I had to upgrade my fifth wheel to a motorhome do to my wifes disability how ever every thing worked out just fine fo the short time I used it.

I can't say enough good things about the staff at etrailer. They helped me pick out the correct items to install disc brakes on my boat trailer and the technical staff was extremely helpful in helping me better understand how to perform the installation. This was the first time I ever install a new brake system and their help enabled me to easily and successfully complete the installation. A+ for the product quality and for etrailer staff!

Would not recommend this package at all. The main cable (vehicle 7 prong cable) had all the wires miss attached, IE the brown was not the running light but the constant, yellow was constant etc, the only wire hooked up correctly was the white ground.

So during installation I assumed the harness would be correct, hooked up to my truck and not have a massive short in my truck due to the improper back feeding and drain. I had to bring another vehicle up and trace every wire individually with a test light to wire the trailer correctly. Good news, after 5 hours I was able to rewire my trailer, bad news I no longer have a truck to tow it with due to the short. I can not even begin to imagine the undertaking of now having to find the short in my truck.

Would recommend against purchasing this product at all costs, you're better off building one on your own harness which I guess I should have done!

by:

The location and color of the wires in the plug is completely misconstrued from industry standards! Green where it should be brown, red where it should be yellow, brown where it should be green, yellow where it should be purple. This makes the wiring a real trick!

Yes, you will need to check the studs in the junction box, they are labeled by function. Hopkins does not follow the standard colors for functions. I know that's frustrating but it's always a good idea to test your wiring with a circuit tester by function to make sure you are hooking up the correct wires to the correct stud.

by:

Watch how you wire this up but once I started following the directions it worked perfectly. Would have liked a better waterproof box for wires but seems to holding up to the water.

by:

Everything I have purchased from you had been the highest of quality. Very quick delivery. I rebuilt my boat trailer with your part and I couldn't be happier

by:

The color coding on the wiring block does not match the wires in the pigtail …. Be sure to test when plugged into your vehicle

  • Replacement Parts for 1970s Camper Frame with Dayton Fayette Axles
The Lippert Components Heavy-Duty Replacement Shock - Yellow # LC283280 is 8.625 inches compressed and 13.5 inches fully extended. Your current suspension may extend and retract slightly further but the shocks will be a good replacement based on the actual shock absorbing as long as they will fit your brackets. Unfortunately we don't have any info on your axle or hubs, so to help, I will need to get the bearing numbers printed on the face of your inner and outer bearing of one hub. If...

  • Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System Rated for Higher Than 2,000 Pounds
The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System, part # A20RS545, is rated for a total of 2,000 pounds. Essentially, it's designed to work in place of a suspension system and a 2,000 pound standard axle. If you need a 3,500 pound system use part # A35RS545 that has idler hubs with the same 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. If you want to add brakes instead use part # A35RS545E that includes the hub and drums, as well as the brake assemblies. There really isn't anything to retrofit. You just...

  • How to Convert a Trailer with Surge Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
You can convert surge brakes to an electric over hydraulic braking system. To do this, you will need an electric over hydraulic actuator and a brake controller. For an electric over hydraulic actuator, I recommend looking at the Carlisle HydraStar units. If your trailer has drum brakes, you will want part # HBA-10. If your trailer has disc brakes, then you will want part # HBA16. I have also attached a link to all of our electric over hydraulic actuators for you to check out your options. The...

  • Solution for Towing 2017 Toyota Prius Behind Motorhome
You are correct, the 2017 Toyota Prius that you have can only be towed on a dolly behind a motorhome. Good news is it won't put miles on the vehicle since the drive wheels will be on the dolly. I like dolly setups over tow bar setups for a number of reasons. The install time is considerably less, you can easily transfer the towing setup to a different vehicle unlike base plate kits that are vehicle specific, and you don't put miles on the vehicle. The price isn't that different either when...

  • Recommended Electric Trailer Jack And Wiring To 7-Way 12V Connection
For a 3500 lb Electric Jack, I recommend the Bulldog Powered-Drive Trailer Jack - Drop Leg - A-Frame - 14" Lift - 3,500 lbs - Black # BD500187. This jack uses a 12 volt system, so it is compatible with your 7-way although a battery is always a better option like # 20099. To use the 7-way, this can be done by splicing into the trailer harness wiring or using a junction box like # 38656. If you want the juction box and 7 way you can use # HS381-9000. Whether you choose to splice into...

  • Adapter and Re-Wiring Kit for Lance Truck Camper with Round Pin 7-Way Plug
A junction box/7-way plug kit like Epicord # 277-000141 or # HS381-9000 lets you convert the camper to match the 7-way RV blade type connector format. This avoids the extra connection points and potential trouble spots from using separate adapters. These items use different wire colors so be sure to follow the wiring guide for the specific kit you select. The existing wires on the camper will need ring terminals like # 44-5310A (for 12 and 10 gauge wires) and # DW05702-1 (for 16 and 14...

  • Converting an M105A Military Trailer Air Over Hydraulic to Electric Over Hydraulic Drum Brakes
I have the perfect solution for you! The first thing you need to do is swap out your actuator and for that I recommend using the USA made HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HBA-12 because this company makes very reliable equipment and they receive great reviews from our customers. From my information military trailers like your M105A use larger 1/4" brake lines so you should also need the Fitting # HS43-9035 to make this actuator compatible with your trailer brake...

To convert your 8-247 Dexter hubs # 84546UC3 from hydraulic to electric, you can simply use the same hubs if they are in good shape. If you don't need to replace them, I recommend updating the bearings and seal since you have them apart. For your inner bearing you want # L68149, for your outer bearing # L44649, and then grease seal # 58846. Then for the brake assemblies, I recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 23-468-469...

  • Using 7-Way 12V Power Circuit to Power Trailer LED Interior Lights
Yes, you certainly can use the 12V auxiliary power circuit on your 7-way wiring setup to power trailer lights. If you refer to the linked photo of a vehicle 7-way connector you will note that the 12V power circuit is carried on the contact at the 1:00 position as you look at the 7-way socket. This is noted by the yellow arrow. An easy way to access this 12V power circuit is to tap into it by using a junction box like # HS381-9000. • Can Electric Brakes be Used on a Boat Trailer
Traditionally, trailer manufacturers did not use electric brakes on boat trailers because the brake magnet wiring and trailer wiring did not always have the best insulation or water protection. These days, more and more manufacturers are using electric brakes on boat trailers due to improvements in wiring insulation and heat shrink connectors. If you are going to use electric brakes, I strongly recommend using heat shrink butt connectors, like part # DW05745-10, when splicing the wires...

  • Parts Needed to Install Trailer Brakes on a Load Rite Trailer Model UT6512
Looks like your Load Rite trailer UT6512 has a 3,500 lb axle. Most likely it's a standard 3,500 lb trailer axle but first you have to check to see if the axle has brake mounting flanges. If you can get back to me with whether or not you have brake flanges and the brand of your axle (most likely Lippert or Dexter) I can see which kit we have that may work. Check out the link I attached to see a guide to use for adding brakes to your trailer.

It may have the capacity listed or, at least a serial number the axle manufacturer could use to identify it. If not, you will need to check and see what bearings you have.
