of any liability just in case something interferes with the struts or other components in your wheel wells. This is very common. What we would do in this case is fit on tire chains in order to obey the traffic laws in your state. However, we need to also fit tire chains on your...

  • What Class S Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2021 Ford F-150 with 275/60-20 Tires?
As with all tire chains, it is always good to go with the recommendations outlined in the owner's manual when it comes to your size 275/60-20 tires on your 2021 Ford F-150. With that being said, the # TC3029 and # PW3029C will provide a little bit of traction to your BF Goodrich tires. If your owner's manual recommends against self-tensioners like the ones on the # KON24FR, it is better to find an alterative with no self-tensioner. At the end of the day, the Konig Snow Tire Chains - Diamond...

I have two solutions for you. For your GMC Denali with 275/50r22 tires we have the Konig Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - XD16 Pro - Size 279 # KON44FR. It is an on road chain with an integrated rubber tensioner and works in deep snow and ice. This is my first choice. My second choice is the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2021 GMC Yukon Denali with 275/50-22 Size Tires
Thanks for reaching out! There is a little to unpack here so bear with me; while my fellow Expert had good intentions and a good idea, ultimately his recommendation is incorrect and we will be updating that answer page accordingly. While the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR will fit 275/50-22 size tires, it's designed for smaller vehicles as the chains are smaller. Since your 2021 GMC Yukon is a bigger vehicle the weight will basically shorten the lifespan of the chains and they won't...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 275/50R22 Tires on a 2021 Chevy Tahoe
The tire chains that you need to use for the 275/50R22 tires on your 2021 Chevy Tahoe are the Konig K-Summit XXL K79 # KON24FR. These are a unique design because they mount on your tires using the lug nut for then wheel and then there is no chain on the back side of the tire. This is important because when I looked up the owner's manual for your Tahoe it said not to use chains on your tire size because there are clearance issues on the back side of the tire.

Our tire chain fitguide is based on the tire sizes we know vehicles come with and it does not factor in the manufacturer of the vehicle's restrictions based on clearance. So for your 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 that has the tire size of 275/60-20 you'd want the K-Summit chains part # KON24FR which is only option that doesn't drape over inside of the tire sidewall so there would be no clearance issues at all.
