Ask the Experts about this Hydrastar Accessories and Parts

  • Is There Advantage to Using Hard Brake Lines or Flexible Brake Lines on Trailer
There really isn't an advantage to using hard brake lines over flexible ones. It really comes down to whichever will be easier for you to install. I would recommend the flexible brake line kit part # 24TA-BLKIT as it will be easier to install. While they lines are flexible they do not bulge or expand from brake pressure. This brake line setup would work really well with the Hydrastar actuator # HBA16 you mentioned as well as the Kodiak disc brake conversion kit you are going with.

  • Availability of Brake Line Kit for 3 Axle Hydro-Disc Trailer
I'd be happy to help you find the right brake lines to fix up your triple axle trailer. I've included a link to our brake line kits, but if you could find the fitting types you need and let me know that would help me find a kit or put one together for your trailer's needs.

  • Converting Three 7,000 Pound Dexter Axles to Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
I can certainly help you out with a disc brake set up on your trailer. The first thing we need to find out in order to select the correct parts would be the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the sides of the bearings in the hubs you have now. With that information I can ensure that we get you the right parts. I would also need to know the bolt pattern of the wheels and what kind of braking system the trailer currently has. Also, do all 3 of the axles have brake mounting flanges?...

  • Parts Needed To Convert a 2017 K-Z Durango Gold G384RLT From Drum to Disc Brakes
I have attached for you below a list of parts that you will need to convert your 2017 K-Z Durango Gold G384RLT 5th Wheel Trailer from electric drum to hydraulic disc brakes. If my research is correct, you have two 7,000 lb Dexter Axles but if this is not the case please just let me know. Dexter Disc Brake Kit part # K71-694-695-12 (Grease) or part # K71-694-695-13 (Oil) Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator part # K71-651 HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit part #...

  • Will the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit Part # K2R1058D11E Work on Torsion Axles
I have the solution you are looking for, however the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 11" Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat Finish - Leaf Spring - 10,000-lb Dexter part # K2R1058D11E wil not work on torsion axles. There just isn't enough room for the hardware to fit between the brake flange and frame. Instead you want to use Kodiak Disc Brakes - 13" Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - Raw Finish - Torsion - 10K Dexter and Lippert part # K2R1058D13. This kit is designed specifically for use on your axle. • Disc Brake and Actuator Kit Recommendation for 2016 Grand Design Momentum 397th
Your trailer has 7k Lippert axles on it so the disc brake kit you would need is the three sets of # K2HR712D for the disc/rotor and caliper kits. This won't be super cheap but it will give you the best option for converting to disc. For an electric over hydraulic actuator kit you then would want the part # HS381-9067 which will give you everything needed except for brake lines. For that you then would want the part # HS496-253.

  • Disc Brake Recommendation for a Triple Axle Boat Trailer
Since you will putting the disc brakes on a boat trailer I recommend going with something that will be corrosion resistant. For that I recommend Kodiak disc brake kit # K2HR35DS. It is constructed using stainless steel parts and other parts have a Dacromet coating for superior corrosion resistance. This is a complete kit for 1 axle. This kit has rotors that use inner bearing L68149 and outer bearing L44649. If you have different bearing numbers this kit can still work as long as the...

  • Is Larger Diameter Brake Line Required when Switching from Drum to Disc Trailer Brakes
You would only need to switch to a larger diameter brake line if the braking response was slow. You can go to a larger line if you wanted but it won't be necessary. We have 1/4 line kits such as # HS496-251 for single axle trailers, # HS496-252 for tandem axle trailers, or # HS496-253 for triple axle trailers.

  • Hydraulic Brake Line kit with 1/4 Inch Diameter Steel Brake Line
The steel brake lines in kit # 9579-2 are 3/16. Kit # 24TR-BLKIT does have 1/8 inch inner diameter flexible line at a length of 24 feet. This will be long enough for your trailer. If you prefer the metal lines, then I recommend the HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Triple Axle - 25' Long, 3/16" Main Line # HS496-253.

