Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2" Square Trailer Axles

Today we're going to be taking a look at the CE Smith u-bolt kit for mounting 2" square trailer axles. The mounting kit is going to attach a trailer axle to the leaf spring. The plates are going to be galvanized steel, then the hardware is going to be steel construction but that's going to have a zinc plated finish on it, so overall the unit is going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. This kit is going to include 4 u-bolts, 2 u-bolt plates, and then it's going to come with the appropriate hardware, so you're going to get 8 hex nuts and 8 washers, and those are going to be lock washers. We can tell that this is designed for 1 3/4" springs simply by taking a measurement between this hole and this hole, and we can see that- that measurement is right at 1 3/4". Now the plates themselves going this direction we're looking at 3 3/4", and then going this direction it's going to have a measurement of 4". It does have the center hole for punch out on the spring.

Then right here for the u-bolts, a couple measurements I want to go over with these, these are going to give us an inner width, measuring inside edge to inside edge, of just over 2" so that's how we know that there are designed for a 2" wide square axle. Center on center those posts are going to be separated by 2 5/8". The length, measuring from the bottom of this area here to the end of the stud, that's going to give a measurement of right at 4 1/2". Then the diameter of the u-bolts, so the thickness right here outside edge to outside edge, there are going to be a 1/2" diameter. That's going to do it for today's look at the CE Smith u-bolt kit for mounting 2" square trailer axles.

  • How to Flip a 2" Square Axle so the Axle is Below the Springs
Hey Stephen. All you should need to do to flip a 2" square axle is to use the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2" Square Trailer Axles item # CE23103. You'll be able to reorientate your axle below your springs with this setup. This kit is designed for 3,500 lbs axles and is sold individually. Please note you will most likely need to drill new alignment holes opposite of the original ones on the axle tube. A conversion/axle flip kit is more involved because thicker round axles have spring...

  • Looking for Replacement Leaf Spring, U-Bolt Kit and Equalizer for Magic Tilt
Hey Danny, for the leaf spring the part number replacement you would need would be the part # e57SR. The u-bolt kit you'd need is the part # CE23103. Then for the equalizer replacement you'd need the part # TREQ356.

Yes we do, Johnny. Check out the CE Smith Tie-Down Bracket for Boat Trailers # CE26214G. This is a bolt-on bracket that will create a fixed-position tie-down on your trailer, is made of galvanized steel, and is 4" long x 1 15/16" wide.

  • Looking for a Axle, Leaf Springs, and U-bolts for My 1983 Ranger Trail Trailer
Hello Ben, We can help you out with some of the parts, but unfortunately, the axle will need to be purchased elsewhere. We don’t carry the size you need. If you do a Google search for "square axle for Ranger trailer 2"x3", a few companies should pop up with exactly what you're looking for. - U-bolt kit: You’ll want the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2" Square Trailer Axles - 4-1/2" Long U-Bolts - Zinc # CE23103. It’s always recommended to use new U-bolts, as they tend to stretch over...

  • Replacing 26" Leaf Springs on Square 3,500 Pound Axles
Hey Dan, We have a few 26" trailer leaf springs available, but none that match the 3,500 pound rating you're needing. If your existing leaf springs are pretty old, it's very possible they stretched a bit over time, meaning you actually need a shorter set like the 25-1/8" 4-Leaf # e54SR as a new replacement. Also make sure you're measuring from the center of one "eye" to the other with the trailer lifted so it's not under load. And just a note, the fact that it's a 4-Leaf isn't really...

  • Recommended 24-5/8" Long 4-Leaf Slipper Spring for 2,000 lbs Axles
Hey Kenneth! The 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Radius End item # e69SR is sold individually. This slipper spring measures 24-5/8" Long and works with 2,000 lbs axles. It has a 9/16" eye diameter with bushing and a radius end on the slipper side. What kind of trailer are you replacing the springs on? You can add this information, along with any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

  • Replacing Suspension Assembly On Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
Hey Jim, welcome back! You are on the right track with the # APT5 kit. As long as the hanger height, shackle and equalizer length are the same, you can be sure it will work. The equalizer in the kit is 7-3/4" long center hole to center hole. The shackles are 2-5/8" long. Its best to have all this stuff match the stock sizing, just be sure everything will line up correctly. Also, yes leaf springs are measured center hole to center hole. The best practice is to jack up one side of the trailer...

  • How to Flip Square Trailer Axle for Ground Clearance
Hi there, I understand the frustration square axles can make things a little trickier. At this time, we don’t carry an over under kit specifically designed for square or rectangular axles. That said, you can still gain lift by flipping the axle without welding. On most square axle setups, this means moving the axle from above the leaf springs to underneath them, which usually gives you about 3 to 5 inches of additional ground clearance. To do this, you would need a square U-bolt kit...

  • Do You Have The Replacement Open Eye Leaf Springs and Hardware For a 2001 Load Rite Boat Trailer
The only open eye 1-3/4" wide leaf springs we currently carry is the etrailer # e24SR & # e33SR. I have no way to verify the weight capacity for your current springs but as it is only a 2" square axle this spring is likely much heavier than you will need. We do have the U-Bolt Kit # CE23103 for your axle which includes 4 u-bolts, 2 plates and 8 washers and nuts. Then you will need 2 of the Hanger Bolts # TRFA73Z916DLNZ for the leaf springs.

