by:

I installed this on my new 2014 F 150 Crew cab. Dealer wanted $200.00 for installation. Hardest part for me was I am living in an apartment between house sale and new purchase. Even while living in an apartment I was able to install tailgate lock in under an hour. I connected wires to unlock on second push of remote like an earlier reviewer. Great product and glad I found Etrailer while searching for a remote tail gate lock.

by:

I am not sure why this product is not standard on every new pickup truck. I had my tailgate stolen and got a repair bill for $3400. I was able to install in a couple hours. Now I have the peace of mind that once I lock my doors it locks the tailgate as well. I would highly recommend to any truck owner.

by:

Ordered for 2014 F250 on Sunday, Received on Thursday, Installed on Saturday. Took me and my son about 1.5 hours to install. Instructions were spot on for color of wires. The video of the f-150 installation was very helpful. Very happy now that I have a Tailgate that can be locked and unlocked with the remote.

by:

Kit was exactly as described and installed easily. I had some trouble finding the correct wires under the door so I went to the connector for the driver side rear door and connected there. It was much easier than trying to find the wire in the huge bundle. Installation into the tailgate was super easy and routing the wires was not trouble. I love knowing that the tailgate is locked whenever the truck is locked.

by:

This is an excellent product since it only takes about 60 seconds to steal your tailgate if it gets left unlocked. It also protects any valuable items in the back as well because all you have to do is press the lock button on your remote and the tailgate locks along with the doors. To open it just press unlock on the remote so no fumbling with keys. I put one on my Sport Trac and would not be without it so when I bought another Sport Trac last week the first thing I did even before I picked up the vehicle was to go online and order another lock assembly. Instructions are excellent so even if you only have limited mechanical ability you should be able to handle this project.....

by:

Great product, Instructions were clear and installation was easy. I did have to file the burs off of the forked part that goes around the latch to get it to fit properly but i would rather do that than have it be a loose fit and not work correctly. It took about 1 hour to install and most of that was running the wiring along the truck frame to prevent having issues later. Highly recommend and will be ordering another one for my other F150. I also lubed all the latches and rods while i had the cover off of the tail gate and would recommend this to others just to prevent binding and wear. This is really cheap insurance to help deter tailgate thieft which would be around 2,000 dollars to replace with painting and backup camera.

by:

Product works well, and is actually simple to install, ONCE you give up on the instructions provided. One of the color code suggested was correct and the other was not light blue and green it was blue and green. Steps should include Recommending finding the right wires using a 12vdc Circuit Tester before going to far in the install. Design of mounting bracket looks and is different then the instructions and most videos including the one online from ETrailer and Pop & Lock. Additionally the design to install is way to close to be able to easily tighten up the provided nut.

by:

This lock performs perfectly. One year of pop lockin the tailgate! I'm somewhat OCD about locking doors so I usually click the lock button 3-5 times every time I get out of the truck and this lock works perfectly. Couldn't be happier with it. Installation took and hour and a half and was painless just had to take your time and identify the correct wire to tap.

by:

Produck received q
was defective. Acuatolater
would not move far enough. Excellent service on replacement. Only real problem was Ford dealership spending to much time trying to get it to work, charging me $178 and still not working.

Good product. A friend and I both got them and both of them had to use a couple washers under the mounting bracket to keep it from rubbing and causing it to not unlock. Otherwise I like it.

by:

I installed this into a 2013 F350 with the backup camera and tailgate step. Installation when fairly smooth. I had to install a couple washers between the bracket and had to bend it just slightly to keep it from binding on the lock.

The instructions have you running the harness down the drivers side. Do not do this. On my crew cab, long bed, I ran it down the passenger side and up through a body mount grommet behind the front right wheel. There I tapped in behind the fuse panel to the purple+gray stripe and gray+tan stripe wires. This allows the tailgate lock to operate with the second click on the remote, along with the passenger doors.