  • Converting to Electric-Over-Hydraulic Disc Brakes on Trailer with Three 8,000 Pound Axles
I suggest the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR89DE. They have an E-coat finish which will help reduce corrosion from the elements. Our most popular actuator is the Hydrastar # HBA16 and it's definitely the way to go. See the attached video when we put one on a trailer and it worked great. For brake lines use # HS496-253. If you don't already have a brake controller I suggest the Prodigy P2 # 90885. And for a breakaway kit # 20099.

  • Can I Use the Dexter DX Brake Actuator To Convert Drum Brake to EOH On Triple Axle Trailer
The Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes part # K71-650 will work well to actuate your drum brakes on the triple axle trailer when you switch over to electric over hydraulic brakes. You will also need a brake line kit. The longest brake line kit we have available is HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Triple Axle - 25' Long, 3/16" Main Line part # HS496-253. I do not believe this line kit will be long enough but I do not know how far back your axle. If...

  • Converting Electric Brakes To Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brakes On Triple Axle Trailer
Yes, we have the HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Triple Axle - 15' Long, 1/4" Main Line, # HS496-153. We also have a 25 foot long kit, # HS496-253. With either kit, I recommend use with the HydraStar Vented Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi, # HBA16. This will convert the electric system over to a hydraulic system with the electric motor that pushes the plunger into the hydraulic master cylinder as you brake. I assume you have 3500 lb axles, and...

  • Recommendation on Switching Vacuum Over Hydraulic Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
Since the braking power is still hydraulic, you should have no issues converting from a vacuum over hydraulic system to an electric over hydraulic (EOH) system. The electric over hydraulic actuator will take the place of the vacuum that pressurized the existing brakes. Now, since you have disc brakes already installed on your trailer, I recommend the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi, # HBA16. The HydraStar actuator will allow you to apply the brakes...

  • Disc Brake Kit Needed for a 2015 Cyclone 4200 with Triple Dexter Axles
I reached out to my contact at Dexter Axle who gave me the spindle information for your specific axle. The compatible disc brake kit that I recommend going with is part # K2HR712D from Kodiak. My contact did mention that this axle originally came with electric brakes so you will need a brake line kit as well since it sounds like you already have an actuator. I have linked our available brake line kits. All you have to do is filter through the selection for the best fit for your trailer...

  • Trailer Disc Brakes are Slow to Respond when Connected to a 2010 Dodge Ram w/Integrated Controller
Dodge says their integrated trailer brake controller is compatible with the electric over hydraulic brake systems, but we have found their compatibility to be hit and miss at best. There are a few things that can cause slow response in the trailer brakes. First make sure everything is wired correctly and that there are no weak or bad grounds. Grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. Make sure there is no corrosion in the vehicle and trailer side connectors.Wiring...

Since the ProLube kit # XLPROLUBE2440KIT is only rated for use on 5,200 to 6,000 pound axles I do not recommend using it for 7,000 pound axles. Grease would be better for marine applications since a hub full of grease repels water and an oil bath hub could just let the water set on top. The correct grease seal for disc brake kit # K2HR712D is # RG06-070. It does have an inner diameter of 2.25 inches and the outer diameter at 3.376 inches will fit the hub in the disc brake kit. • Single Axle Brake Line Kit Needed for Triple Axle Trailer to Make a Triple Axle Disc Brake Kit
You wouldn't need a triple axle brake line kit, # HS496-253, because the Titan Disc Brake Kit # T4843800 already comes with 2/3 of what you need. So you would need a single axle kit # DM5424 or # DM5425.

  • Best Disc Brake Actuator for Triple Axle Drum Brakes
For just the actuator by itself the correct Hydrastar is the part # HS381-8066 that you referenced as it's pressure rating is correct for drum brakes and is rated for up to three brake axles. For a kit that includes the needed junction box, 7-way connector, a junction box for easy wiring and other various terminals for an easy install you'd instead want the part # HS381-9066 as all of that is included with this kit. Then for a triple axle brake line kit we have the Hydrastar kit part...
