If your drum brakes are dragging or fading, these Kodiak 11" disc brakes are a big step up. The one-piece hub-and-rotor assemblies deliver short stopping distances and smooth, consistent braking that keeps your trailer steady. Each rotor is vented to move heat out fast and prevent pad wear, and the large stainless steel piston reacts quickly for crisp, confident stops.

Forget about constant adjustments or spring replacements. These disc brakes have no shoes, magnets, or cables to service, so they stay reliable with minimal upkeep. When the ceramic pads eventually wear, they’re easy to reach right on the outside of the caliper—no need to tear down the whole assembly. It’s a straightforward design that saves time every season.

Rust and corrosion can ruin brake performance fast, especially when you tow through rain or humidity. The E-coated calipers and ductile iron mounting brackets resist corrosion with a 250- to 350-hour salt spray rating. The durable automotive-grade construction is made to hold up through years of towing.
Each kit includes two cast iron hub-and-rotor assemblies with bearings, races, grease seals, E-Z Lube caps, wheel bolts, and zinc-plated steel lug nuts—all matched for an 8,000 lb axle with a #42 spindle. The bolt pattern is 8 on 6-1/2" with 9/16" wheel bolts and a 2-1/2" piston diameter. With everything preassembled and ready to bolt on, you can get back on the road faster and stop with confidence.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Kodiak 11 inch hub and rotor disc brake assembly set. This set is going to allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes so that you can experience the superior performance that comes along with disc brakes. You can see we are gonna get two of these brake assemblies so it is going to be enough to upgrade a single Dexter axle with an 8,000 pound capacity and the number 42 spindles. Our rotors are 11 inches in diameter, and as you can see, we've got the eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern. So these are going to work for your 16 inch and larger wheels.
Our calipers and our caliper mounting brackets are E-coated so these are going to help resist rust and corrosion with a 250 to 350 hour salt spray rating. Our hub and rotor assemblies are an uncoated cast iron. So this kit is going to be great for your campers, car haulers, or utility trailers but because it doesn't have any kind of finish on that iron it's not gonna be great for your boat trailers or trailers that are used in roads that are heavily salted and that sort of thing. If you're gonna have a lot of salt in the environment I would recommend going with a dacromet or a stainless steel kind of finish to make sure that that's gonna hold up well for you. But if you're not in those environments you don't have to worry about it.
This will be a great set for you. So upgrading from your drum brakes to your disc brakes is gonna give you several different benefits. This is going to provide better performance so these brakes are going to help to shorten your stopping distance dramatically. And it's also going to help provide smoother, more controlled braking than your drum brakes. So it's going to help keep your trailer from pushing and pulling.
These do have ceramic brake pads that are going to help increase the stopping power and there are two large stainless steel pistons that provide fast, responsive braking in addition to better performance, these are also going to require less maintenance than your drum brakes. So it's gonna help save you time and money. Having the one piece hub and rotor assembly is gonna reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear. And you can see here we do have the vented design that's gonna help dissipate your heat faster to prevent premature brake pad wear. And overall these do have a really high quality automotive grade construction, so they are gonna be very long lasting for you.
Now one caveat with disc brakes is that they are going to require a higher line pressure than your standard drum brakes. And so you are gonna need to make sure that you have a hydraulic brake actuator as well as brake lines that are rated for 1500 psi or higher. So you wanna make sure that you have the correct actuator and brake lines in order to apply the brakes. So that might be something that you have to purchase separately. We do sell those here at etrailer.com so if you don't already have them make sure that you get those as well. But this kit, while it doesn't come with the actuator or lines, it is going to give you these two cast iron hub and rotor assemblies with the eight pre-installed 9/16th inch diameter wheel bolts. You're also going to get 16 of these 9/16th inch lugnuts to keep your wheel in place. You'll get the two E-coated cast iron calipers and the caliper mounting brackets. We'll jump back to this back view again so you can see this a little bit better. You can see these do have the 4 bolt brake flange configuration, so it is gonna be very easy to get these mounted on your axle. I do wanna point out that I have these displayed on top but when you actually go to install them they are gonna be mounted on the side and that side support design is gonna help put the weight on the mounting brackets instead of on your hardware so that the hardware will hold up longer. We do have the bolts here that you can see are loosely installed. Those do have the yellow medium strength thread lock on them. So I don't have them fully installed right now, but that's gonna help keep all the components together up there. And then in addition to our main units here, we are also going to get the braces that are pre-installed already as well as inner and outer bearings, your grease seals, and your easy lube grease caps and so that you can make sure that everything is well lubricated and running smoothly inside there. So if you are looking for a upgrade for your camper or a trailer that's not gonna see much action in the water and not gonna be around a whole lot of salt, this is gonna be a great upgrade for you. Much better performance, much less maintenance. I think it you're gonna be very happy with it in the long run. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

If it wasn't for E trailer. My music will still be hunk of metal. These are a good option to replace the Dexter free float brake system. The cost or significant cheaper also these were made by Dexter and the pads you can find at a local parts store. Also the customer service excellent I can't remember the names but thank you. One year review I don't haul with it like heavy haulers but it's got about 5,000 miles on it and no problems.