All in all, it was a fairly easy install. even with having to get the mounting bracket positioned properly. I now don't have to remember to lock the tailgate with the key to prevent theft.

by:

Installation was simple, quick and easy. Quality of the wiring and connections is excellent. Pop & Lock mechanism works well. This is a great addition to my truck.

One year of flawless pops, whether its -30 or a warm summer day. A great upgrade to my 2014 Ford tailgate! I love this product and recommend it for any truck without one.

by:

Great product so far. Installed a year ago on a 2013 F150. Locate your wires that you are going to connect to prior to routing your lock wiring under the bed. I made that mistake and routed to the drivers side and then ended up wanting to connect to the passenger lock/unlock wire which does not exist on the drivers side on my truck. It was only on the passenger side. So I had already routed my wiring to the drivers side thus I went ahead and connected to the Drivers door lock/unlock wire. I also put some closed cell foam around the locking mechanism to help with vibration noise that occurs when you slam the tailgate closed. Put on some plastic spiral wire wrap in specific areas that may have additional wear due to vibration or gate closure movement. I hope this helps!

by:

Straight forward install , no problem with it working after a year.
Nice to secure the tailgate using the trucks power lock system .

Still works great ,no issues with it at all .

I bought this product because I installed a Snug Top shell on my 2014 F-250 and had a power lock installed on the shell's flip up rear door. They quoted me around $350 to install a power lock on my tailgate, claiming they would have to "fabricate" some parts. I did a search and found this on eTrailer, and after watching the video I installed it myself. Lucky for me, the correct wires were already located since they were the same as for the shell. That would have been the more difficult part of the install for me. The power lock has worked flawlessly for me for the past year and the install was relatively simple (watch the video). Everything locks on my truck with one push on my remote. The only thing I can think of that is a slight issue is that the bracket vibrates slightly when I close the tailgate. It makes a sound like there is something loose in the tailgate, which I guess there is, but it's attached securely. Dealing with eTrailer was fast and easy and delivery was very quick. Very satisfied!

by:

Works good so far. I had the wiring connected by dealer for warrenty reasons. Did the grunt work myself to save money. Really should come on the vehicle from factory. No more wondering if I locked the tailgate? It was easy to install video helps a lot. I'd recommend it to anybody who's thinking about this upgrade.

Still working! Thanks etrailer. The customer service I got a year ago still resonates with me and I would recommend etrailer to anyone needing these types of parts.

by:

good product and works well. Just be aware that the factory nuts may not work with the pop and lock bracket. Mine have a captive washer behind the nut and there is neither enough room side to side nor up and down to use the factory nut. I tried to simply trim the edge of the captive washer to make room, which worked out OK, but then I realized that the threads inside the factory nut do not start until about 2mm into the nut/washer assembly. Luckily I had a spare 6mm nut lying around and was able to complete without another trip to the hardware store.

Be sure you have a 6mm nut or you may be stymied.

Still working great! I put this on as I did not have the key to the tailgate lock cylinder and was worried that some joker would swipe my tailgate. It has been about a year and it is still working great, no worries about losing the tailgate.

by:

Pop & Lock works very well. A bit of a hassle to run the wires securely down to the passenger front door but worth it. With the tonneau cover in place anything in the truck bed is reasonably secured. It also help prevents tailgate theft (for the camera), an expensive item to replace. Note: some of the color wires in the bundle are of similar shades and hues. Try to pick out the wires in direct sunlight to get the right ones (I marked them with tape and later connected them in the garage). Get a second opinion in case you have a color perception problem, even a minor one.

Bob, thanks for the info! We recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to match pins by function. Because wire colors can vary, they are not as reliable for determining functions.

