Some locks allow setting the cylinder to match your ignition key. Follow the key setting steps in the kit to pair it. For lost keys, use the number stamped on the face of the lock cylinder to request a replacement key from the lock's manufacturer. If that's not possible, a locksmith can open it so you can swap in a replacement cylinder.
Installation is typically straightforward and can be done in under an hour. Video guides make it easier when printed instructions are minimal or use small font. Be ready for tight electrical connectors; carefully release latches with a small screwdriver. Routing wiring to the firewall takes the most time on power kits. Power tailgate locks can tie into your vehicle's lock circuit so the tailgate locks with your remote. If vehicle power is lost, applying an external 12V source at the harness can operate the lock to open the gate.