  • How To Flip Square Trailer Axle For Ground Clearance
It is possible to mount the springs on top of the axle which is called "flipping the axle". To accomplish this we normally recommend an over-under conversion however there is not one with square u-bolts available for your square axle. Instead I recommend to use CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2" Square Trailer Axles - 4-1/2" Long U-Bolts - Zinc part # CE23103 which is galvanized for boat trailers. The U-bolts measure Inner width of 2-1/8" with a length of 4-1/2" and diameter of 1/2"....

  • Replacement U-Bolt Kit, Leaf Springs, Bolts and Shackles for 68 Aristocrat Lo Liner Trailer
Installing the U-bolts and plate like that would be fine, but I would recommend putting the plate on the leaf springs and running the U-bolts around the axle instead. The good news is you're replacing them so you can make that change when you install them. Once you have your axle measurements we do have some kits you could use. If it is a 2" square axle the # CE23103 or for a 1-1/2" square axle the # CE23102. If it is 1-3/4" you will need the # 175130 along with the # 116308. Since you...

The best option we have for you is the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # e84SR with the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit part # APS4. This option will replace the leaf springs and leaf spring hanger brackets which is needed because the new double eye leaf springs are 1-3/4" wide and the old slipper springs are 2" wide not to mention the length discrepancy and leaf spring hanger bracket height. • Are Trailer Spring Seats Needed for Square Axles with Leaf Springs?
Square axles normally don't have spring seats like a round axle but do have a hole for the leaf spring bolt to fit into. Take a look at the CE SMITH # CE33201GA-HUB for a visual. The U-bolt mounting kits will have a hole in the center for the other side of that leaf spring bolt to keep everything in line. If you have a 1-1/2 inch square axle use # CE23102. If you have a 2 inch axle use # CE23103.

  • Can Axle Over Under Kit be Installed on Trailer with 2 inch Square Axles
Axle flip kits are great options for raising the suspension of a trailer. Trucks weren't as tall back then as they are now so I'm not totally surprised your trailer is sitting so nose high. We have 2 inch square U-bolt kits like part # CE23103 which you could use, but we don't have spring seats for this axle size. So you would have to remove the spring seats on your axle and weld them on the other side.

  • Recommended Axle Mounting Hardware for Square Axle
It sounds like the axles were attached with 2 inch U-bolts that are 1/2 inch diameter which are a standard size so it sounds like the axles are compatible with a standard U-bolt kit like the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2" Square Trailer Axles - 4-1/2" Long U-Bolts - Zinc # CE23103. If this is the case, that is my recommendation. This will work well with 1-3/4 inch wide leaf springs. If I misunderstood and the 2 inch U-bolts were bent out to fit a 2-1/2 inch wide square axle, then...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Wesco Boat Trailer
For a 3,500 lb trailer axle leaf spring I would recommend the galvanized part # e68SR which is 25-1/8 inches long. Galvanized steel holds up a lot better to rust than standard steel and while this is a little shorter than what you have now worn out springs tend to flatten out and get longer over time. For a 2 inch square u-bolt kit then you'd want the part # CE23103 and you'd be set. To pick out an axle you would need to know the hub face to hub face dimension as well as the spring seat...

  • Needing U-Bolts to Fit Around 2x3 Trailer Frame Member
Given the dimensions you provided, I believe that a u-bolt kit such as # CE23103 that's typically used to mount a 2 inch square trailer axle to the leaf spring pack would be your best bet. The kit includes two assemblies, each of which includes two 4-1/2 inch long 1/2 inch U-bolts with a 2-1/8 inch inside span, two bolt plates and the necessary nuts and lock washers. I've linked to a product description video for the U-bolt kit I recommended.

  • Does 3,500 lb Leaf Spring Need to Have Same Number of Leaves as Original
Yes, you can replace your 3,500 lb 7-leaf springs with leaf springs that have 3 or 4 leaves because the weight rating is the same. The number of leaves isn't a determining factor; for example, there are 4-leaf springs for both 2k and 6k axles. So you simply need springs with the correct rating for your axle, as well as the right length. For that, you'll want to measure the length from center-to-center of the spring eyes, taking into account you current leaf springs will have elongated...

  • Determining The Correct Replacement Leaf Springs For Tandem Axle Trailer W/ Square Axles
I would be happy to help you find the correct replacement suspension components for your trailer, but you will need to take a few measurements first. Starting with the leaf springs, you will need to make sure that the tires on the side of the trailer you are working on is off the ground with the trailer supported by the frame as the leaf springs will stretch when the tires are on the ground and weight is applied. If your 26-1/2" measurement was with the tires off the ground the closest...

Though the leaf springs are rusty, they do not seem to look pitted, so they should still be fine. It wouldn't hurt to clean them off with WD-40 or a rust remover to make sure they don't get worse. If you did want to replace them though, you could go with something like the Universal Group # SP-040275. As I couldn't tell 100% how wide the leaf spring is, this is a 1 3/4 wide one. It is also much longer with the overall length of 30 inches, so the rear hanger would most likely need to be...
