This adjustable-channel brake actuator is made for serious towing. With a 14,000-lb capacity and a maximum tongue weight of 1,400 lbs, it’s ready for heavy-duty work. The standard 2-5/16" ball coupler gives you a strong, reliable connection, and the heavy-steel construction keeps its shape even under stress. It’s the kind of setup you can weld on once and know it can take the load.
The unique roller setup inside the actuator helps it move smoothly every time you hit the brakes. It reduces resistance during telescoping so the movement stays straight and even, which means your trailer brakes engage cleanly with less jerk or bind. The hydraulic surge design automatically syncs your trailer braking to your tow vehicle for predictable stopping power on drum brake systems.
Getting your coupler height right is easy thanks to the three mounting positions in the built-in adjustable channel. You can align your trailer level without extra adapters or spacers. The vertical range of adjustment is 4", giving you room to fine-tune how your trailer sits and tracks behind you.
This actuator is built to stay put once installed. It welds directly onto a 3" wide channel tongue for a solid mount that won’t loosen or shift over time. The steel body resists bending if you ever get into a tight jackknife situation, and the primed finish gives you a clean surface to paint or coat to match the rest of your trailer.
A breakaway kit is already built in to keep your trailer under control if it ever disconnects from the tow vehicle. It’s an added layer of protection that makes sure your trailer brakes engage automatically if separation happens on the road.

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this Dexter adjustable channel drum brake actuator. This adjustable channel surge type actuator is going to activate your trailer's drum brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. When you apply your brakes in your tow vehicle, as you know, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer towards the rear of your vehicle. So, with surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while your tow vehicle slows down. This actuator telescopes applying the force to the master cylinder, which in turn is going to supply the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer brakes.
Now, this will weld onto your trailer tongue and give you an adjustable channel that has three different mounting positions for this standard heavy duty two and 5/16th inch coupler. And while we're here, let me go ahead and just show you this coupler in action. I do happen to have a two and 5/16th inch hitch ball, so I'm just going to lift this latch, slide that ball in. And as you can see, this is going to be nice and secure, and lift this back up and that's going to allow me to disconnect from my hitch ball. Now, this is a three inch wide channel with four inches of vertical range, four inches of vertical range of adjustment.
So again, you're gonna have three different mounting positions with this coupler. Overall, this is made of a sturdy steel construction with a primed finish and a gross towing weight capacity of 14,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight of 1400 pounds. And this features a unique roller design, which is going to reduce resistance during the telescoping to create straight line movement. We do have grease search there for easy maintenance of that roller mechanism. And as you probably already saw, this does include a breakaway chain and it has a hook at the end so you can, so this is can ensure a secure connection to your breakaway lever on your actuator.
Now, this is going to hook to your tow vehicle and prevent a trailer runaway situation. So, if your trailer unhooks from your tow vehicle, it will pull this chain, which will then activate the master cylinder to apply the brakes to keep it from a runaway situation. Now because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer brakes. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.
Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
