Keeping bearings properly lubricated doesn’t have to mean tearing everything apart. This Dexter hub uses an oil bath system with a clear cap (kit RG04-270) that lets you see the oil level at a glance. You can check your lubrication quickly and top off when needed without pulling the hub. It’s a simple setup that makes regular maintenance faster and cleaner.
Designed for general-duty 12,000-lb axles, this idler hub handles 6,000 lbs per wheel end. The 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern and 5/8" studs give solid wheel retention for heavy applications. With its sturdy iron construction and standard-grade bearings, it’s built to take steady load cycles and long hauls without worry.
No separate parts to chase down. The hub comes with inner bearing (3984), outer bearing (28682), both bearing races already pressed in, unitized oil seal (10-56), oil cap kit (RG04-270), and lug nuts included. You get a full setup that’s ready to mount once your drum and bolts (7-103) are in place.
If you’re running disc brakes or planning a conversion, this hub fits right in. It’s compatible with 12K disc brake kits like the K2R1258L12 setup, so you can upgrade your braking performance without changing your hubs. The precision machining keeps everything aligned for smooth rotor fitment and reliable braking response.
This Dexter hub is built from solid iron for long service life under demanding conditions. The machined pilot hole diameter of 4-3/4" ensures a snug fit on standard spindles, while the tight bearing tolerances help maintain smooth rotation over thousands of miles. It’s the kind of build quality you expect from a heavy-duty hub that’s made to stay in service season after season.
1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"