I was looking for trailer parts and came across this site. Looked at what they carry and came across this tailgate lock. The main reason my wife bought this was to be a Xmas present, becuz i kept leaving the key in the tailgate lock after opening and closing the gate. Then go do something and then find I don't have my keys. I needed this bad enough she gave it to me early. Not bad to install after watching the video, fairly easy. Much easier to push a button in your pocket to unlock and lock than to fumble with keys. During the day, my job requires I carry tools and parts to jobs. Constantly opening and closing tailgate. This will make for an easy day. Just bought a 2013 Ford F150 FX4 a year ago. This is the only option it didn't have.

by:

This Pop & Lock system is awesome. No more worrying if I forgot to lock the tailgate or not when going somewhere. Simply lock or unlock using the keyfob, door locks, or personal combination entry system. Install took about an hour. All trucks need this.

by:

So, 2010 Ford Sport trac 4 door Limited, purchased this kit part # PAL8250, live in Canada and shipping was a little long but expected.
Installation, was very simple and straight forward, instructions were simple and correct for my vehicle. The only picture I will submit is the lock assembly bolted to the lock arms. I had watched the video and like that video I had to use the farthest opening in the tailgate to slide into position. Running the wires from rear to front of vehicle was straight forward just made sure the wires are clear of any heat source or moving parts.
I came through the firewall In the rubber grommet for the hood latch, I used a rod 1/8 “ diameter slightly sharpened with a hole drilled in the end to attach wires and pull through opening. Once inside vehicle I removed drivers kick panel and found the right colored wires, stripped a small opening to expose wires hooked up a tester to ground and hit the unlock button on fob or door closed control, on my vehicle light blue withe green stripe showed power on unlock, grey wire with tan fired lock, I found there were 3 identical looking wires in that loom ( I went through all three to find the right one) not a problem but after looking closely the other wires were not tan stripe, just taped the ones I did not use back up to prevent shorting. I then took the right wires striped back a 1/4 “ WITHOUT CUTTING ANY STRANDS twisted wires to each one and tested worked great so I soldered together each connection retested then taped the loom back up and put back in place along floor pan replaced kick panel. Took my time on this one no hoist so the longest part was running wires and zip striping. As for using soldering, connectors are provided I just prefer not to use them.
Start to finish maybe 1 hour.
The lock part is well constructed appears to be stainless steel pre formed and fit perfectly, so perfect you have to make sure you have everything lined up before it fits tightly in place, then just bolts in to hold secure with one nut.
I would give this a full 5 star review and the piece of mind that the tailgate is locked when the truck is locked is the best part

1. Watch the video before installing!

2. My 2012 F150 Supercrew has the reverse camera and assist step in the tailgate. Installation of the lock assembly was simple and easy. I did use, and recommend a set of mechanical fingers to make wire harness routing through the tailgate much easier. I ran the the finger through the tailgate and out of the hole in the bottom of the gate. Also, if you have the camera harness like I did, routing is much easier if you remove the tailgate from the right hinge only, and move it away from the bed slightly to allow better access to the hole in the bed. I also routed the wire from underneath the bed and then through the tailgate due to the camera wire harness. I installed spiral wrap around the harness in the area of the tailgate to provide additional chaffing protection. I purchased the split sleeve to protect the wire harness routed from this area to the front of the cab.

3. Instead of drilling a hole in the rocker panel box, I found a hole with a rubber plug installed, at the rear of the passenger door rocker panel. I used a 1/4" gasket punch to cut out the center of the plug, routed the wire through the hole, and sealed it with black silicone. The wire went right into the wire tunnel. I routed the wire harness up to the driver door rocker area, and connected into the truck harness there. I did wire my gate lock to unlock with the passenger door, so the wire colors were Grey with a tan stripe for locking, and Purple with a grey stripe for unlock. I secured the harness in the rocker tunnel with nylon cable ties.
I have several friends who own F150's with locking tailgates, and they all indicated they would be looking into getting one for their trucks!

by:

I have a locking sliding bed cover and to know the tailgate is locked when I click the key fob makes me feel very secure that my belongings are locked safely in the bed of my truck. Installation was not too difficult, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the product. Once installed, it has worked flawlessly. Watch the videos and take your time.
