When your old drum setup struggles to keep up, these Kodiak 13" disc brakes deliver a major boost in stopping power and control. The 1-piece hub-and-rotor design keeps braking smooth and even, while vented rotors shed heat quickly to prevent fade on long hauls. Ceramic brake pads and a large cast iron piston respond fast when you hit the brakes, giving you shorter, more confident stops with your trailer.

Saltwater, slush, and coastal air can eat through ordinary brake parts fast. These assemblies come fully Dacromet-coated for superior rust protection, with a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating that holds up in tough conditions. The coating covers the hub, rotor, caliper, and mounting brackets so you can count on long-term durability whether you’re towing through snow or launching near the coast.

Unlike drum brakes with springs and magnets that wear out or need adjustment, this disc setup keeps things simple. There are fewer moving parts to service, and the caliper sits on the outside of the assembly so pads are quick to swap when they wear down. The 1-piece hub-and-rotor assembly also blocks water and debris from getting between surfaces, reducing uneven wear and saving time down the road.

This kit gives you everything needed to replace brakes on one axle—two Dacromet-coated hub-and-rotor assemblies with inner (25580) and outer (02475) bearings, races, grease seals, E-Z Lube caps, wheel bolts, lug nuts, calipers, and mounting brackets. It’s built for #42 spindles with an axle capacity of 7,000 lbs and an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern using 5/8" wheel bolts. A hydraulic actuator rated at 1,500 psi or above and brake lines (sold separately) are required to complete the system.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at this Kodiak 13 inch hub and rotor disc brake assembly set. This is going to allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes, so that you can take advantage of the superior performance that comes along with having disc brakes on your trailer. Or, if you already have disc brakes, this will be a great way to upgrade that finish on your disc brakes to make sure that they're going to last a nice long time for you. So, this set is going to include the two brake assemblies here. So, it will allow you to upgrade a single 7,000 pound capacity axle with the number 42 spindles.
Our rotors are 13 inches in diameter, and you can see we've got the eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern with these five eighth inch diameter wheel bolts. And so, this will work for your wheels that are 16 inches and larger. Our hubs and rotors as well as our calipers, and our caliper mounting brackets all have a dacromet finish. So, they are going to offer excellent rust and corrosion resistance with a 300 to 400 hour salt spray rating. So, these are going to be great for your boat trailers, or trailers that are used in coastal areas, or on heavily treated roads where they're going to have a lot of contact with salt and that sort of thing.
So, if you're looking at your good, better, best, sort of scenario, dacromet is near the top in my opinion. The only thing really higher than this is a stainless steel construction. and of course, with the higher quality you're going to have a higher price. And so, these are going to do a really good job for you and be a little bit less expensive than your stainless steel. They are going to be better than your e-coat or definitely better than having an unfinished hub and rotor assembly.
So, these are going to do a really good job, be a great upgrade if you already have disc brakes and you're wanting a better finish. And, if you are switching from having drum breaks to disc brakes, you are going to notice a vast improvement in your performance of your brakes. Disc brakes are going to help dramatically shorten your stopping distance. We've got these ceramic brake pads here that are going to provide increased stopping power. There is a two and a half inch diameter stainless steel piston that provides a fast responsive braking experience.
So, it is going to provide smoother, more controlled braking for you. It's going to help keep your trailer from pushing and pulling like you often experience with your drum breaks. And, in addition to better performance, these are also going to require less maintenance. So, it is going to help save you time and money over the long run. Having that one piece hub and rotor assembly is going to reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear, and the vented design here on the side, helps to dissipate heat faster, so it's going to help prevent premature brake pad wear. Now, your brake pads will need to be replaced eventually. They will wear down over time. But, that's a pretty straightforward process. And, you're not going to have the springs like you do with your drum brakes. So, a lot fewer components that could fail and need to be replaced. And, these are a high quality automotive grade construction, so they are going to be very long lasting. These are going to help reduce the maintenance and save you time and money over the long run. Now the one caveat with disc brakes is that they do require a higher line pressure. So, you are going to need to make sure that you've got a hydraulic brake actuator, and brake lines that are rated for 1500 psi or higher. And, that's pretty uncommon for your trailers that are set up for drum breaks. So, it might take some doing to get that all converted over. If you don't already have hydraulic brake actuator and brake lines rated for 1500 psi or higher, we do have those available here at etrailer.com. Obviously, they're not included in this kit, so this isn't going to be everything that you need, but it is going to include the two dacromet plated cast iron hub and rotor assemblies with the eight pre-installed, five eighth inch wheel bolts on each. You're also going to get 16 of these five eighth inch zinc plated steel lug nuts to hold your wheel in place. You'll get the two dacromet plated cast iron calipers, as well as the two dacromet plated ductile iron caliper mounting brackets. These do have the five bolt brake flange configuration, so they are going to be very easy to get mounted on your axle with those five bolts. Now, I do want to point out that I've got this mounted on top for balance and display purposes. When you actually go to install it, it is going to be mounted on the side. That side support design puts all the weight on the mounting bracket instead of on your bolts, so it helps your bolts last longer. The four stainless steel caliper mounting bolts are also included. You're going to get your inner and your outer races. Those are pre-installed already, so you don't have to worry about that. You'll get your inner and outer bearings, that will fit in those races. Make sure that everything's moving smoothly, rotating around like it should. This kit is lubricated with grease, so you're going to get your two grease seals for the inside, and then your two easy lube grease caps for the outside. And, these grease caps do have that rubber plug on them, that you can remove to access your easy lube spindles, pump some grease in there, in between your normal maintenance. So, keeps everything well lubricated and moving along. So, like I said, definitely going to be a huge upgrade if you're switching from drum brakes to disc brakes. And, even if you have disc brakes already, you're wanting to have a higher quality finish, this dacromet finish is going to hold up really well for you. So, that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Nothing new which is good news, although I will replace the bearings sometime this winter with Timken. This is the stock brake for Morryde IIS and it work well enough. The China bearing are what it comes with, but in an effort to not have to worrywonder, Timken is my choice. Not sure about some of the complaints but other than cardboard not holding up to heavy metal mine were new and good. I believe sometimes returns and part get put in a box a second time and that screws everyone up. Not being an upgrade, I am not sure there is another choice even if I wanted it.

I decided to go with the Kodiak set up and we couldn’t be happier with the service with them. I feel that the trailer stops around 40 better.
