Video Transcript for Lippert Solera Manual Crank Style Awning Drive Head Review

Rob: Rob here at And today we're going to be taking a look at the Solera replacement crank style awning heads. Now this is going to be for the drive and the idler side. If you already have a Solera pitch, short or flat awning, the head here is going to work for that because it's going to be a universal design that's going to work with all those Lippert awnings. Now this one's the drive head because it's what we're actually going to use to turn the awning and drive it out or in. Now on the other side of our awning, we're going to have the idler head.

This is going to be the one that just helps the awning come down, but there's no actual gear or thing we have to turn on this side. These are going to be available in black, as well as white, so you can pick up one that's going to match your awning. Now, if you've ever been in a situation where you're either at the campground or wherever you are, you go to let your awning out and it's fine, you're enjoying the weather and we need to put it back in. Well, in our case, we go to put our awning back in and as you can see, it just keeps skipping teeth. We'll get a little bit rolled up, but then it just wants to come right back out. Which would make it really difficult and a big pain to try to get to this back in whether we needed to drive back home or whatever the case, if we have an awning, we want to use it.

And with that going on, we know that there's a problem in the head somewhere. Most likely, it's in the drive head, the one that we're actually using to crank, but it could also be in the idler head on the other side.So we're going to go in and replace both of these so we can use and enjoy our awning. If we come to the roller here, we look right in between the head and the roller, we'll find a screw that's attaching everything together. And then if we come to the middle of our drive head and we follow it down to the arm, there's going to be a really large screw holding that in place. Those are the only two pieces that are holding the head on each side.

So before we take any of the hardware out, we want to make sure that we have an extra set of hands or something to support the tube of our awning so once we remove the head, it doesn't drop down. So the screw that's holding the actual roller to the head is going to be a square bit. So we'll grab a number two square, and we'll pull that bolt out.Another fastener holding the head onto the arm, just going to be a large Phillips bit, we're going to loosen that up, and pull that out as well. And you want to make sure you hold on to all the hardware because our replacement heads are not going to come with new hardware. It's only going to be the head itself.

So we'll lift the head up just a little bit, pivot the arm out of the way and we'll slide the head assembly off and we'll grab the new one and just repeat the process of putting the hardware back. So we can grab the head assembly, you want to put it into the roller first, and there's a small hole that's on the rod here. You want that to line up with the hole that's in the roller and we'll take that square screw bit that we had earlier, we'll just replace it, put it back in place. And we're going to replace that one screw holding the head to the arm.Make sure is nice and secure, and that'll finish up this side for the drive side. And the idler side is going to go on the exact same way, so we're going to repeat that on the other side. Now with the drive head and the eyes of the head replaced, we're going to run our awning in and out to make sure it fixed the problem. And with our awning rolling in and out properly, we can finally enjoy the outdoors again without having to be in the direct sunlight or in the rain. So this is going to be a great replacement part for those awnings that are either really difficult to get in or out, or if you're rolling it out, it starts skipping teeth, or if it just doesn't want to hold itself up, but that'll finish up your look at the Lippert components Solera crank style awning head for the drive and idler side..

I would have given you a higher rating but you sent the wrong part the first time. But you made it right and I finally got the right part.

Still working good

Haven’t installed as yet but appears to be a perfect replacement. Install video is also excellent.

Received my order promptly, and was perfect replacement. Just hope it last longer than the original.

Product is working just like original. Hope it lasts longer.

I replaced two Solera awning motors before finally getting fed up and spending an obscene amount of money on this manually-operated one. I think our awning is a bit distorted, which makes it a little bit more difficult to wind up, which is probably why the motors burned out. But I still contend that Solera is using the very cheapest garbage and that a decent motor could have handled the torque.

Not a fan of Solera at all because they make rock-bottom-quality products at rather high prices. Now I've spent a ton of money and made a bunch of waste because they can't just use higher quality components.

All this is to say nothing about etrailer - they're a great website and easy to deal with.

I just hope this new drive head lasts...

@Brandon We're glad to hear that the # LC300031 replacement drive head is doing the job for you!

Works perfectly! My one year old awning broke.....I was not impressed. But etrailer had competitive pricing, free shipping, and the part arrived faster than promised. Very happy customer! Now I am back camping with my awning all like new.

One year in and the awni g is still working perfectly

My electric motor on the awning quit working so I decided to replace it. I searched for a replacement and found it. $xx.xx, I also saw a manual replacement head for $xx.xx. No brainer, spend on luxury or longevity. I went with later and it has worked great. Was a little difficult to install by myself, but I got it done. Great mod.

I received the part very soon after placing order. At first I was frustrated because there were no instruction on how to install because I am a 65 year old woman without anyone to assist. I called your office and the staff contacted the company and the manual did not help with installation because this was not a total install. I figured it out and was able to make the repair on my own. After installation I was able to roll the awning in with no problem.

Good price, quick delivery and good overall service.

Worked fine all year. Very satisfied.

Easy to install and works flawlessly.

Douglas O.
